ECCruise Posted July 17, 2017 #51 Share Posted July 17, 2017 Didn't someone on a Princess ship get hit by a glass door? They sued and got millions Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Forums mobile app Yes, but it was HAL, the award was $21.5 million The award was later thrown out since it was found that there were issues with the trial. Rare BillOh Posted July 17, 2017 #52 Share Posted July 17, 2017 (edited) One night on Celebrity I tripped getting back into bed in the dark. My own fault, I should have put the light on. I wasn't badly hurt, but went to the medical centre in the morning because my head was still bleeding. The doctor glued the cut, and had me fill out a form. The safety officer came to the cabin to take a report with pictures of where I had fallen and of the cut on my head. There was no cost for the doctor and that evening I received sparkling wine and strawberries in the cabin. I repeat, this was entirely my own fault and I was surprised at how seriously the incident was taken. The OP should have seen the doctor.Sheila Interesting post, thanks for sharing. I too neglected to see the doctor partially because I knew I wasn't hurt beyond knowing I was going to be sore the next day, my pride was hurt, and I didn't want to miss my excursion, but I'll keep this in mind in the future. I'm probably most glad my camera only had cosmetic issues. :) Edited July 17, 2017 by BillOh

RNRcruisers Posted July 17, 2017 #54 Share Posted July 17, 2017 Geez, I'm kind of appalled by some of the rude responses here. Might be different if it were you... It sounds like they treated it pretty casually since the OP had to request that they record it. I don't know how heavy those doors are but it could have been much more serious. It seems reasonable to me to ask that they be trained in making sure no bodies are in the way.

If you look at the post history of some of the people making them, you will see a pattern.

Goodtime Cruizin Posted July 17, 2017 #57 Share Posted July 17, 2017 You should do two things... 1. Lawyer up. It serves a financial notice to the Board of Directors. 2. Buy a scooter.
Rare S.A.M.J.R. Posted July 17, 2017 #58 Share Posted July 17, 2017 It sounds like they treated it pretty casually since the OP had to request that they record it. I wonder if a report would have been filed automatically if the OP had gone to medical? My DD cut her head in the pool, ended up in medical for stitches and a safety officer came down to get a report from us. I had to take him back to the pool deck and show him where the incident happened so they could look at the cameras.

This should have been dealt with on board the ship so the OP could show a security officer and the WJ Manager exactly what happened. He should have also visited medical or ask that they come to his cabin, especially since he has a very serious medical condition. He can still email corporate and they can contact the ship, but whatever procedure that isn't being followed is most likely still happening and others might be at risk. iuki Posted July 17, 2017 #60 Share Posted July 17, 2017 Understood, just bringing it up. FWIW, I got a stack of loungers knocked over on me by a crew member moving a larger stack than he could handle. He apologized, I helped him put them back on the cart and we moved on. Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Forums mobile app Hi John - Knowing you, you were making a joke about people always suing, and I could see those devilish eyes twinkling and your devilish grin. Helping that crew member with those loungers is more like you. 🙂 However, I feel for that elderly man. In the future, anyone should go to the medical facility where a record of the incident should be made. Sometimes injuries become worse at a later time, requiring additional medical attention that one's insurance may not cover. Keep cruising my friend. Mac303 Posted July 18, 2017 #61 Share Posted July 18, 2017 The doors in question are also watertight doors, I would imagine they are quite heavy, the OP just wanted advice on how this could be prevented in the future. If he contacts corporate maybe they will send a message to all ships in the fleet about this incident along with a training bulletin so this will never happen again. People should always report incidents. Sometimes it our fault, but often there was an issue that caused the accident. Rare grozzy1 Posted July 18, 2017 #63 Share Posted July 18, 2017 It doesn't matter who's fault it is, or whether you want a fuss, all incidents no matter how small should be reported. If the ship has a decent safety officer they will take steps to prevent or minimise the risk of it happening again. If a more serious incident happens and there is a record of safety being ignored the cruise line could be in serious trouble. Also it may not seem serious at the time but if complications occur later you have something to go back to. LilBlackDress Posted July 18, 2017 #64 Share Posted July 18, 2017 When I was accidentally injured by a crew member on Adventure, they insisted I was seen by a doctor. It happened on our final morning in the MDR just before we were disembarking. They would not let me leave the ship until I was cleared by medical... When I was cleared, at about 1:30, We were escorted off the ship by several crew members.

If water is up that high the ship is already on its way down and the only thing stopping it is hitting the bottom.

toxicfairy Posted July 18, 2017 #68 Share Posted July 18, 2017 Did you even read the original post? The question was "What should I do about this so it doesn't happen to someone else?" People are responding by basically saying it was an accident, and that accidents happen. First even if it was a car accident you go to the doctor you can't say no i don't want to go get checked out. Hours later say I'm fine just shook up. Days later say nope I'm not ok and expect something to be done. Second he's only asking what to do to prevent it from happening to others. The answer is Nothing. It was an accident and accidents happen. A lady in work picked up a chair in our classroom turned fast with out looking , slammed the bleeping chair into my hip and leg. Yes I had a huge bruise, yes i was doubled over& yes i was pissed off. But it was an accident and I can't prevent her from doing something with out thinking it threw again. I can only hope next time she looks around first! Sent from my SM-J700T1 using Forums mobile app

They do close rapidly though, as one would expect from a fire door.
JasonTehGreat Posted July 18, 2017 #70 Share Posted July 18, 2017 If you have travel insurance this type of injury would be covered IF they charged you which I do not think they would. I think the crew member miscalculated your clearance of the door and closed it too soon. I am sorry you had this experience and hopefully that crew member will take better care in the future to make sure it is not repeated.
