az-cruiser Posted July 18, 2017 #1 Share Posted July 18, 2017 Okay, i have cruised with NCL many times. I always have a few drinks, even without the UBP. Heres my question, it doesnt seem to matter how many drinks I have, I can never get a buzz. Then I see drunk people all over the boat and I have to wonder, what the heck i'm doing wrong? On land, its 2 drinks and i'm feeling good! Onboard, I usually order things like a non frozen margarita, vodka and tonic, BBC...and always ask for a shot with each drink, which I taste and pour in just to make sure its alcohol..which it sure tastes like it is! Please help me, just for once, I want to be one of those drunk people on the ship! lol!
Rare BostonGal35 Posted July 18, 2017 #2 Share Posted July 18, 2017 find a fave bartender, and get to knwo them an slip them some cash early on. you'll always get a nice strong pour. we also avoid any drinks with mixers - mostly for calories, but often teh are all mixer and no booze. it takes me 5 or 6 to get drunk but im a booozebag. PaulInPGH Posted July 18, 2017 #6 Share Posted July 18, 2017 This thread cracked me up. But I've definitely noticed what you're talking about. I do think the comment suggesting you eat less is probably the most apt. Every cruise it's the same: I always get the most buzzed the first afternoon, before I've had time to consume my own body weight in tasty treats. I do think, too, that if you really want a good buzz, have a few drinks in rapid succession. I find that I tend to have a good number of drinks during a day on a cruise, but they're often spread out over a number of hours. I'm rarely just sitting and knocking back 3 or 4 drinks in an hour, which is something you might do at a bar or party back home.
Boatingmom Posted July 18, 2017 #7 Share Posted July 18, 2017 I think it's because of all the food one eats on a cruise. Doesn't even make it to the bloodstream. Lol[emoji23] Sent from my iPhone using Forums
adam_s_allen Posted July 18, 2017 #8 Share Posted July 18, 2017 Yeah, instead of eating a burger or hot dog for lunch, just drink your calories.
luv2gonow Posted July 18, 2017 #9 Share Posted July 18, 2017 Fun thread. Yea find a good bartender 1st thing. Let em know you like em strong! I like Baybreezes. I order absolute on rocks with a splash of pineapple and cranberry. They figure out quick you like it strong. I don't have a big breakfast so a couple of cocktails before lunch should do the trick:-) Happy cruising Kerri
smileygirl_68 Posted July 18, 2017 #10 Share Posted July 18, 2017 Drink wine and prosecco too, that stirs things up nicely. I've never had a problem being 'one of those drunk people'....
khaide612 Posted July 18, 2017 #11 Share Posted July 18, 2017 My last cruise I had UBP and the first day/night participated in a bar crawl and then drinks everywhere I went. Then I encountered a group who were doing shots of Fireball and did a bunch of those. No idea how I didn't die! But nope I was not drunk and had no hangover. I think it's the sea air combined with activity because if I have 4 vodka sodas on land I want to die the next day.
gamecockmom Posted July 18, 2017 #12 Share Posted July 18, 2017 Find Rudy (he used to be on the Sky) and ask for his speciality - the Tokyo Drift. Hubby doesn't remember coming back to the cabin that night. Also The Chocolate Cowboy on the Escape can hook you up !!!! clskinsfan Posted July 18, 2017 #13 Share Posted July 18, 2017 Drink faster. And drink beer or wine. The bartenders cannot pour those weak :)
bam1957 Posted July 18, 2017 #14 Share Posted July 18, 2017 Loving this thread. I also can't get drunk on the cruise and believe me I'm consuming quite a bit of everything you can think of. My husband gets a nice buzz but not me.
jinteso Posted July 18, 2017 #15 Share Posted July 18, 2017 Drink a couple of shots of Canadian Whiskey or Bourbon in a row. That works for me!
Eleteace Posted July 18, 2017 #16 Share Posted July 18, 2017 I've never had a problem! I ordered a rum and Coke on my last NCL cruise and it was 90% rum 10% coke. Blehh!! Haha Sent from my iPhone using Forums

zqvol Posted July 18, 2017 #19 Share Posted July 18, 2017 Never heard anyone complain that they can drink but not get drunk. Seems to me the best of both worlds, especially with the UBP.
Caribbean Drifters Posted July 18, 2017 #20 Share Posted July 18, 2017 I generally have the same problem, but with the UBP and bar top video poke hopefully on the Bliss, I doubt i'll have much of a problem this time around.
dna529 Posted July 18, 2017 #21 Share Posted July 18, 2017 I have the same problem, but I noticed if I drink two long islands right away I can get a buzz! I think all the fruity drinks are good, but useless for getting drunk. Sent from my SM-G900V using Forums mobile app
Hollr Posted July 18, 2017 #22 Share Posted July 18, 2017 Dirty Martinis did the trick for me. That and some wine. Those Long Island Iced teas got my hubby pretty good too. :)

hawk/hornfan Posted July 19, 2017 #25 Share Posted July 19, 2017 I start in the morning with Bloody Mary's and Irish coffee, beer or fruity drinks during the day on sea days, then at night Martini's or Vodka Gimlets. I sleep good at night.
