question about getting drunk onboard

If you figure out the solution to your problem, just make certain you behave. Recent post on RCCL thread had 2 people put off the ship with their luggage for out of control drunk behavior.

I have the opposite issue 2 of anything is to much for me thus resort to water for next few hours.

I agree with skipping any premixed/slushy-type drinks, but it sounds like you are already doing that, so I think you're going to have to eat less and drink faster.

For me, once I lose my buzz I'm done. If I don't drink fast enough to get/keep a buzz, then I have to give up for the day and take a nap, then try again in the evening. Or give up for the night, go to bed, and try again in the morning.

Also, make sure you are drinking before your meals. You'll want to grab a drink at one of the bars so that you can get one in on a totally empty stomach. Then order a second drink as soon as you sit down and a third when your meal arrives.

I noticed the same thing on my last Getaway cruise but since I had the UBP I was drinking mixed drinks instead of beer. The one time I did feel it was when I had a few drinks before dinner, so it could also be a food thing. Not complaining though, I was pleasantly buzzed a few evening.

I really think it depends on the day and your own body. Some days, one glass of wine and I am really buzzed. Other days, like at a family BBQ or something, I can have 5 margaritas over the course of an afternoon and I'm fine.( never driving, DH doesn't really drink by choice, so I always have a designated driver on hand)

I would definitely stay away from the Pina Colada, Daiquiri, sweet type drinks. Not much alcohol and lots of sugar. If you're looking to really get your money's worth, stick to Martini's, Long Island IT's or shots. Also just sipping tequila or scotch, neat.

Funny story, one Carnival cruise, DH and I were lounging out by the pool, it was very warm out. To my surprise, he ordered a Pina Colada, now he will only drink like a 1/4 of it and give the rest to me. He just doesn't like booze, well he drank the whole thing, I asked him how he felt and he said he could have given it to our then 10 YO daughter, because there wasn't anything in it. :o

Stay away from the mixed frozen drinks.

Tell the bartender easy on the ice. Drinks get loaded with ice and as little alcohol as they can muster. Watch them - they are trained to fill those glasses with ice cubes -

We stick to pure drinks. Clean Martinis - avoid the sugary frozen pre mixed garbage.

Oh there is a drink in the sunset bar - I forget what it is called. It is served in a flute - I want to say there is star anise in it? Its a good one - It comes with a free shot of "I am the best karaoke star ever"

And if the wine fails, the Martinis fail and the Star Anise doesn't hit the spot

There is always Tequila shots and Fireball shots.

I'd love to see some Craft Gins on board. Not sure if Craft Gins are hitting the USA in the same trend as they are in the UK right now? Love all the flavoured Gins we have here right now - super diet friendly!!

Tito's and pineapple juice. Unlike a Screwdriver you can still taste flavor of the juice, so if you got a weak pour it's easy to down, and even with a heavy pour it still tastes good. 4 or 5 of those on the pool deck and I'm ready to join the belly flop contest!

I've never had a problem! I ordered a rum and Coke on my last NCL cruise and it was 90% rum 10% coke. Blehh!! Haha

Yep...I have this happen to me, too. But of course I sacrificed and finished it.

Another option to help you along (even though they cost) is attend martini tastings if they are offered. Nothing like six or so small drinks of basically pure alcohol to get you going in the right direction.

I do think a lot has to do with the amount of food you consume. I've found all of my mixed drinks to be pretty alcohol-heavy (we do tip $1 or so a drink).

i cant get drunk on wine. i, too, fall asleep pretty quickly. that's why i save my prosecco drinking for after the late theater show when im at the casino. Ive never been drunk on beer. i get full too fast from all the wheat and grain expanding in my gut.

Sorry, but, with drinking you have no clear perception of how "drunk" you are. And usually self reports are greatly skewed. Of course alcohol has multiple effects on people, but blood alcohol is a fixed indication.

Hope this question is more of a joke than a goal.

Reducing the amount of ice in a glass does not change how much alcohol goes in the glass. The amount of alcohol remains constant. You will only receive more mixer. You can however ask for a double.

This thread cracks me up! So glad it hasn't attracted all of the negative nellies and finger shakers.

I've experienced the same thing but I think it's more of finding the happy middle. Drink enough to keep a good buzz all day without ending up face down by dinner time! [emoji6]

I'm surprised no one mentioned this. I think I've been on about 8 NCL cruises. The standard pour by most bartenders for liquor drinks is 1 o.z. versus in "most" places they do about 1.5oz. Remember an "airplane" bottle are usually 50ML, which is 1.69 o.z. Plenty will give you a double if you ask. But usually # wise, I just drink more drinks on vacation, than at home.

While at home, I may not drink at all some nights, others I will have one or two drinks.

Going out to a restaurant, DW and I will usually just drink one glass of wine each.

On cruises, we do drink more, of course we are in social setting meeting new people or cruising with family and or friends.

DW and I will usually consume 3-4 drinks a day, most wine.

I have seen posts here on cc (in fact many) of people that start drinking at breakfast and drink all day. One guy said he drank a case of beer a day. Even at Frat parties in college, I never did that.

I do remember one evening that I decided to go with vodka martinis (the big ones) before dinner. I had two and after wine with dinner, I was done. DW and I just went back to the cabin.

The beverage packages are probably encouraging more consumption.
