Disappointed with RCL/Allure.

Recommended Posts

I am sending this post with trepidation as I wonder what kind of responses I too will get.

A cruiser is taking exception to his and his family's experiences on the Allure. And the replies from fellow cruiser are to attack this gentlemen. I've always thought of Cruise Critic as a place where cruisers could share the good, the bad and the ugly about their cruising experiences without being attacked. Isn't that what community is? A safe place to exchange ideas, and experiences.

And as for the Allure... my family just came off cruising on the Allure. I am a long time and frequent cruiser with RCCL among other lines. We found the food in the dining room well below acceptable and ended up eating in the specialty restaurants where, the food was excellent. Why then did I pay for dinners on the cruise and pay again to get a decent meal?

Since my last RCCL cruise the cut backs are very obvious. While cruising is a wonderful way to vacation, I personally would prefer to pay more and have better service, entertainment and especially food. And to the gentlemen who started this thread, th ask you for voicing your experiences and for your second reply which was respectful.

Happy cruising everyone.

Depends on the details and how the post comes across. Pure rant threads are rarely well received - perhaps rightly so.

I agree however my issue with this post was that is was day 1 doom and gloom over really trivial things. Give it a chance. For me, had the OP included this as a part of a review of the entire cruise it would have been better received.

Thank you for not attacking me as well. Personally, I think that everyone is entitled to express their feelings and views on their cruising experiences. And the OP clearly apologized for an early rant. I know that at times I've been frustrated about something that may at first glance seem small, but was disappointing to me, and I looked for a safe place to vent.

If Cruise Critic really is about a community of people who enjoy the cruising experience and see CC as a place to share that experience, then doesn't that need to include all types of experiences? And what may be inconsequential to one person may be important to another. Good for OP for wanting Grandma to be in the suite with his child while he is out for the evening.

And one final comment, for the cruise I just finished on the Allure, we had two staterooms for five of us. Grandma, parents and the kids. The room assignments were all wrong! One of the kids was in the room with mom, and dad was assigned the room with the other kid and Grandma. And believe it or not, I was told by RCCL that while technically we were suppose to sleep in the room assignment on the manifest. However, if we changed rooms around that was ok. Instead, after boarding I immediately went to Guest Services where I stood on line for over half an hour and got our Seapass corrected. So, based on what I was told, this gentlemen's mother could have spent the night in his suite without anyone being concerned.

Happy Cruising All

Sorry you are experiencing problems on your cruise. It is so funny how each line differs in food, service, etc.. Me personally, loved Royal and can't stand NCL but that is how things are different for different people! I hope the rest of your cruise is enjoyable![emoji16]

Having been around for a few years, I can say that most people will go to impressive lengths to find fault with a person who posts anything negative about 'their' cruise line. It's like insulting a sports team on their home turf. Yes, people will make excuses for flaming OPs ("too many complaints, it was a rant, doom and gloom") but honestly only the most egregious (and very carefully worded) onboard problem will receive anything but pushback from people here.

No I don't know why people are so irrational in their defense of billion-dollar companies, but it's mind-boggling.

I read the first page of this thread earlier and this was EXACTLY my thought. Have not read the rest of the thread. My guess is a whole lot of people totally bashing the OP. That was the direction things were going on the first page anyway.

All part of the game, I suppose. A person simply cannot come on a brand-specific forum and utter any negativity without being pummeled by the masses. It's like that here. It's like that in other brand-specific forums. (..;)..)

Bottom line, the OP didn't have *his* ideal start to his cruise. Doesn't matter why, really. His feelings are absolutely valid regardless of my opinion or anyone else's. He's entitled to his own feelings. His feelings & opinions aren't required to be my feelings & opinions. If people don't like what he said, how hard is it to just move on?

I think many were PO'd this was his first cruise on Royal and was comped a JS and they can't even get an free upgrade. Many are jealous of others. Wanting to know their play and so forth.

Many times the OP rant is by a newbie or a cruiser coming over from another line. Many times the responses to the rant are from experienced cruisers who point out things that are the norm, not necessarily to defend the line. And of course subjective issues like food are just bound to cause disagreements.

Biker, who saw no pummeling in this thread.

His initial post was confusing and people were trying to figure out what he was saying. Not sure who you feel is jealous of his comped JS, I only see people asking for details since he is a first time RCI cruiser, people wanted to see if there was a casino program they weren't aware of so they could see if they qualify. There are many people who post here, like yourself, who cruise often because of casino offers, knowing their play helps people understand if it is something they also qualify for.

As far as his complaints and comparisons to NCL, he didn't even give it 24 hours, you have to give it a chance. Day 1 is always nuts and doesn't always foretell how the rest of the cruise will be.

Has it been confirmed that the Op was comped a suite via the MLIFE casino program since the OP was not comped via RCL casino as this was the first cruise.

Not sure MLIFE. He came back and said Ceasars comped him 5 cruise on NCL and he used 4. He now plays a local Casino Foxwood and they comped him a JS on Allure.

I completely agree with this. Often on the first evening I am overtired and a bit cranky from traveling and have on several cruises decided on the first night that this will be the last cruise. By the next morning after a good night sleep it is all good again and I know why I love being on a ship.

I never mind a balanced review. If there were negative things the person didn't like about the cruise I feel its fine to mention them, but if there were ONLY negative things mentioned and not one single thing GOOD happened then I take that review with a grain of salt. And if they are complaining about things on the FIRST DAY I feel they haven't really given the cruise and cruiseline a fair chance.

Weespeed, I hope the rest of your cruise is going better than day 1. I have noticed that on boarding day the staff can be a bit stressed but they shouldn't take it out on the customers. Regarding the food I think it is subjective, I liked NCL but preferred RCCL, that wouldn't stop me going on another BACK cruise if it came up at the right price.

Good luck in the casino and enjoy yourselves

I just got back from the casino. It was not kind to me tonight.

I understand my first post may have upset some that love RCL.

I was just venting. Maybe my situation is different than others. I just expected something that I didn't get.

Some posters say I should give it more than a day, but my experience never took a day on a different cruise line, maybe the bar was set too high in my mind.

I could get in I specifics but is it necessary? It is what it is.

I didn't post this to make anyone upset. Heck I signed up here long ago when I was given my first cruise to research. My first post was towards another member who like me was gifted cruises and wanted to know how it compared.

I could go on. Im a little tipsy, heck the casino finally called a host to to greet me when they saw me play. Gave some special sticker on my card that says VIP.. took two days. Other cruise lines greeted me when I boarded. It s the little things. Maybe I'm coming from a different situation as others, and that's why I feel the way I did.

My situation may not be the same as others and maybe that's my mistake.

Reading all these replies, I realize I should have just not posted.

Thanks for your review and continued posting. Enjoying.

As a member of Club Royale VIP, generally they tell us too seek out the Casino Host on the first night to meet the Host and get our stickers. Generally they will be at a desk the first day. Sometimes there may be a line with people arguing with the host that they should be a VIP and have a sticker. The Host has a list of cruisers on that ship with photo that are the VIP's onboard.

Upon completion of your cruise, I would call Club Royale for further possible benefits

Just wondering, has anyone grown his wealth by gambling in a casino, just like legendary investors Warren Buffett and Robert Kiyosaki have grown their wealth in the stock market and real estate?

Yes, but its a very select group, unlike the stock market where any fool can make money.

Are you kidding me? Do professional gamblers actually grow their wealth or contribute to the Cruise lines profit?

To the OP:

If you have a decent ADT, the JS's will continue to be comped, also you will get a hefty discount on anything above a JS, $1000 free cruise voucher at the end of your cruise (Last night by the casino host) etc...As other have said, best to see the HOST when you first arrive at the casino to get the VIP sticker, which is nothing more than free drinks while in the casino and waived fee for hauling cash off your seapass!

Interesting that they have baccarat on the Allure, but I'm sure you know they THEO generated on that game is very low, so much larger bets are required to be comped as the it one of the best odds of casino games!

Enjoy the rest of your cruise and most importantly GL!

Cheers!
