Deck Chairs

We've gone on several cruises on various lines. Each day when we went out on deck at 9:00 am or so , after breakfast, all the deck chairs were taken and stayed taken all day. Getting any comfortable sunning seems pretty difficult. Any suggestions, other than go out and mark a chair t 0730?

Welcome to Cruise Critic.

You may also want to post this on the cruise line forum. I know that on Royal Caribbean, some have had luck getting a pool attendant to remove items from a lounger if it's been unattended for more than 30 minutes.

You mean every chair had a body in it? I find that very difficult to believe. Have been on many cruises on several different cruiselines and have always been able to find somewhere to sit - maybe not right next to the pool, but always find a chair. Oh, and I'm rarely there before 10 or 11 a.m.

thats an exaggeration. there are ALWAYS lots of deck lounges available in full sun. they just won't be right next to the pool. the jogging trail deck inevitably has dozens of empty( and not 'spoken for') loungers all day long in good weather.

Ā

marking chairs is against policy and while some ships are better than others at policing this, all it would take is for any passenger to request a crew member to take your stuff away once a certain amount of time has passed( most agree that 20-30 minutes is sufficient)

I have no issue with someone grabbing a deck chair before breakfast, and occupying it right after breakfast. But hours later, NO.

Ā

And around lunch time, going to lunch and keeping their chair.

Ā

But REASONABLE amounts of time.

We've always been able to find loungers...not right beside the pool, but for sunning, you don't need to be in that sardine can! Go up a deck or two....more loungers there, and it's less crowded! If you still can't find a vacant chair, simply ask the folks sitting near towel-covered "hogged" chairs if anyone is sitting there. The neighbors know....and if they say they haven't seen anyone all day, take the towels to the pool attendant, and have a seat!
