We are sailing on RCI for our first cruise on Sunday with our 13 month old. We are wondering if we purchased the 2 device wifi package if we would be able to use our wi-fi camera baby monitor (model iBaby M6).

Thank you in advance!

Your device must be able to log in to the WiFi by entering a username and password.

I was also thinking about the need for such a device on a cruise.

The 13 month old child will surely be in the presence of an adult at all times.

But, maybe the parents are concerned about the child awakening and crawling about the cabin while they are sleeping.

Or, perhaps, a nanny will be accompanying the family and will be sharing a cabin with the child while the parents are in another cabin.

It is amazing how much equipment goes along with infants and toddlers theses days !

This has been my observation as a Nana to two grandchildren.:halo::halo:

So this thread begs another question. Should a 13 month old ever be left in a cruise cabin by themself?

Sure. Why not?

We travel with extended family in more than one cabin. Kids ge put down for a nap or the night and one person monitors the monitors from another cabin.

seriously? You leave a 13 month old baby in a cabin by themselves and "someone" monitors the baby via a baby monitor from elsewhere on the ship????

Even in our own house the dang monitor sometimes didn't work properly, and our kid's room is literally 5 feet away, and at times we were able to hear him "live" while the monitor was silent.

No, but the OP may be in a suite, or have family in an adjoining cabin.

it doesn't make sense to buy a wifi package if the baby is in the same suite with you or you are visiting family in the adjoining room. Just leave the door open. Free!

We could hear our neighbor's kid crying on our last cruise. It was annoying as heck, because he cried for an hour straight every damn evening - after we went to bed.

Seriously.

We're talking adjacent/adjoining cabins once the kid is sleeping. And monitors that provide low light visuals as well as sound. This devices do function through ship walls. It's really no differant than doing things in the living area of your home while the kid sleeps in his bedroom upstairs.

Not sure what you are insinuating by tossing "someone" and "elsewhere on the ship" into this discussion.

Be realistic. What do people do at home? Do they sit in the same dark room as a sleeping kid? Or do they engage in other activities in the home and monitor the kid with an electronic device or look in on her/him from time to time until the parent goes to bed?

insinuating? really? what a big strong word to use in response to me saying "someone elsewhere on the ship" is monitoring the kid.

you said:

one person monitors the monitors from another cabin.
so, it's is SOMEONE who is not in the same room with the kid, so obviously he or she is elsewhere on the ship.

A realist. Whoopee!

Or, one of us grandparents or one of the parents stay in our cabin while the kid sleeps in the quiet, dark, adjacent cabin. In our experience that's closer than the kid would be at home.

We're talking next door, not hanging on the pool deck or disco.

Why did you make this thread about you? OP never clarified where they would be.

Not sure whey these things get personal. So lets understand that there are plenty of wireless baby monitors that do not use WiFi,,,,,,but simply work with their own radio signal..usually good for about 100 feet (probably somewhat less on a ship). These should work fine if folks have connecting cabins and want to watch children next door. When folks are talking about WiFi enabled monitors that usually indicates that they want to be able to watch their kids from a distance. WiFi on ships is not very dependable..so relying on this technology (if it will even work on a particular ship) is very risky.

Lets also clarify that there is a big difference between monitoring a child within your own home (when you can often hear them without a monitor) and on a large cruise ship where numerous folks have access to any cabin (we are talking about many on the crew). And a screaming child, in a cabin, may well not be heard by anyone since ships usually have pretty decent soundproofing.

On cruise lines that offer baby sitting service (provided by a member of the crew (for a price))...the baby sitter stays in the cabin with the child at all times. Leaving a small child alone in a dark cabin at night is not something everyone would find appropriate child care. If there is some kind of major emergency it might not even be possible to return to your cabin from other parts of the ship. When the well publicized Madeleine McCann case happened, many folks had second thoughts about ever leaving a young child alone in a hotel (or cruise ship).
