Do You Re-Use Lanyards From Previous Cruises or Buy New Onboard?

This is the kind of lanyard we use. It works great for us. You don't have a card hanging in the way. We just hook on a belt loop or waist band, my daughter even hung hers from her neck collar in a pinch. just pull the cord to open your door or scan your card. Very easy.

Not quite a lanyard but very effective, could possibly hang them off a button hole as well.

Per Google & Urban Dictionary:

Thread crapping occurs when a person comes into a thread and posts something contrary to the spirit/intent of the thread, often derailing the discussion or turning it into an argument.

For example: Coming into a thread titled "I love my new Apple Mac", and posting "PCs are better and cheaper".

So, basically posting an opposing opinion, thereby disrupting the thread’s own echo-chamber of self reassurance.

I suppose it could be handy when using the pool and you have no pockets?

A silly reason, perhaps....some people get off on showing their "status".....on some lines those in suites or in the highest loyalty levels have a distinctive seapass.....most people could care less, but there are always a few 'status-concious"....:D

Interesting thread. I use a lanyard. Have many cheap ones given at the Casino when you have your cruise card punched.

Wife does not use one. Personal preference. I do. That way I never forget it in a slot machine.

Never bought one and never will. No big deal for either one of us.

Many more things to consider on a cruise. Where to eat comes to mind. Show or not? Maybe art auction (if free drink offered). On Princess cruises needing a card to turn on stateroom lights? Card from last cruise just stays in the switch and we always turn lights off when not in use.

Wear it around the neck? Nah. Don't like to bend down to open the cabin door and color of the card is not important to us as we don't need to "flash" it around.

But, that's just us.

I just hang my card from my nose ring. No lanyard needed. Unless I am wearing my track suit. Then I tie it to the waistband string.

LOL! Quote of the day.

I'm like some of the previous posters:

1) Trade show freebee lanyards (Falken Tire!)

2) Only during the day when I'm wearing stuff that doesn't have any pockets. In the evening I will slip them in my pants pocket or breast pocket of my shirt (if it has one).

I wear a lanyard all the time at work. On my first cruise I just slapped my cruise card into my hard plastic id holder from work and kept rolling. They gifted us all lanyards with that cruise line's emblem because it was the Quantum of the Seas TA when it first rolled out of the yard so I used that.

Kept using that setup for my next cruise. The third cruise someone in our roll call gave me a beaded lanyard that looks like a necklace that I continued wearing for my work lanyard when I got home.

Sadly it eventually wore out and for our fourth cruise I just stuffed the card in a pocket except on our beach days. On beach days my spouse always wears a lanyard with waterproof case containing our few valuables so that we never have to leave anything vital unattended on the beach. He got it in a bag of swag some salesman at work gave out at the holidays a few years ago.

I almost didn't take the hard plastic holder for my first cruise because everyone on cruise critic assured me guest services would punch a hole in our cards. We tried asking but due to that being one of the first ships with RFID cards they said they could not punch a hole or it would make the cards not work for opening our doors or getting drinks. I have since read the issue was they didn't know where to punch them and not damage the workings. Reports are someone has since helpfully xray'd their card after their cruise and published on CC where it is ok to punch your hole.

Our next cruise is the new MSC Seaside which also has RFID tags and I hope someone posts where we can punch holes. I've got a carabiner I could hook to a belt loop and secure the card that way.
