Any hints to effective gambling on cruise ships?

Recommended Posts

"Don't Pass/Don't Come". On land or sea, generally as close as playing by "with the house," as you can get.

the odds bet on either the pass or dont pass line bet has no house advantage, those bets pay off at true odds and are without a doubt the consistently best bets in the casino, however you still need to absorbe the original pass/dont pass bet house advantage, (1.41/1.35 respectivly)the higher the odds you bet the lower overall house advantage you are bucking.

at 2x odds the ships table offers the house edge on a $5 passline and $10 odds bet is 0.00606%

of course a bad few rolls with high odds backing you up can wipe out your bankroll pretty quick, And odds bets generally do not count towards your play rating for comps or casino royal since there is essentially zero expected return for the casino.

I find i always win because i don't go in to the casino because i don't gamble.

you can never win by not playing, you can only not lose.

Luckily we do not have craps in my states casinos-

I can walk by row after row of slot machines and have no desire to play, get me next to a craps table and i'll be buying in in no time, Luckily i know the odds and can minimize my exposure by not playing the sucker bets.

But Graham, just think of all the fun you are missing. And if you play enough, you can get some of those FREE drinks using the better alcohol and beer/wine. You might even get a bottle of wine sent to your room compliments of the Casino Host.

I never lose either.

On average i drink 1 glass of wine per week at home.

On the ship 4 glasses a day.

I'm hardly a big drinker so the inference of making a big deal over free drinks is hardly appropriate.

Besides not losing money i don't have to breath in all that cigarette smoke.

Yes. The Casino is just good entertainment for me. I just enjoy some nights over others.

At a land based casino, Craps is the best way to get free drinks without much risk. We can play for a couple hours and either win a few bucks or not lose very much. Usually the drinks far outweigh the costs of any losses. The Craps machine is a blast with a few friends.

Cramps is almost always better with a group of friends and fun players.

The smoking in the Casino is a terrible aspect. Often I will pickup and leave when it gets too bad. Royal believes at this time that it would decrease revenue for the Casino about 30%. Hopefully, we will see decreases in smoking as time moves forward.

I do like to gamble but I have heard that the payout on ships is the worst in the industry. I also know that cruise ships tend to have some loss leaders to get people into the casino and other places to buy things... any suggestions? :) Thanks!

Yes first night buy $20 get $30 chips. Another night buy $50 and get $75 chips. Imagine in Asia have to give incentive in the casino. I use to be a regular on the casino ship at least once a month because of the Comps. I play perfect BJ according to the book.

Also the dealer is allowed to hit a soft 17 which further lowers ones odds of winning.

Not allowed, REQUIRED.

But that is the case with Vegas and Atlantic City.

I haven't seen a blackjack game in the US where the dealer had to stand on a soft 17.

The 6 to 5 payout on blackjack is really anti player.

Also no surrender. I don't remember if you can resplit aces.

But all that said, I maid $200 on the last cruise. :)

I would never split 8's unless dealer has 7 or less

ALWAYS split 8s.

Otherwise you have a hand of 16. If you stand, you will probably lose. If you hit, you will probably bust, and lose.

In Vegas, you can get a card with all the mathematically proper play for any hand against any dealer up card. That play was developed with over 4 BILLION hands simulated on computers.

No, you at best break even.

I play for fun. I figure, a day at Disney is $100 for the entrance. So I limit myself to $100 per day max loss.

In 9 trips to Vegas and 2 cruises, I have come out ahead 9 times. From $100 - $900. I have lost about a $100 total twice. And once we (wife and combined) lost about $400. So overall, ahead.

Not bad for a lot of fun, meeting one interesting people, and getting free drinks. :D

This is why, while playing smartly, the house odds for craps are very low, I hate playing. Everything is rosy, then one roll, and all the money you have on the table is GONE. :D

Blackjack has similar odds, but I lose in smaller chunks :D

I play slots and enjoy it. I’ve won $3800 at 9:30 a.m. day 2 and $10,000 Last night at midnight -

And I’ve lost a whole lot in between - LOL!!

I don’t believe in rhymes or reasons to dates and times on winning, I do however feel payoffs come better on the more simple machines ( non bonus, straight lines etc.)

Go with the mindset that your paying for entertainment or renting a machine... have fun, and no your limits!

No magical get rich jackpots at any casino; Land or Sea!

Also-

Any machine with a recognizable character or theme-

Wheel of fortune

Simpsons

I love lucy

etc.

will have a lower payout percentage- they have to pay a licensing fee for the theme and you can bet thats not coming out of the house cut.

Oh so true Milwaukee! Last month on Freedom the cruise host and the dealers loved us.

The dealers gave us two bottles of wine, on two separate nights in the casino. We took the wine to the specialty restaurants and enjoyed them with our friends.

The casino host sent us two fruit bowls, a bottle of Grey Goose, a bottle of very nice rum, another bottle of wine and a bottle of champagne to our room. We gave this bottle of wine away, we do not like pink wine! We took the champagne to the pool deck and annoyed a wonderful afternoon at the pool! (We traded out glasses for plastic champagne glasses as well.

We also won (aka Pre-paid) two cruise certificates. All of this was done after my husband and I won $8k and $7k each on craps the first night of the cruise, my husband wound another $8k on roulette the third night. Of course this was all free money and we were having a blast, so we continued gambling and ended up giving it all back by the end of the cruise, plus a little. But hey, we got a lot of free booze, and two free cruises!

(We never ate the fruit baskets as the fruit in the WJ is already cut up and ready to eat lol!!)

Lol. Gosh, nobody wants to play with me!?! I can't figure out why, except I seem to be cheering when they are losing.

Ha!

I'm a quiet individual so I just sit there and slyly place my bet out. I don't roll, and I don't celebrate.

But I do double on a 4 or 10.

I've seen a few others play the don't pass, but mostly even the "regular" players are just happy to have more people at the table.

In the past, again I have no proof to back this up the slot machines my wife and I play 25 cents to 1 dollar seem to pay out heavier the first 2-3 days. We were up at one point 250 bucks. The last couple days played the same machines and didn’t pay out a dime. Again no scientific backing but just experience
