CiaCut Posted January 30, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 30, 2018 I know obc is talked about ALL THE TIME...sorry I am just wondering what are some of the ways to use up obc. We have the ubp, udp, and gratuity paid. Can special things (like the choco strawberries) be booked on board? Just trying to get some creative ideas for spending this credit that people don’t normally think of. Thanks! Rare shof515 Posted January 30, 2018 #3 Share Posted January 30, 2018 you can use it bake shop if the ship has it, you can use it for atrium treats (like the choco strawberries). you can use it at arcade to play some games. you can use it to purchase a photo
Rare rjm11 Posted January 30, 2018 #4 Share Posted January 30, 2018 the spa will eat up a bunch really fast! You can also buy Cruise Next certificates- the cost is $250 each, but they add another $100 OBC, so the cost is actually $150.... you can buy up to 4 I think, and then use them for booking cruises anytime in the next 4 years. I think you can use more than one for a booking, but don't know if it's more than 2. You can also use OBC for "extra" gratuities that you might normally pay cash for- like extra for your room steward or a butler/concierge. Just go to the Guest Services desk and tell them who you want to give money to- they will apply it to the employee's account and give you a voucher you can give the person personally if you want. brookie848 Posted January 30, 2018 #5 Share Posted January 30, 2018 We are with you on this. It is easier to spend on larger ships, in my opinion. Here are where we spent money last year (we had $270 to spend on the last day!). 1. Spa. Sometimes my husband will just go get a shave to spend some money. 2. Photos. We ended up buying photos on our last day. We always get them taken for fun and we actually bought some. But remember, if you have a certain Latitude level, then you receive a discount, so you may not be spending as much as you think. 3. T-shirts as gifts for people. My husband bought some $10 t-shirts for people he works with. 4. Paying for ice cream/milkshakes at O'Sheehan's. 5. Buying gelato or baked goods if you are on ships that offer them. 6. Paying for some upcharge food at places like Food Republic, Margaritaville, Ocean Blue. 7. Buying drinks for performers -- since most of the time you can't do this with the UBP. 8. Just shopping -- I bought a bracelet last year (for about $70). 9. Tips on specialty dining -- but we generally try to do this in cash. Enjoy and have fun! Rare BostonGal35 Posted January 30, 2018 #7 Share Posted January 30, 2018 you can also load it into a slot machine then cash out. you pay the 3% fee but its a great way to get cash and not waste the OBC if you cant use it.

babynurse06 Posted January 30, 2018 #10 Share Posted January 30, 2018 Not an unusual suggestion...but go to the spa. The spa is always what kills me. On my last escape cruise, my final bill was $990. Over $600 was the spa. The rest was mostly cruisenext certificates.
brookie848 Posted January 31, 2018 #11 Share Posted January 31, 2018 4 digits of OBC?! How in the world did you swing that?! We have $900 next month on the Escape. We got $300 for booking and for the final $600 my husband kept asking for it...and finally he got it! PCCs have the ability to give/find you OBC. Any time my husband talks to our PCC, he will ask if there is any OBC available. We booked a cruise a week or two ago, and when we did, the PCC said that he could give us an extra $600 in OBC (after my husband asked, of course). We could choose if we wanted it on the cruise we were booking or our next cruise, which is on the Escape next month. We chose to spend it on the Escape. We didn't want to have over $1,000 in OBC to spend on the Dawn when we would only have one sea day. We do book suites, so that might have something to do with it. But mainly, it is because my husband asks for it. I don't think our PCC would have said, "Hey...here's an extra $600!" unless my husband would have brought it up. KarimaJ Posted January 31, 2018 #14 Share Posted January 31, 2018 I didn’t realize you could use it to give extra gratuity for staff. That’s nice to know! Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Rare BostonGal35 Posted January 31, 2018 #19 Share Posted January 31, 2018 Be careful before you do this. Recent reports are that NCL is not allowing it. i just did it last week on Jade. Unless they tell you OBC cannot be used for casino charges, there is no way to stop it.
Rare mking8288 Posted January 31, 2018 #20 Share Posted January 31, 2018 My wife has never had trouble figuring out what to do with OBC,  :') So true, and she doesn't get anywhere close to the spa & its services. She raid the duty-free shops for her line of cosmetic products, barely fill a corner of her cabin tote (minus the boxes & wrappings, etc. as those take up luggage space) - even if it's several hundreds worth of OBC ... on top of cartoons of cigarettes as gifts. Pssss ... shop early on Day 1 or Day 2 when they "should" be freshly re-stocked with inventories, as they often run out of popular items. What do I get, usually a NCL ship t-shirt or 2 when they run the flea market sale, LOL - plus, the honor of packing her trophies & bring them home. Well, since we don't do the UBP or SDP (unless it's used to treat & bring someone else along as our guests when doing our Platinum dining - to pay for their charges) ... maybe a few glasses of soda (used to be cans) with our meals. Another possibility - if you selected the Free At Sea 250 minutes/1GB data plan on the sailing, use OBC to upgrade to the unlimited plan ... no further out-of-pocket expenses, good on longer itineraries with many sea days. kngtrtn Posted January 31, 2018 #21 Share Posted January 31, 2018 I'm curious If someone gifted me a $100 OBC certificate are there things on-board I CANNOT use this for?
DarbyDean Posted January 31, 2018 #22 Share Posted January 31, 2018 I end up using any remaining OBC for a few bottle of duty free alcohol to take home
newmexicoNita Posted February 1, 2018 #23 Share Posted February 1, 2018 (edited) Be careful before you do this. Recent reports are that NCL is not allowing it. I must have missed where it was reported you could not do this. We did it in November. I will add we did gamble some, but regardless I haven't heard you can not use your OBC in the casino. I don't think there is any way they could enforce this: if it is a refundable OBC it is the same as cash. newmexicoNita Posted February 1, 2018 #24 Share Posted February 1, 2018 some great ideas here: love the alcohol one or should I say, hubby will love it and the cosmetic one for me. Even though cosmetics are not all that much cheaper it would still be a great way to use up the OBC.
vince_g Posted February 1, 2018 #25 Share Posted February 1, 2018 I transferred non refundable OBC to the casino in December without any problem.
