Diamond lounge, Don't be so cheap.

Recommended Posts

Honestly if you can't afford to tip you can't afford to drink. And if your drinks are free, someone is still making them for you and is likely putting up with you being an entitled snot. ("you" being a general term here).

Question, I haven't made it to Dimond yet but have been able to enjoy the Suite lounge a few times. But free drinks are a perk for becoming Dimond. I believe you also get a free day of internet. Should you tip the I.T. guy for keeping the internet up and running or the Photographer for the free picture you can pick up? Not sure why you feel that if someone doesn't tip they become a entitled snot. Tipping is and should be up to the person. I believe one could say the same thing about you. One that worries about what others do is a entitled snot!!!!

No idea why people can't just worry about themselves an mind their own business.

Because they feel better about their crappy lives, when they proclaim on an annoynomous forum how awesome they are when they are in the DL? Heck if I know, I didn’t study abnormal psychology in school, I studied economics which is about the behavior of how rational people operate....

Agree, well said...

Actually the opposite, when everyone gets to decide what others do that is when liberty dies.

Liberty has died, we are all just cogs in the machine, if we get out of line we must be whacked by social warriors on the internet. Very very sad.

To some degree I guess I'm just uninformed. This has been an interesting read. I always do the recommended gratuity, plus extra to my cabin attendant & dining room staff. Always tip room service, never been offered a drink in the casino, don't drink alcohol unless it in a slushy frosty drink and I think the tip is added to the receipt, but Big oops, never tipped when I had the soft drink package and ordered a Diet Coke. I just earned diamond on last cruise, so my next cruise I can use the DL, so not planning to buy the soft drink package; I'll have to be prepared to tip for my 3 Diet Cokes each day.

Just FYI you might still want to buy your soda package or refreshment package, both of which automatically have the 18% gratuity added. Even when you make Diamond your diet cokes in the DL or the 3 drinks with your Seapass card are not available all day. They are limited to the cocktail hours of the DL. These hours vary from ship to ship but are usually around 5 to 8:30 nightly. You can't get your free drinks all day long. Yes, even on soda it is appreciated by the staff if you tip.

Maybe we can legislate PTI to go along with PHI. :') agree to each their own decisions. I know we do what is right for the situation and on future cruises were always treated well by the bar staff we'd seen in the past. In fact I was shocked how one remembered us a few years later almost as if had cruised together just a week or two before.

Does anyone know what the drink menu is like for the 3 free drinks? My wife and daughter drink non alcoholic drinks and I am wondering if that is on there? Do they have margaritas?

They can definitely get sodas, or drinks like Shirley Temples. Last time I was in there (3 months ago) they had margaritas.

Coming from GB I feel we are not so much into tipping as our US counterparts. We always do pre paid gratuities and tip extra for cabin staff and dining room if they have been worth it however this tipping per drink is alien to us in the main. We usually just have 1 drink in a bar at any time so have never tipped the waiter. The Diamond Lounge on sailings our of Southampton is always busy and lively but we don't tip the waiters till the last evening, Usually $30.00 dollars or so.

Sadly, Americans are so concerned with the idea of tipping, they automatically do it no matter what the service level is.

That practice is not helping any of us - 15% sure, 18% no problem, 20% bring it on....

Tipping is and should be for setvice ABOVE AND BEYOND not just for doing something in a mediocre way.

Bribing (oops I mean tipping) a staff member up front is just a way to entice faster, not better, service.

Tips should be paid (if at all) at the end of a cruise - ever since prepaid grats were introduced service and standards have plummeted IMHO.

Finally, I would rather give something to the person hoovering and cleaning the stairs or the toilets than any of the waiting staff.

PS no need to have a moan at me as Im not concerned if you disagree.

As a Brit I am happy to tip as we go along so the staff know they are being 'take care of' this has served us well as they are happy to make drinks away from the normal diamond menu and we've even known them to serve us a drink later in the evening when they are working in a regular bar and no signing slip has been produced.

That is why the country is going to hell. Some people are concerned when others are being exploited.

Yeah, it is slave labor on these cruise ships. Feel free to spend your week on a cruise ship minding what everyone else is doing, wearing, tipping, minding their kids, etc. Not my idea of a good time but whatever makes your week for you is all good.

Note to self : "Moving forward when in the Diamond Lounge, wave a $1.00 bill in the air each time you are served a drink and announce loud enough for all to hear that you are giving it to the person serving the drink, lest your fellow Diamond members think you to be a cheap bastard."

Got it.

Or, we could all just mind our own business.

Are there really that many people watching others like a hawk to see how they handle their money and interact with other people?

Personally, I find it none of my business. Besides, I am busy enjoying my vacation.

When I was in high school...way back before dirt was invented...I was told there are two things, as a general rule, you should never worry about. Don't worry about things you cannot change...it is useless and a waste of your time and energy. Don't worry about things you can change...if it is in your power to change, it then get off your arse and make things better. Once you eliminate those two things life gets more enjoyable.

We're in the tip for every drink crowd. It does seem to me like we're in the minority.

That being said, there are those who tip differently. I try not to pay attention to what others are doing.

I do hope everyone takes care of the crew...they sure take care of us.
