rslinky Posted May 1, 2018 #1 Share Posted May 1, 2018 We dock at 9:00 and hope to be off ship as soon as we can and catch a taxi to the top of the Old Town and walk our way back to the ship. We sail at 4:30 so I am figuring we will only have about 5.5 hours to tour, look, shop and enjoy a local lunch. It looks like a fantastic place to wander and there is so much we want to see. So can anyone who has done this give me your opinion on if it could be enough time or will we really be rushing and looking at the time all day? Thanks. MeHeartCruising Posted May 1, 2018 #2 Share Posted May 1, 2018 I think that's ample time to do a leisurely walk from the upper town back to your ship with a lunch in between. I didn't even use the taxi to get to the top -- I walked up and back down and still only took maybe 5 hours or so. But it will obviously depend on how much you linger and look. CruiserBruce Posted May 1, 2018 #3 Share Posted May 1, 2018 Agree, that is adequate time. We walked from and to the ship, and had plenty of time.
Rare mskaufman Posted May 1, 2018 #4 Share Posted May 1, 2018 We also walked to and from the ship with plenty of time, including lunch in town.

dogs4fun Posted May 2, 2018 #9 Share Posted May 2, 2018 This restaurant looks fabulous! easy to just walk in or does it need reservations? It is best to reserve - you can do it online. The day we visited (3 years ago), the restaurant was packed - fortunately, we had reservations.
GradUT Posted May 2, 2018 #10 Share Posted May 2, 2018 The Rick Steves “Northern European Cruise Ports” has a very good walking tour of Tallinn. We used it and saw a lot in just a few hours.

GradUT Posted May 3, 2018 #12 Share Posted May 3, 2018 If you are moderately in shape, it shouldn’t be a problem. (I did it as a 60-year-old.)

Rare Got2Cruise Posted May 3, 2018 #14 Share Posted May 3, 2018 If you are moderately in shape, it shouldn’t be a problem. (I did it as a 60-year-old.) Yes. The hill is a gradual incline. So you’re walking from place to place. Finding a public restroom was my biggest issue up there.
lamb616 Posted May 3, 2018 #15 Share Posted May 3, 2018 I have to say, I knew absolutely nothing about Estonia when I started planning this trip (really, I still don't) and it just so happened that most cruises that visited the countries that were on my "must see list", happened to also include Tallinn. I was a little annoyed at first, as this wasn't on "my list" of places to visit. But the more I read about it, I'm finding it's one of the ports I'm most looking forward to! Maybe even the one I'm looking forward to MOST!!
rslinky Posted May 3, 2018 Author #16 Share Posted May 3, 2018 Lamb616. I feel the same as you. Tallinn is the port I am most looking forward to visiting. Maybe that is because we are doing tours in all the others and Tallinn we are doing on our own. Maybe its the old world charm. While I am sure the commercialism of tourism will be visible, I think Tallinn will seem a bit more natural and give the opportunity to experience "a slice of life". Now I just have to hope for sunshine.

This worrys me when travelling with toddlers . Did you find public restrooms? Maybe your knowledge will save me from frantically hunting for one with a crying toddler . Maybe your knowledge will save me from frantically hunting for one with a crying toddler . Here’s a tip, one of the BEST things I ever bought for my toddlers. Buy a Pottette, they are about $15 on amazon, and a pack of refills. It’s a completely foldable compact potty that you can fit into any daypack etc. we used it countless times when my daughter was little, side of road, back of car, street fairs etc https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0016KV73W/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1525649520&sr=8-1&keywords=pottette+travel+potty&dpPl=1&dpID=51YAK6sJIbL&ref=plSrch

You can usually ask to use a restaurant restroom without any issue if you have a toddler. In Central and Eastern Europe especially.
