Made it to Calgary! The flight was a little bumpy here and there but much less nerve-wracking overall than our drive to the airport. (We really though we might not make it with the car acting up but think maybe we blew the muffler?).

A word about Air Canada. Comfortable and friendly but really...no snack on a five hour plus flight? Not even a nut or snack-sized bag of pretzels? Check out the size of my cups of coffee and water lol (I carried the bottle of water on).

To be fair, lots of meals and goodies were offered for purchase. I am willing to accept than I'm just a spoiled American...do I expect too much?

We are taking the red eye home from Vancouver (to Atlanta) and Delta isn't even offering breakfast!

I have grown accustomed to no meals, sadly. But not even a snack?! And yeah, a red eye should automatically include at least a roll or a muffin lol.

Pictures of food and menus always make my heart go pitter patter [emoji14] As a nurse, you probably have a really good idea of how eating is impacted with liver failure.... the pictures really help me get hungry.... and thanks so much in advance :D
Hope you are staying healthy Queenie!! I will be happy to provide plenty of food porn for health promotion purposes! [emoji6]

We are already in our room at the Residence Inn by Marriott Downtown on Burard. There was no wait at all for a taxi at 1pm and there was a minivan available. No problem with our American Amex. Our room is very nice and we got it including breakfast for a great price. We have a lovely patio on the 4th floor with a glimpse of the mountains of North Vancouver through the buildings. Unfortunately the lot across the street is a construction zone. So...it's loud! We won't in be here much anyway! Too much to do. Gonna freshen up and hit GI.703c60205e31aeffb739051233aae191.jpg87ee35ce78d40f88658d878080f1ae6f.jpg

Sorry it's on Horny not Burard. Don't know why I said Burard.

Glad you have safely arrived in Vancouver.

All the airlines are cutting back everywhere -- even in first class. In 2016 we flew American Airlines from Phoenix to Pittsburgh, PA -- long flight. The original plane was changed to an old 319 (?) -- no movies, no music, skimpy breakfast -- hours of nothing!!

Thanks for this Live report! We board the NA at the end of the summer and this helps pass the waiting time.

You are in for such a treat. We are blown away by the beauty of Vancouver and absolutely fell in love with GI!

We had those individual screens on the backs of the seats in front of us and could select movies. It was funny, on our short flight from Calgary to Vancouver, we were offered pretzels for free. I guess on the longer flights when they sell stuff there's nothing free.

Unbelievable day today, friends. I can't believe this all happened. Vancouver is breath-taking. Had a great time walking around GI with a pre-dinner stop and Granville island brewing company and then a quick, easy to Salmon 'n Bannock, a traditional native American culinary experience run by First Nations. Interesting dinner, some delicious, some not to our taste but so glad we went!!

Tomorrow recover lost sleep and relax around Stanley Park on foot.

At Salmon 'n Bannock we went traditional, ordered a bunch of appetizers that were unusual sounding and tasting. Some of us liked them more than others.65982168ad5a8179bf424de1c2e7e8c1.jpgdb405d654210d0600abfb5b0580bf2a5.jpg15631b5eb6c624c4d2ca298b70f93485.jpg03cfde3ffde3076aceb6f6c553d17173.jpg8a978bf86ee30038029990196a1fee28.jpg3775b44575cbfab2919e2479512f3c18.jpg

Following along! We (my kids- a tween and a teen) are sailing on the NA later this summer and have some time in Vancouver and Whistler before we sail. First time to Alaska, first time on HAL, first time to the Pacific Northwest! I am super excited to follow you on your journey!

Based on your name and your gorgeous kitties' names I assume you are Disney fans? We are super Disney fans, to the point where I now have a side job that allows me to help people enjoy their visits with the Mouse! ;)

So excited to read more about your adventures!

Definitely. It's all part of the same trend in the consumer economy that we discuss here often, with practically everything offered to consumers being reviewed, investigated and restructured so that it can be offered with the lowest price possible, and that often opening up new revenue streams by way of new surcharges and fees on things that used to be included. Airlines, hotels, cruises - everything.

I assume you choose Salmon 'n Bannock for its location near where you were staying? From your review and the menu, it looks like a unique experience, and one I really wish we had a chance to enjoy, but I fear it might be too far from where we're staying to get to - especially as tired as we'll be. Thanks for sharing it though. It is just another item for the pile making me want to schedule another visit to Vancouver sometime in the future. Edited by bUU

Thanks for following and yes we are also crazy Disney fans. We keep saying Vancouver reminds us of the Canada pavilion in Epcot! Disney really nails it. You are lucky to have a side job like that it must be rewarding!

bUU - we chose Salmon 'n Bannock because of the cuisine that was offered and it's high ratings and recommendations on CC...all matched up so we had to try it. My DD also has Celiac Disease so we have to pay attention to gluten free options and ratings. It was an easy walk from GI so made sense to do the two on the same day. We did take a taxi back to the hotel and it cost about $11 plus tip but that's about what we would have spent on return ferry fare so it was worth it to be quick and drop us off in front of the hotel. But yes our hotel is super close to GI. It only took us about 15 minutes to get there including a short wait for the ferry.
