Rare MicCanberra Posted June 25, 2018 #2 Share Posted June 25, 2018 Welcome to cruise critic. Check out cruise timetables for some of the Norwegian ports you wish to visit and see what ships call in there.

Capt_BJ Posted June 25, 2018 #4 Share Posted June 25, 2018 Viking Ocean (we leave soon for 14 nights on Viking Sky, London to Bergen with 5 additional ports in Norway) or look here where you'll find a schedule of port visits for port of Flam http://crew-center.com/flam-norway-cruise-ship-schedule-2018 Flam is pretty far inland so you get a good fjord experience! Also where you find the famous Flam Railway ….
Rare LHT28 Posted June 25, 2018 #5 Share Posted June 25, 2018 Do you mean a cruise ship or ferry type like Hurtigruten ?
hallasm Posted June 25, 2018 #6 Share Posted June 25, 2018 Most Cruise ships can navigate the Norwegian fjords. Only exception might be Lofoten. For Hurtigruten please note than most Port stops are very short. Sent from my iPad using Forums
jocap Posted June 25, 2018 #7 Share Posted June 25, 2018 We've visited Flam on the small Balmoral (Fred Olsen), but we've also been there on the massive Independence of the Seas. Fred Olsen, Cruise and Maritime and Marella (Tui) all have ships leaving Newcastle for the fjords, and are all small, older ships, at the lower end of the cruise market. Rare geoherb Posted June 25, 2018 #8 Share Posted June 25, 2018 Also check out the port times on the major cruise lines to see which cruises would work to fit in a small boat fjord cruise. Our upcoming Princess cruise is going to Norway, and a lot of folks on our roll call are taking an excursion to see Osterfjord/Mostraumen during our day in Bergen. Capt_BJ Posted June 25, 2018 #9 Share Posted June 25, 2018 OP asked about 'small ship' So as I mentioned Viking Ocean, which meets the definition but is probably on the larger end of the scale with around 1000 pass' fits the bill Scanning the link I provided for FLAM and looking for 'small ship' visits I find WINDSTAR - their 'traditional ships' versus their motor sailers … WINDSTAR BREEZE .. formerly STAR BEEZE of Seabourn Cruises, 400 feet 200 pass' Silversea cruises: Wind and Spirit … 650 feet 540 pass' Seabourn Ovation: 690 feet 604 pass' there may be others on the sched that I do not recognize as 'small ship'
Rare LHT28 Posted June 25, 2018 #10 Share Posted June 25, 2018 the OP needs to define "small ship" to some it is 200 pax to others it could mean under 1500pax all subjective We leave Amsterdam in a few weeks for 2 wks cruise mainly Norway ports but the ship is 1250 pax to me it is a small ship ;) YMMV
Pudgesmom Posted June 25, 2018 #11 Share Posted June 25, 2018 Windstar does the fjords with a 200 passenger ship. We have done it and it was fantastic.
MJC Posted June 26, 2018 #12 Share Posted June 26, 2018 Windstar does the fjords with a 200 passenger ship. We have done it and it was fantastic. This is on our wish list. We did Star Breeze in Costa Rica and it is a wonderful ship.
hallasm Posted June 26, 2018 #13 Share Posted June 26, 2018 Is there a small ship with coastal access going to Norway fjords? OP asked about 'small ship' IMO not necessarily a small ship. Could be any ship with ‘coastal access’ assuming that OP considered only small ships would have access to the fjords. I’ll suggest to define the ports/fjords of interest and then follow this advise Welcome to cruise critic. Check out cruise timetables for some of the Norwegian ports you wish to visit and see what ships call in there. jocap Posted June 26, 2018 #14 Share Posted June 26, 2018 Both Marco Polo and Black Watch are visiting this year- popular with those who like classic old ships.
