js Posted July 14, 2018 #1 Share Posted July 14, 2018 Hi. Not getting into a debate and understand the need for phasing out plastic straws but I am asking if abyone that has recently been on Allure can confirm if you are still getting plastic staws with their drinks? Thank you. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Ken at the beach Posted July 14, 2018 #2 Share Posted July 14, 2018 Even if they were still using them your sailing is a month away and it could change by them. I would bring your own if you have any concerns.

Ashland Posted July 14, 2018 #5 Share Posted July 14, 2018 When they decide not to use plastic they will replace them with the paper type...you certainly don't need to bring your own.

Once they go to paper I will bring my own. My iced coffee takes quite a while for me to finish and the staws get mushy same for frozen drinks but Im going to roll the dice and keep my staws at home for next month lol Sent from my iPhone using Forums
cruisegirl1 Posted July 14, 2018 #7 Share Posted July 14, 2018 (edited) Just off the Majesty this morning. Plenty of plastic straws. Seems some of our drinks even came with straws. Frozen drinks came with a straw. Bloody Mary came with a straw. M Edited July 14, 2018 by cruisegirl1
cb at sea Posted July 14, 2018 #8 Share Posted July 14, 2018 You could always ask for 2 paper straws and switch out when one gets "mushy".

csnarpy Posted July 15, 2018 #11 Share Posted July 15, 2018 Ya, I buy the hard plastic ones and reuse them. Most places in my city have gone away from straws. Which I’m very happy about.

awestover89 Posted July 15, 2018 #13 Share Posted July 15, 2018 How do you clean them to avoid bacteria build up? The ones that are meant to be reusable usually come in a kit with a cleaning brush. We got this set from Amazon: https://amzn.to/2NSf94v The metal straws are popular but we find them weird personally. I really prefer the silicone ones
Ashland Posted July 15, 2018 #14 Share Posted July 15, 2018 I certainly don't like to carry around the drink cups when onboard...and not going to carry around my own reusable straw either .... so if paper is the option ... fine with me.
Rare mcatmcat Posted July 15, 2018 #15 Share Posted July 15, 2018 Independence in April, you had to ask and good luck for them to find out where are they hidden. Sent from my iPad using Forums

setsail Posted July 15, 2018 #17 Share Posted July 15, 2018 You can get all the straws you want off of the dishes in the hall. Some are unused and have not been stepped on or rolled over
besberry Posted July 15, 2018 #18 Share Posted July 15, 2018 Anthem last week had sign saying only available on request except for frozen drinks. Same on Symphony in April, but the drinks came with sturdy paper ones anyway. They didn't seem to get soft and squidgy, but maybe I'm just a fast drinker! Melrosgirl Posted July 15, 2018 #19 Share Posted July 15, 2018 Harmony last week had straws everywhere. Every drink I ordered from bar or Starbucks came with one. (Glasses of soda at dinner did not.)
RocketMan275 Posted July 15, 2018 #20 Share Posted July 15, 2018 Starbucks have eliminated plastic straws. But, the replacement for the plastic straws includes more plastic than the old straws. As some have pointed out, sometimes the solution is often worse than the problem.

Wine-O Posted August 3, 2018 #23 Share Posted August 3, 2018 I just love the plastic straws with the bend like this. Maybe RCI should get straws like these. I don't think paper does that.
tugboat Posted October 5, 2018 #24 Share Posted October 5, 2018 We are on the Liberty this week they don’t offer a straw when serving a drink but if you want just ask they have them. Easy peasy Sent from my iPad using Forums
Havingfun2010 Posted October 5, 2018 #25 Share Posted October 5, 2018 I thought this debate ended last month? Guess it's back. I understand the importance of cutting down on waste. There are many things that I see that I believe should be cut out. Like packaging. It seems like every time something gets less wasteful, something new is added. The debate is really about the fear of germs today. I grew up, drinking out of cups, and water hoses, and water fountains and I'm still going strong. The world will not end if straws are removed.
