No more OBC for non refundable bookings Made after 11/1/18

Recommended Posts

Well, at least it will make the Next Cruise area less crowded.

I have not booked a cruise while onboard since the non refundable fares started. Like you said it's just a matter of time until that is the only option or like airlines the refundable fares will be so high that they are not really feasible

Perhaps this will be a positive thing. Once they lay off all those unnecessary Next Cruise agents, they can use those crew staterooms for additional stateroom attendants to handle all the new staterooms that have been added.

I remember way back when the Loyalty Ambassadors made the next cruise reservations onboard. And then they got a helper. And then it turned into Cruise Next without the LA.

Just saw this on another site. Supposedly fares will be lower but no more OBC for non refundable bookings made after 11/1/18

Ellen, I didn’t read into that the fares would be any lower. Here is the bulk of the e mail sent to the TA’s. What the blog posted had a lot of stuff that they maybe added by reading between the lines,

“We would like to inform you of an upcoming change to our Non-Refundable Deposit Program, resulting from a review of booking analytics over the past year. Based on this research, the onboard credit earned when booking six months or more prior to sailing will no longer apply. This update will take effect on all new bookings made on or after November 1st, 2018.

We are confident that this change will not impact your business. The Non-Refundable Deposit Program continues to offer the best pricing available — and will always be priced lower than the standard fare during brand promotions.”

I like the blog version better:halo::halo:

If they keep chip chipping away, their tree of loyal cruisers will eventually fall down.

They don't care about the tree of loyal cruisers, they care about the forest of new cruisers who don't know all the sales are fake.

That's seems to be the case with ncl also

Only ncl really outdid themselves for April 2019 cruises

They out priced this former ncl cruiser that's for sure so rccl is getting my entire family of 6 for 9 days next April and I got an excellent price

Of course after this cruise if the smoke situation is as bad as I'm thinking it might be...we are going to X

Only doing rccl this time because everyone is joining in and we love the ports and dates.

I'm not a fan of NRD, especially since I travel with my mom and kids, so there is always the chance that I'll have to cancel. Case in point...I had Adventure booked for 8/10 sailing out of Bayonne. Unexpectedly needed a new roof when the kitchen ceiling started leaking. Then mom ended up needing a hip replacement. Since I had refundable booked, I was able to cancel with no penalty. And my prices were still lower than anything that had been advertised, including NRD.

I just don't see how Royal continues to offer this program and now has taken away one of the only "perks" of the option. Even Carnival with their Early Saver pricing, offers you the ability to get the lower price up until 2 days before sailing. That's an incentive in my book. Royal's option...no incentive to book. I'm willing to pay a bit more to know that if the unexpected happens, I can cancel.

Great just great......chip, chip, chip. They are making it less attractive for sure to book non refundable. Unless they decrease the fare equal to what we were getting in OBC it’s not good. And I really doubt they are going to reduce fares for 2 by $200-300 more. Other lines will be getting a comparison from me for sure.

Please help.

I read this to mean you will no longer get $100 OBC for booking a NR deposit.

How did we get to no more OBC for NEXT cruise? What am I missing?

So far it's the OBC you get when booking a NR more than 6 months out that is going away

We booked an NRD on Allure in June for next June. We receieved $100 OBC for booking the NRD onboard and $100 that was the regular promotion for a total of $200.

My understanding is that if we booked this after 11/1/18, we would only get the regular promotional credit of $100 if that's what the promotion is.

That's what I read. I don't know how it got off tangent and the reduction of next cruise agents on board.

Anyone know for sure, what the current deal is for bookings made less than 6 months out?

Thank you for this bit of news,Ellen.

You're welcome Kathy!! If you book less than 6 months out you just get the supposedly lower NR rate, no OBC

Some people are misreading this. You still get the OBC for booking a cruise on the ship. What you don't get is the extra OBC for booking a NRD cruise. So if you book a 7 night Allure for example on the ship - you used to get $100 OBC for booking on the ship and $100 OBC for booking a NRD. Now you will still get the $100 OBC for booking on the ship but you won't get the $100 for booking a NRD cruise

I am booking mine end of August so will still get the OBC for both so I am happy! I figured they would eventually do away with the $100 for booking the NRD. As long as I can still get the $100 OBC for booking on the ship, still makes it worth the time to go and book it while on the ship

I'm disappointed - not worth it for me to bother booking onboard as $100 obc and a slightly reduced price is not worth the hassle of non-refundable (especially as in Australia we can't take advantage of price drops on non-refundable cruises)

Also not a fan of NRD. Unfortunately, if this were to ever become standard, then I would not book a cruise with RCI, more than 60 days out. If prices are unreasonable at that point, I will take my cruise money, and my casino money, somewhere else. Makes no difference to me, as these so called C&A benefits really do not benefit me at all, so it's not like I am losing anything to go with another line.

I expect that with US/Canadian bookings in the near future. Once a booking cannot be cancelled for a full refund, the next stop is not to allow price drops.

And then we might see real sales.

Just my opinion of course.

I just saw this, don't know if this has been discussed. I find it odd only because they say they are going to lower rates instead. Odd because they want you to book non-refundable. Sounds like about BS RCI idea and RCI fuzzy math. Here is the article.

And the link doesn't work. Just Google, Royal Caribbean non-refundable OBC. I'm sure it'll come up.
