Rare LHT28 Posted August 17, 2018 #202 Share Posted August 17, 2018 I asked a question once about whether wireless headphones could be used with Oceania's tv's, but the responses were mixed. Also, it didn't sound easy to set up so I dropped the idea. My friend (who I travel with) likes to go to bed early...like 8pm...and I prefer 11pm. But she doesn't want the TV volume on after 8 so she can sleep. That's why I was hoping to find a solution. Oh well.... The wireless headphone should work fine if the TV has a headphone jack Just plug the base unit into the tv & a way you go Other options https://www.cnet.com/how-to/how-to-connect-wireless-headphones-to-any-tv/

Rare Smokeyham Posted August 28, 2018 #205 Share Posted August 28, 2018 Just watched this YouTube Video of the proposed changes to the Oceania ships and I am not enthusiastic. One of the reasons that I wanted to sail on Oceania was the rich warmth of the classic style with comfortable seating, and a sense of old world charm. From the video and the pictures on their website it seems they want to "Vikingize" the ships with a much colder and more modern look. The cabin they show at 3:51 seems cold and sterile, with its greys and whites. Ironically, they start the video by saying that they asked passengers, and were told that they liked the ships just they way they were!
bigmjh Posted August 28, 2018 #206 Share Posted August 28, 2018 Are they actually going with vinyl seating surfaces in the MDR (point 3:04 in the video)?
ABoatNerd Posted August 28, 2018 #207 Share Posted August 28, 2018 Smokeyham, excellent assessment. Reviewing Viking, recent changes on Azamara, the released Oceania visuals and the just released Celebrity revitalization renderings - they all are incorporating modern, minimalist, light colours etc. I can understand why Oceania wants to "keep up with the Jones" - having consumers consider you "dated" "old fashioned" will not necessarily win you business specifically in the premium category. As a consumer, I am more interested in Oceania maintaining their high quality of the food and service.
roothy123 Posted August 28, 2018 #208 Share Posted August 28, 2018 (edited) As a consumer, I am more interested in Oceania maintaining their high quality of the food and service. Yes, I agree that quality of food and service are most important, plus great and varied port-intensive itineraries. But updating to a modern and less oppressive look completely works for me. The interior of Oceania ships look so old fashioned and dark compared to some of what other cruise lines have done - and not just Viking! I don't think Oceania is going quite to the extent of the casual, light and modern look of Viking, though. roothy123 Posted August 28, 2018 #209 Share Posted August 28, 2018 Are they actually going with vinyl seating surfaces in the MDR (point 3:04 in the video)? They look a little like the chairs that are currently in use at one of the bars on at least some O ships - the modern purply bar that I love to photograph. Kate-AHF Posted August 28, 2018 #210 Share Posted August 28, 2018 I don't think Oceania is going quite to the extent of the casual, light and modern look of Viking, though. Neither do I. They seem to be hitting a nice middle note between the profoundly elegant Silversea "Muse" decor, and Viking's relaxed and informal Scan style. I believe that those chairs are covered in an exotic leather of some sort. I want to say, whale, but I am not positive.

That photo shows blue lighting, but what I remember was definitely purple, so perhaps that was just an artist's rendering, or what I remember has been replaced, or something. . I would look for a picture I took but I don't have a great filing system and it would take too long. Oh well, not important. As long as a chair is comfortable, I'm OK with it - and I'm guessing vinyl might be a little better from a hygienic standpoint, plus obviously easier to clean. Thanks, Perhaps it is old fashioned, but I find the modern art pictures, which they show in their promotional pictures as replacements for traditional paintings and pictures, to be meaningless. This webpage contrasts a before and after shot of a cabin.

Rare pinotlover Posted August 28, 2018 #218 Share Posted August 28, 2018 But what about the light switches? I’m just not sure sure I see enough light switches in those videos!!! Will less light switches mean fewer lights for my wife to do her hair and makeup??!!!! Oh! Just like Lyn said, It’s just computer generated images for marketing purposes and all those accurate details aren’t really on the video or pictures!! Oh silly me, counting light switches!;p What? Someone trying to accurately discern actual chairs and materials!! Counting light switches is probably more accurate.

Sounds like this could work, but without knowing what connections are on the new Oceania TV's or where those settings/plug in holes are located, it's kind of risky to buy these expensive headphones and then maybe not be able to hook them up. The better ones run between $250-300. And returning them from somewhere around the world would be a headache. I'll pray about it. :halo:

Wol Posted September 1, 2018 #222 Share Posted September 1, 2018 We looked over the demo cabin on Nautica last month: it's better than we had feared - lighter and of course not as "used" as the old furnishings. I think with all the white and light colours it may get grubby quite quickly: the modern, almost minimalist look has to be pristine to work, whereas the old dark furnishings can accumulate quite a bit of superficial damage and still be acceptable. The bathroom does look better, but I wonder about the practicality of the glass shower doors. I know that some find shower curtains to be downmarket, but they do make it possible to move around in what is a tiny space without banging against something solid. The glass doors might restrict one's movements while showering - we will see on our next Nautical cruise. I am one who appreciates the dark, slightly old-style decor - and especially before they spent money and replaced the Terrace wall pictures with that ghastly stone brick wall! azam71209 Posted September 1, 2018 #223 Share Posted September 1, 2018 I was thinking the same thing. I sort of liked the feeling of walking into a Downton Abbey set, with butlers at my beck and call. To me, cruising is special and "old school." If I want sleek, white and modern, I can find that at any number of hotels and resorts. Also, if it's meant to look old and elegant, a few scratches are patina. White furniture with scratches is simply dirty. Mary
