myra711 Posted August 10, 2018 #1 Share Posted August 10, 2018 Even after 2 cruises and months of hanging out on these boards! ;p ;pWe will be in a balcony room, and a young adult will be sleeping on the couch/bed. Is that comfortable or would you recommend that we ask for an egg-crate foam immediately? And if we don't get one immediately, is it unlikely one will be available if he decides after a night or two that he wants one? Thanks! I am also wondering if Bermuda has much in the way of bugs (ie, do we need to bring bug spray), but I can find that out easily on my own, I think. But feel free to weigh in on that, too! :)

cb at sea Posted August 10, 2018 #3 Share Posted August 10, 2018 Young adults can generally sleep anywhere! But, if you want an egg crate, ask for it upfront! Not all lines provide them anymore.
Rare BirdTravels Posted August 10, 2018 #4 Share Posted August 10, 2018 The couch is ok for sleeping. That’s where I grab an afternoon nap sometimes. We have never had big problems in Bermuda. Specifically, Bermuda does not have a Zika carrying mosquito.
myra711 Posted August 10, 2018 Author #5 Share Posted August 10, 2018 Thank you for the responses! I'll ask the young man in question and let him decide re: egg crate or not. And glad to hear that it isn't buggy.
gymbomb Posted August 10, 2018 #6 Share Posted August 10, 2018 I would ask for one from the beginning. Just because a young adult may be capable of sleeping on something crappy and still functioning the next day does not mean he or she should have to if there is another option available! (I slept on a sofa bed on a 7 day cruise when I was in my 20s. I never once complained because my parents were paying for the cruise and that would be super rude. But it was soooooo bad!!! I wish I had known foam toppers were available then. Honestly sleeping on the floor would have probably been better because at least the floor is flat.) myra711 Posted August 10, 2018 Author #7 Share Posted August 10, 2018 Thanks Gymbomb...I think that is the safest route. I'll get one right away for him so that we don't have to worry about them running out.

ANYONE, regardless of age, can sleep anywhere if they have to. That doesn't mean they like it or are comfortable. See post from gym bomb. If you can, get the egg crate. Shidah Posted August 13, 2018 #10 Share Posted August 13, 2018 We asked for a foam topper and were told no they did not offer this, and that was in the Haven, so don’t assume they will accommodate that request.
alreadypacked Posted August 14, 2018 #11 Share Posted August 14, 2018 As others have stated already, definitely ask for the egg crate topper. Read about my party's experience regarding the sofa bed situation last year on Escape in posts 9, 10, and 14 on this thread: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2492363

You may not know this, but it is closer to Canada than the Caribbean.
Aprille Posted August 14, 2018 #14 Share Posted August 14, 2018 I always request egg crate foam toppers for all beds in the cabin when I make my reservation. Call and add your request. They do run out so best to request it *before* you get on the ship.
styme123 Posted August 14, 2018 #15 Share Posted August 14, 2018 I am a bug magnet! I got bitten 3 times by a mosquito the first 2 days of our cruise to Bermuda last week. The thing must have gotten into my room while in port in NYC. Didn't get bitten by anything in Bermuda though.
