had decent luck although I really hate auto shufflers which they use and shuffle after every deal. I am no card counter in any way but you do get some kind of idea what may be coming with a shoe. I love blackjack but dont play a lot on the ships, more craps

People are feeding the slots 24x7. Hit them hard with max bet and $300 - $500 in your pocket. They will shake loose. Mostly, players feed the slots on cruise ships. In contrast, our land-based casino is crawling with minimum bet slot players for 18 of 24 hours so the action is slow and pays low until the heavy players come for their shift.

I don't mock them to their face...as I know they are subsidizing my fare, but seems like winners everywhere!

 

It's like a tax on people that are bad at math.

The limits are typically lower than LV Strip casinos so its relatively less expensive to spend some time in the ship casino. Plus win or lose, people seem to be in better moods...

The $10 minimum tables only pay 6 to 5 for blackjack.

I have never won on table games on cruises .That is why lately it is only slots for me.

Maybe it was just us, but the NCL tables were very good to us!

 

On the Escape my husband stayed in the high limit room and left up 10k. He was happy as it paid for all 4 cabins we had booked.

 

On my Sky cruise, my husband was under the weather and stuck in the suite. So I spent Sunday in the casino (we couldn't get to GSC). I turned $400 into $7,500.

 

Now we are hooked!

They used a multi-deck shoe on every NCL cruise I have sailed and reshuffle by hand only when the marker is reached. No idea what ship you were on, but Spirit, Jewel, Getaway, Sun, Dawn, Gem, Epic, and Escape use neither auto shufflers nor every deal shuffling.

Sun, Dawn, breakaway, Gem and Pearl use continuous shuffle machines on all their low minimum blackjack tables.

Those are the 6:5 tables. (Which to me makes it 21 and not real blackjack )

There is usually one table that deals from a shoe and the odds are even lower on these tables all the rest have auto shuffle. And I have been on most of those ships.

On the Getaway in '16 and Escape March '18 they were using autoshufflers at the low limit tables.

That's just not true.

The six dollar minimum on all the ships have CSM.

Pretty sure the same goes for most ten dollar minimum.

It's not until the fifteen dollar tables that you'll reliably get a regular shoe that only gets shuffled at the end of the shoe.

Things change, so some of the above comments are not current. I've taken the Gem, Breakaway (twice), Epic and Escape in the last 16 months. Here is what I recall.

 

Breakaway (April/Sept 2017), Gem (June 2017), Epic (Dec 2017)

- Autoshuffler at stakes under $25, shoe at $25 and above.

 

Escape (June 2018)

- Autoshuffler at stakes under $50, shoe at $50 and above.

 

Not sure what "nor every deal shuffling" means, but that poster is incorrect often.

 

My luck as been no worse on board than it has been on land. Sometimes I'm up, other times, down.

I've been on the Breakaway a couple of times. Playing $50 BJ table, I was up around $2K by the end of the cruise.

 

Hit the 2nd Breakaway cruise for $2,700 playing 3 card poker.

 

Hit Epic craps table for about $1,500.

 

Then, it happened. Was on the Gem a few months ago. Lost around $1,600 trying just about every game I could to change my luck. No dice (pun intended)!

 

If they offer "Hold'em" cash games, I play those, too. But, the rake by the house makes that a tough game unless you can catch someone playing stupid or drunk (sometimes both) and they have cash burning a hole in their pocket. Or, they need to prove they're some sort of card shark. Any of those scenarios usually puts me in the positive end on the cash games.

All the ships I have been on have been auto-shuffle machines after every hand. No shoe. (granted I don't play in the $100 table area). That's why I don't play blackjack on ships. Like the OP said, not a card counter, but get a feel when there are aces due and can up my bets.

Splitting any 2 cards and doubling on any 2 cards is also a player advantage that most players fail to recognize.

 

All in all $50 and up BJ and craps on NCL is as good as odds as you will get at almost any land casino. Sure there are 100 times craps tables out there but there are tricks to them also.

Good thing about ncl is that even their lowest minimum craps table has 345.

On Royal you have to put five times the minimum on the pass line to be allowed 345. That's what happens when there's no competition.

 

I do miss some kind of "fire" bet on NCL. I know it's big house odds, but they're fun for the whole table at a low cost.

Last time I was on NCL, Sun Dec 2017 ( and every time before that ); on the 15 dollar tables:

Hit on soft 17

Split anything

Double after splitting except when splitting access

Double anything

 

Those are pretty standard rules in most casinos, the main difference being at which minimum does the dealer stay on soft 17.
