Doughboy Posted September 16, 2018 #1 Share Posted September 16, 2018 I noticed on the Princess website it states you can save 20% if you buy the card before your cruise. Am I correct in thinking that is basically the gratuity? If you bought it on the ship, you would pay gratuity?
Thrak Posted September 16, 2018 #2 Share Posted September 16, 2018 Can you point out where you see a 20% discount on the Princess site? Edit: Oh, I see what you are looking at. It is not 20% less to purchase in advance. It's 20% cheaper than buying 15 specialty coffee drinks individually. The coffee "card" (now electronic and added to your cruise card) is the same price whether purchased in advance or onboard.

Am I correct in thinking that is basically the gratuity? If you bought it on the ship, you would pay gratuity? No card anymore its a package they put on your account. The 20% savings is what you get versus buying each drink individually. You get charged the gratuity regardless.
IECalCruiser Posted September 16, 2018 #5 Share Posted September 16, 2018 In my cruise personalize , i see this: The coffee package costs $35.65 whether purchased in advance or onboard. That is $31.00 for the package and $4.65 for gratuity. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Doughboy Posted September 16, 2018 Author #6 Share Posted September 16, 2018 Thanks for the information. I wonder what the 20% savings is?
reedprincess Posted September 16, 2018 #7 Share Posted September 16, 2018 Thanks for the information. I wonder what the 20% savings is? As note in multiple posts above, the 20% savings WITH the coffee package (not off the coffee package) is a 20% savings over buying the individual drinks without the package. .. But if you do not use up all the "punches" the savings rapidly go away.
reedprincess Posted September 16, 2018 #9 Share Posted September 16, 2018 But if you do not use up all the "punches" the savings rapidly go away. I would think that was obvious, but thanks for pointing it out.

Keep in mind it also allows all the brewed coffee YOU want without paying anything more. Not sure how many "normal" coffees you might drink. Princessejill Posted September 17, 2018 #13 Share Posted September 17, 2018 Do note, though, that, since this is now on your cruise card, it's only good for the cruise on which you've purchased it. We just got off the Royal and were told we had until the end of the year (2018) to use up the punches on my "real" coffee card (paper version). Apparently there are newer paper cards that give you until March, 2019, too, but then it's all on the cruise card.
Rare Hlitner Posted September 17, 2018 #14 Share Posted September 17, 2018 On the Regal now and coffee card is all on your account with no more real cards. They still honor our old coffee cards although some of the staff was ignorant of this fact Hank

Boiler Cruiser Posted September 17, 2018 #16 Share Posted September 17, 2018 Is the coffee card worth it for a 7 day cruise? My wife and I both drink about 3-4 cups a day...don't like the "made from syrup" drink that they call coffee.

Boiler Cruiser Posted September 17, 2018 #18 Share Posted September 17, 2018 Where do you get the brewed coffee? You can get brewed coffee at the International Café.
famski740 Posted September 17, 2018 #19 Share Posted September 17, 2018 On the new Royal Class ships (Royal; Regal, Majestic, and soon to be Sky) brewed coffee is available all over the ship. The beans used at the International Café are just better beans.

Apparently there are newer paper cards that give you until March, 2019, too, but then it's all on the cruise card. Some incorrect info here, somewhat. Paper coffee cards are good/valid until August 31, 2019 - UNLESS the paper card has a pre-printed expiration date on it, then it's only good till that date. There's no end of year or March universal cut-off - it's August 2019 unless pre-printed expiration date.
