Adventure OTS missing crew member, likely delays boarding 11/24

Sorry, but the company's first responsibility is to the passengers, so sailing short handed is a disservice to the customer.  The only reason the company would go a cruise without a replacement is due to lack of qualified replacement, time to get the replacement to the ship, or other documentation issue.  What I've seen is this is a entertainment staff member, and while this is definitely not an essential ship's service, it is a small department, so loss of one member can seriously effect the department's performance.

You seem to be directly quoting a site that is known for hating cruise lines and whose information is highly slanted to the negative.  I prefer to get my news from more reputable sites.

 

It is a tragedy that this gentleman is missing but, any company, in any business, has to continue on.  If you actually do still work for this cruise line, you should consider that when you post.

You nailed it.  When I googled the story and THAT site came up I knew it would be heavily slanted against the cruise line.  And of course it was.

I was on the cruise .. just got home

 

In Cozumel we'd stayed on board.  Noonish there were a couple of strange announcements for a crew member to contact "HR" immediately.  Subsequently learned this was when they had not shown up for their assigned shift ... individual was from sports staff.

 

Not too long later there was a call for "Charlie Charlie Charlie" ... while many cruisers have heard ALPHA and BRAVO codes I suspect "C" was new to most.  Shortly thereafter I noticed teams (of 2) conducting a search of the ship. "Charlie calls for a ship wide search by the crew <on this RCL ship - the codes are NOT the same across cruise lines>

 

Later in the day the master made an announcement explaining the search and that a missing crew had not been found

talking to some crew after this I was told the individual had been "escorted to their bed" the night b4.  And then not noticed missing until the next day ......

no camera detected the 'overboard' .... if an overboard occurred ......

 

no search occured by the ship obviously

 

I see no mention in the press ......

I was On Scene Commander for MANY such cases in the years I was Commander of major Coast Guard Cutters ...... in this area

no delays I could see for arriving folk ... special guests were boarding as we departed ..... no law enforcement vehicles out of the ordinary seen on the pier .....

 

it was sort of 'oh well' with the crew I talked to ......

Was also on this cruise, sorry for his family.  Apparently the captain made the announcement while we were off the ship in port in Cozumel Thursday, one of my son's friends mentioned it to him when we returned.  Everything appeared to be business as usual.

It is a tragedy, the crew member is British, he is still missing, he will always be missed by his friends and family !

So pleased for you all that the cruise wasn’t interrupted and there were no delays and the ship is running fully staffed .... really ? This is a truly insensitive thread ! 

Had it been a passenger it would be headline news .... so sad that crew members are so dispensable both for royal carribean company and its customers !

You've probably seen the old scenarios where  a story is passed around a circle and changes quite a bit in that circle, that is especially true on cruise ships with crew members.

I'm not sure you read my message as intended.  It was referring to the discussion of why the FBI would be involved.  My thought was some crew members not being American citizens might not know the difference between the FBI, Coast Guard, or SPCA.
