aliaschief Posted December 18, 2018 #1076 Share Posted December 18, 2018 Just a big thank you for all the great reporting and countless hours of responding to our inquisitive nature on the ship. A standing ovation!👏🏻
0bnxshs Posted December 18, 2018 #1077 Share Posted December 18, 2018 Thanks to all the posters here from the NS, I now have a much better idea of what to expect on our January cruise on her. You've all done a wonderful job of answering questions and posting photos!
dfish Posted December 18, 2018 #1078 Share Posted December 18, 2018 I will truly miss this each morning. Thank you for your efforts and allowing us to learn about the Nieuw Statendam along with you.
Dismomx5 Posted December 18, 2018 #1079 Share Posted December 18, 2018 Thanks from Ontario! We're on the Nieuw Statendam in October. I shall take your comments about getting to Rome more that a couple of days early to heart. For some reason, that piece has me anxious....choosing the hotel and getting around Rome. But, I can hardly wait!
Rare Vict0riann Posted December 18, 2018 Author #1080 Share Posted December 18, 2018 We were having coffee, guess where; in the Dutch Cafe, and Captain Albert stopped by. While we were chatting, Captain Sybe de Boer joined in and they both stayed for a few minutes. Both of them are very interesting. Lunchtime food porn: Dive In Cannonball burger with frizzled onions instead of caramelized and two two scoops of gelato - pistachio and amarena cherry with butterfinger topping. Yum!
Rare goldengatecruisers Posted December 18, 2018 #1081 Share Posted December 18, 2018 OK - that burger looks delicious :) One final question for anyone on board. When I looked at the new beverage lists posted I did not see Nicholas Feuillate champagne. On my last HAL cruise last year it was included in the Elite Package and we really enjoyed having a glass of champagne (admittedly almost daily!!!!). From the list posted I only see Veuve Cliquot which, although delicious and superior to Feuillate, is priced at $18 and therefore not included in the package. Is Nicholas Feuillate still offered as a champagne and is it still priced within the $15 limit? Keeping my fingers crossed that Nieuw Statendam will have a decent champagne that falls within the Elite package. Have a safe trip home everyone and to those staying on continue to enjoy the short 4 night cruise.
Fouremco Posted December 18, 2018 #1082 Share Posted December 18, 2018 To Ann, Sherita and the many other contributors to this wonderful thread, a huge "thank you!" This definitely gets my vote for "Thread of the Year".

I think I will do the Elite package on board. Adding my thanks, once more, for the wonderful posters who gave of their time during their cruise to help us all understand Nieuw Statendam. I'm sure Kazu is correct, she has done the packages, and I haven't. I will confirm though with our wine steward in the Tamarind tonight - not that I think for a minute that she will know all about it. Thank you for reading along with us, and have a great cruise yourself on the Nieuw Statendam. I 'll check on the champagne situation, too. Looking at the Where & When for this first day at sea, I could not find any cooking demos. Did they swap this for the galley tour for today? Just wondering if those will be included and at what times. TIA So going back to my post from 12/6, I am still confused as to the America's Test Kitchen demos. I scouted all the "When & Where" schedules and all I could find for the food demos were at 1pm and held in the World Theater. Does this mean that the Culinary Arts Center has been totally converted to accommodate Club Orange and that all of those wonderful America's Test Kitchen demonstrations that used to have their own venue are held in the theater? I want to thank you Ann, Sharita and Btimmer for all the information and beautiful pictures you posted during your cruise. I know it's a labor of love and one that can be quite costly with the internet access faltering and $$$ spent. If some of you are still on board, looking forward to meeting you at the M&M this Thursday at 1100 am. When the new kitchen setup is installed in Fort Lauderdale, I believe the classes will be in the BBKing's area. There is still a kitchen in Club Orange, so you never know, one day the classes may be back there.

So sorry to see it's no longer deemed that important. Did you attend any of the cooking demos and did you enjoy them as much if they had been in that small kitchen set up? Unless business picks up in there, they might be looking to convert it to something else altogether. But I don’t see why they couldn’t hold ATK in there in the afternoons. I attended a couple of them in the World Stage. They were fine except that there was no overhead camera so we couldn’t see nearly as well as when they were held in the CAC and even in the Wajang on older ships. And they don’t let you come up to where they prepare the food at the end - the demonstrator just walks off the stage. Just this afternoon, the Test Kitchen demo chef said the rest of equipment (cameras, etc.) for his kitchen will be on board in Florida. It will be installed in the World Theater. The sessions are interesting in that there is video with chefs at the headquarters in Boston as well as the live demo on stage.
