CALLING ALL SMOKERS GOING ON THE EDGE!!

We love Celebrity, but their anti-smoking mentality probably means our Edge cruise is our last with them.  DH has been a smoker (pipes & cigars) for over 50 years. I gave up getting him to quit, and he doesn't bother me when I drink (alcohol is also bad for you, but nobody says anything about that as most everyone drinks!)  Just got off a RCI cruise to Cuba, and of course alot were enjoying their cuban cigars!  Carnival just upgraded their smoking area on Mexican cruises, and it was used all the time.  I hate the smoking and the smell, but want him to have as good a time on a cruise as I do.  Celebrity take note-  Smokers $ are as good as non-smokers $!  It is not that hard to have a convenient area for smokers.  If you hate smoke, just stay away from that area.

Hi!

Thank you so much for your comments.  I was feeling quite lonely here.

Cheers and Happy Holidays

I don't understand why cruise lines don't make smoking cubes, like there use to be at some airports.  It can be plexiglass, with decent ventilation and a door that automatically closes, so that smokers and the smoke stays in the cube.  If the cruise lines did this, there would be very little smoke smell anywhere by the smoking cube.

The dollar might be the same, however a lot of non-smokers will avoid cruise lines that have permissive smoking policies and there are a lot more non-smokers than smokers these days. In the US the percentage of smokers in around 15.5% down 5% in just the last 10 years.

Hi!

Let me assure you that I do not smoke in my cabin or on the balcony.  Not in my room long enough ....late to bed and very early riser....not one moment to waste while on the ship!  LOL!

I agree, I don't like the policy of smoking in the casino on Princess.  I would rather go take some air and smoke outside.

Happy Holidays

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that you break the smoking rules. Thank you so much for being considerate of others.

Happy Holidays to you also 🙂

Michaels was originally a beautiful  upscale cigar bar. Other cruise lines like  Cunard have them too.

X did not want to create  a classy space with good air scrubbers. Not part of their program..

I do not smoke but dh likes his cigar and scotch..so he is looking forward to a nice spot.. wherever it is located.

Hope it is covered in case of rain.

All the cruise lines will end up with a policy like the current Celebrity policy. Celebrity just got there first.

This subject has beaten like a government mule but I would like to add my two cents.

I am smoker of cigars only.

I respect the rights of non smokers as you should respect the rights of those who do smoke.

Yes, smokers are the minority, but, smoking has not been made illegal or banned.

I myself as a smoker appreciate the space that is afforded to smokers on Celebrity.

It could be worse and not have a smoking area.

Smokers don’t have any rights! Employers can even deny smokers employment. Smoking can be banned anywhere. No business has to provide smokers a place.  Again I think at this time that Celebrity should provide a smoking area....for cigarettes. Cigars though should not be provided a space. They are foul.

I don't smoke, never have, but I love people that preach inclusiveness and understanding and equality EXCEPT when you don't agree with them.   That is called bulling which they are also against EXCEPT when you don't agree with them

THEN bulling, deviceness, and my way or no way are totally acceptable.  So force the world to conform to your way while you pretend to be inclusive.

????? No one is bullying anyone.  Agreeing and disagreeing on these posts is just called a difference of opinion.

Sorry, that you didn't understand my comment about Disney.  Disney has compromised.  The balconies are much more heavily used during the day than at night.  Smoking on the Promenade level has the potential to affect balcony cabins above the smoking area.  Having a portion of the Promenade open for smoking in the evening allows smoker to more easily smoke before or after dinner, while they are at evening entertainment or just when they are out for an evening drink.  It's a compromise when most people on balconies would not be affected.  But based on comments that I've seen on this thread, it's apparent that some people on this board want no part of any compromise.  I just didn't want to hear from them.

I think one difference between Disney and Celebrity is children and families, so I'm not sure this would work on Celebrity.  Possibly the families on Disney don't use their balcony in the evening hours, but on Celebrity, I believe many do enjoy their balconies in the evening.  If Celebrity would do this, they would have to start it so late that it probably wouldn't work for most smokers, since I believe it would have to start after say 11:00pm.

Either Celebrity did not think out the smoking areas in the design or the design was purposeful.

They did not think it through.  It was originally on 5, they got complaints and moved it to 14 Port, got complaints and moved it to 14 Starboard.  We'll see if they move it again, since it's now on the route from the pool to the forward hot tub and just above the Mast Grill.

How can you equate drinking alcohol with smoking? If you drink I don't smell it. If someone smokes and it is in my area I am forced to smell it and it is disgusting.  I have hated the smell of cigarette smoke since I was a child forced to live in a home with a parent who smoked 2 or 3 packs a day. It was like torture to me. I would not go on a ship if there were more liberal smoking policies. It is bad enough these days that you can hardly even walk inside a building without overwhelmed with the smoke from those who cannot smoke inside. I still have to walk through it.   Smokers do not seem to know how horrible it smells. It gets into hair, clothing and furniture. I hate when I just washed my hair and I have to walk through a hallway where smokers are congregated.  Please you have your area up on the 14th floor in the open air.

Now where exactly have I ever equated smoking to drinking alcohol.  I think you meant to reply to a post written by someone else.  Probably the person I responded to. So you might make sure you are responding to the proper post.

as you see above I took it as a response to my post because your posting quoted my post. so your sorry comment should not be how I took it, but instead that you responded to my response instead of the original message.

I apologize. I should have found the original post and responded there. I just saw where you had responded and quoted that one thinking all would be quoted. There was no offense intended and don't quite understand how angry you appear to be.

People generally don’t want words or opinions attributed to themselves that are not theirs. Pointing out the mistaken attribution was understandable and I think in this instance necessary.

I think a moderator should delete the misattributed post or correct the attribution.

Good Morning Fellow Cruisers!

Oh My goodness!  What is going on?  Why is everyone so angry?  This was definitely not the purpose of this thread.

We all have one thing in common, the love of cruising!  So, we SMOKERS will smoke in our designated areas and all you NON SMOKERS could have almost the entire ship! We will all enjoy our cruises and be grateful that we are even able to cruise.
