NCL Lied to me 3 times!!!

On 11/29/18 I booked my cruise on Breakaway out of Miami for an August sailing.  Two days prior, I spoke to an NCL agent who told me that I had 60 days to transfer my booking to my travel agent if I chose to.  I was waiting to find out if I made a bonus through work, which equated to a hefty travel voucher which had to be booked through my travel agent.  Me, just being me jumped the gun and booked because it kept saying that this is the last day for $50 deposits and the free airfare etc.....

Two days later, back on 11/29, I spoke to a woman named Angel (not with NCL anymore), and she assured me I had 60 days, and I specifically remembered the date 1/29/19 to have it sent to my agent, so I would be able to wait to see if there were any Christmas or New Years sales, but to no avail, there were no sales...I ended up booking with Angel.

On 12/30/18, the prices went up, and I'm glad I booked when I did, and decided to go ahead and get the process rolling to my agency. While looking online, I see on the website it was only 30 days, and I start freaking out!  I get on the phone, couldn't get to "Angel", and got someone else on the line who said to start the paperwork, and it shouldn't be a problem....Luckily, I got her extension, and in the end, she saved the day.  Meanwhile, while on the line with another guy in that dept, he told me that I was 200+ days out from my sailing, and any time after 30 days after booking, I could get it over to th agency, all while he thought I was interrupting him and hung up on me when I didn't say a word (with my 15 year old son as my witness!)

Bottom line, that one woman, named Tee, helped me out and got it taken care of.  I was hoping they'd offer me some sort of compensation for being lied to, spending countless hours on the phone (mostly on hold) and having my TA also go through the same BS.  I would've like a couple bucks in OBC, but I guess I should be happy they ended up transferring the reservation instead of canceling and rebooking which would've cost me a minimum of $160 total for both rooms...

Just my gripe, but seems like nobody is on the same page over there and was an extremely frustrating process....Now the LONG wait til my cruise!!!!!!!!

long wait: I think we are all seeing that with business right now and it is very annoying. I just had it happen when I was trying to check on a bill I did not owe. Hubby had it with a bank the other day and you with NCL. As for offering you compensation? Nope, that you are not entitled to but I understand your rant and it is good for all of us just to get things off your chest from time to time. Now, just sit back and enjoy your cruise. Try and forget about the bad start.

Just an observation...

People who cultivate a good business relationship with their travel agent or PCC (whichever they choose to use) don't seem to be the ones who are on here (and other social media sites) reporting these types of problems.

The problems...especially "long hold times"...seem to be connected to the cruisers who book themselves through the website and/or simply call the 1-800 number to get customer service from whichever random person happens to get their call.

Time and time again: Develop a relationship with a trained and reputable travel agent or PCC and work directly with them. It will pay off for you repeatedly. They are more knowledgeable than the random 1-800 person. With a direct line/extension you can get straight to them without waiting on hold. While you may get the same price, you will never get a better price booking yourself.

You are right: we quite often book our next cruise on line, simply tell our agent when we get back home and never have a problem. As for NCL saying a promo is expiring or any other company saying something similar, this happens daily. Just look at the ads on TV: sale ending soon or Labor day sale in progress when labor day was over 4 weeks before..

Yes but PCCs are not the people in the call center who randomly answer the 800 number.

Funny you say this.... last night when I called the 1-800 number for help booking my July cruise (I wanted 2 connecting cabins and didn't want to risk being committed to one with the other becoming unavailable in the process), the person who answered the phone was in fact a cruise consultant who happened to be helping with the phones that night because they were inundated with calls. He said he normally doesn't answer at the call center, but was helping out and will now be my actual CC going forward for this trip.

So.... it does happen. More proof for the point made earlier that not everything is black & white or one way or the other.

Sounds like you got your compensation. You got a 160 bucks.

Why didn't you just book with your travel agent to start with?

The OP was gaming the system trying to lock in a price until they go their bonus travel voucher to use with a TA.

At the end of the day, the OP looked up the information themselves and got the right answer. Not sure why they didn’t start there.

Who is lying again? Next time, make an effort and  do some research first before you point fingers.

For those who don't know, GlassDoor.com is a site that takes company reviews from employees who self-report their position and salary, and comment on the work environment, benefits, etc. The salaries listed are from the employees of the company. RCL, Celebrity, Carnival and NCL are all listed on GlassDoor with the salaries for various positions.

Why is it that most CC threads spend the first 2-3 postings on topic and then degrade into name-calling of “I’m right, you’re wrong” and the two sides never let it go.

Life is not a zero-sum game where for you to “win”, someone else has to “lose”.

I swear, for many people on here CC is a social event, not information sharing.

Sure, you're entitled to some OBC... Honestly, they should've offered you the cruise for free. Maybe throw in free groceries for a year and send someone out to clean your home twice a week.

Ever hear of the expression "No harm, no foul?"

Entitled much??? (I used three question marks because that, like your use of exclamation points,  adds legitimacy to the comment.)

OP confused misinformed with lie.  With "lie" there is intent to mislead.  With "misinform" there is lack of knowledge.

Unfortunately too many reps, at NCL and other organizations, do not have all the answers or think they have the answer where, in fact, they don't.

If you don't get something in writing....call back 2 or 3 time....just to "make sure".

Well, thanks for all the flames, I see it's truly a very critical group on here.  My point is, there were 3 people I spoke to, 2 of which gave me the same info, so why should I research it more, when I assume that since these two "PCC's" gave the same info?  Then after the fact, another idiot gave me the total opposite info.

Bottom line, I did get what I wanted, what I was told I should get.  I was just letting people on here know that maybe you shouldn't make the same mistake I made and book directly with NCL because you never know what info you'd get.

Keep flaming, keep with the criticism, and have a great day.

Crowd can be tough at times...but you gotta admit, you somewhat asked for it.

Enjoy the cruise.

I did call once, then again when booked.  Why would I NOT believe the "misinformation" as maybe I should have put it...

I am not going to bet my life on this, but I think this happened fairly recently with NCL (it's which cruise line that's blurry in my memory).

The rep at the cruiseline told me "60 days".  The TA told me that it's "30 days".  The TA said the cruiseline allows 60 days for the transfer but, they at his travel agency said it had to be within 30 days.  He said some TAs have different policies and allow 60 days.  (I am aware that someone posted a 30 day policy.)  There may have been some sort of miscommunication.  Maybe your TA only allowed 30 days.

The point is that when you title a post “NCL Lied to Me 3 Time” and it turns out that they were all honest mistakes because you were gaming the system, people are going to react.

No one LIED to you. You were intentionally trying to lead the person on the phone to say something in your favor. Right? If the poor, minimum wage call center person can’t figure out how to enter your obscure question into their computer, it is easier to say “yup, sure, 60 days, whatever you say” than to argue with you. Give the poor, hardworking call center people a break.

I always look look up information I need and not rely on some “expert” at the call center or on cruise critic for an answer. Just because it is on the internet, does not make it true. On an average day, 30% of the information posted on these forums is incorrect or only partially correct. You do realize that?

Had nothing to do with my TA.  She was the one who was waiting for me to hand it to her, as soon as I got my travel voucher bonus through work.  It was the two "PCC's" who gave me the same incorrect info..

I never tried to "lead" anyone into saying anything.  I was upfront and honest with the people I spoke with.  They both said I had 60 days from the date of booking, which made me put a note in my calendar for 1/29, which would've been 60 days.

I know these people work on commission, as do I, which is why I was blatently honest about my intent on handing over to my TA once I had confirmation
