My Mother (smoker) and I cruised HAL a lot.  Noordam was a FAV!! Great Ship. IMHO where ever smokers are << They have the Most FUN!!  Its my favorite place on ship Aft smoking part/half of the area near the BAR!! 👍❤️

Agree.. I don't smoke, but DW does. So you'll find both of us hanging out at the deck 9 aft smoking area near the seaview bar, where the FUN people are! 🙂

I agree with you both 100%.

My husband was a smoker. He passed a couple of years ago and I'm thinking that when I next cruise alone I might go sit in the smoking area on the aft Lido deck just to meet the friendly people.

We've met and kept in touch with many wonderful people.

Absolutely! 100% I have made many friends and still keep in touch today!  So much Fun! so many fond memories/good times!  laughed so much! I cried. lol  I definitely think if you are traveling solo that part of the ship is where you will meet the most friendly people! 🙂

When my husband and I cruise, we usually have friends/family tagging along with us.  However, this past March, we cruised without anybody else on the Rotterdam.  We do both smoke, so we spent the majority of our time at the aft pool.  We met so many wonderful people, and wherever we sat, our "regular" friends would sit with us.  We had the same group too whenever there was music trivia.   In fact, we became very fond of another older couple.  We just truly enjoyed our time spent with them and even went to dinner with them one evening for our specialty dinner.  We exchanged numbers and email addresses, and are now going to cruise with them again this Jan. on the Nieuw Statendam.  LOVED our Holland Rotterdam cruise!!!!  Great bunch of friendly people at that aft pool area!

• Casino-smoking is allowed in designated areas for active players only and only when outside of 12NM from the Netherlands

I can't find HAL's smoking policy on their website.  I thought I read somewhere recently that smoking was not allowed on HAL ships except in outside designated areas.

Thanks Pools for that link.  Was planning to book the Nieuw Statendam but will switch to Celebrity.  I guess the smoking ban imposed during Covid was lifted.

YW.  If you're a non-smoker, Celebrity certainly does have a very good smoking policy that eliminates smoking from all indoor areas.  You may want to avoid cabins that are above smoking areas on the Promenade deck.

Currently on the Rotterdam, sailing the Norwegian fjords, with majority Europeans/Dutch. Sea View Bar smoking section are always packed with nice friendly vapes, cigarette & cigar Smokers...

Yes, the gift shop sells single cartons.  They usually only have name brands and discounts on buying 3 or 5 cartons in a bundle.

Rotterdam: if we are in an OV room one floor above the casino, near the front elevator/stairs, would we smell smoke in the hallway/elevator area drifting up from the floor below? I am somewhat sensitive to smoke/asthma. But, don't want to overreact if its not an issue. There are very few rooms left and there is a good one in that location.

I posted a reply about stopping smoking in 83 with the help of a hypnotist and now its been taken down, THAT WAS IN 83 and cartons were $6, not that hard to stop. Smoked 1.5 to 2 packs a day not had one since 83.
