t4jes Posted January 9, 2019 #1 Share Posted January 9, 2019 Is there any reason why one should buy Cruise Cash Bar vs just regular Cruise Cash? As far as I can tell, Cruise Cash can be used anywhere, where as Cruise Cash Bar can only be used on drinks. Wouldn't it just be easier to get Cruise Cash for everything? PalmTree601 Posted January 9, 2019 #2 Share Posted January 9, 2019 If you want some kind of pre-payment personally I'd get Carnival gift cards if anything, because they are refundable (back to gift card) if you don't use it. As I understand it, Cruise Cash is not refundable (use it or lose it).
Djptcp Posted January 9, 2019 #3 Share Posted January 9, 2019 I would say Cruise Cash is better than Cruise Cash Bar because you can use it for much more than just bar drinks. I also agree with PalmTree601 about the Carnival gift cards. We buy them at a discounted rate through AARP - we pay $90 for each $100 gift card and what you don't spend is refundable. Rare sparks1093 Posted January 9, 2019 #4 Share Posted January 9, 2019 We budgeted a certain amount for drinks and having that amount in Cruise Cash Bar was convenient, especially since the amount of Cruise Cash is limited.
Purvis1231 Posted January 9, 2019 #5 Share Posted January 9, 2019 Gift cards are a good idea-on our last cruise we bought Cruise Cash with the gift cards before we sail so we could have it available onboarding. Do not worry about Cruise Cash being no-refundable since you will spend it- if not you can cash it out in the casino.
Florings Posted January 9, 2019 #6 Share Posted January 9, 2019 Definitely standard Cruise Cash - you can use it for everything. And you can cash it out in the casino on the last day if there is anything left.
Schoifmom Posted January 9, 2019 #7 Share Posted January 9, 2019 The only reason that I can see to purchase Cruise Cash-Bar is the $500 limit per cabin per type of Cruise Cash. If someone was terribly insistent on purchasing Cruise Cash (or someone purchased it for them), and had purchased their limit of general Cruise Cash, the only recourse would then be to purchase another type. Personally, I wouldn't, because you can't cash out the Bar Cruise Cash if you don't use it all.

I would agree; however, the unforeseen does happen. Someone gets sick, hurt, or simply overestimates how much they will drink.
Joebucks Posted January 9, 2019 #10 Share Posted January 9, 2019 (edited) The difference between cruise cash vs cruise bar cash is similar to normal payment vs cruise cash. Siphoning your money to help budget. Edited January 9, 2019 by Joebucks
MT_Sea_Cruisers Posted February 13, 2019 #11 Share Posted February 13, 2019 We usually purchase the limit for each category (Cruise Cash and Bar Cash) for a 7 or 8 day cruise. We generally book our cruises a year in advance and I like to purchase during the year before we cruise is small increments. It's just a nice way for us to get on that ship and have a carefree vacation that has been all prepaid. It does not make sense for us to purchase the cheers package (since you have to purchase for both people in your cabin), however we have never had any issue in spending our Bar Cash. If we happen to have cruise cash left over towards then end of our sailing, we put it on a slot machine, play a bit then cash out. On the Carnival Dream I did this and actually won a jackpot for $3,800! All-in-all it really just boils down to how you want to manage your money . . . Myself, I don't like to see a credit card bill for $1,000 after vacation so paying before hand just makes the vacation more enjoyable for me.
dani85bri06 Posted February 13, 2019 #12 Share Posted February 13, 2019 You can get it off at the casino if it is cruise cash opposed to bar cash. Go load it onto a machine, spin a few times, then cash out.

If you have money in both Cruise Cash and Bar Cash how do you designate the account you prefer to use first?

Chefaleslie Posted May 2, 2019 #17 Share Posted May 2, 2019 So if you buy a $90 carnival gift card from AARP you can cash it out in the casino for $100?

Do I have to use it at the casino initially (i.e. a few slot pulls) or can I cash out immediately without having played on it.

You will need to do a couple of pulls. If you don't, they will know it and may cut off your ability to cash out.
cruzzza Posted May 9, 2019 #21 Share Posted May 9, 2019 With the Carnival MC, the redemption value is better when redeeming for Bar cash rather than Cruise cash. That's one reason why I plan on putting some Bar cash on the next cruise rather than general cruise cash.
ALWAYS CRUZIN Posted May 9, 2019 #22 Share Posted May 9, 2019 I have both on an up and coming cruise. OBC plus $50.00 bar credit. I was told I can use that towards a soda package once on board.
