GA Dave Posted January 20, 2019 #26 Share Posted January 20, 2019 Just an FYI: I noticed they changed to a new Passion Fruit Liquor in the Rebellious Fish. I checked out the price, as I love to make these drinks at home. The one they list now is $33 for a 750 mil bottle. The Russian Standard vodka cost me almost $40 for a bottle. Plus, it has Cointreau ($30+) and Prosecco in it. Add it all up, the price (IMHO) is not out of line for a high-end bar experience.

I do wish they would make these fresh though. That would be a true high end bar experience. I guess the high volume of customers and the time it takes to make the drink makes it tough to make them to order.

We are spending a lot of money on this cruise and are disappointed that the cost of so many things has gone up (carts, laser tag, drinks, etc.) I am looking forward to the cruise, but I was looking forward to not having a high bill at the end, well now I can’t enjoy it the same way- $18 for a grey goose cocktail is ridiculous. As a point of comparison, Per Se is one of the most expensive restaurants in NYC with a tasting menu at $355 a head. Their cost of a grey goose cocktail is $20... NCL shouldn’t be charging the same price. I imagine that soon the cost of the service charge will be $40/day and the only options will come from a plastic bottle or bag of wine. 1

Walmart's success is due to their very low prices. Lots of minimum wage employees in our country that have to make every cent count. Not really an accurate comparison. Paelos Posted January 24, 2019 #39 Share Posted January 24, 2019 I'll never understand Vodka drinkers, so complaining about one over the other to me is strange. To me the bad ones taste like rubbing alcohol, the good ones taste like next to nothing. If you're mixing it with anything I can't see how you'd notice the difference. If it's in a martini, fair enough. I get the bourbon complaint, but we all know what really good bourbon costs so I'm not shocked they want to faze out that cost issue. On a cruise I'm mostly hitting up rum and tequila drinks, and when I'm mixing thing in them with high sugars, I can barely notice a difference on either. Gin is the one I'd be mad about since those are mainly in my martinis and there's a huge gap between Beefeater and Hendricks. However, Bombay Sapphire is still on there so that's acceptable. If they took that off, well that would suck.
DrankDrinkDrunk94 Posted January 25, 2019 #40 Share Posted January 25, 2019 So a Jack and coke is under or over 15.00 now? I see Jack Black label is 14.95, so does the splash of coke throw it over 15.00?

I hear ya... but as far as I know (from my previous Haven cruise in November) they only charge you the portion over $15 if you have the UBP. $2/drink isn't gonna give you a high bill at the end of your cruise and if you're in the Haven... you probably have some OBC anyways. Also, I was drinking Woodford on my last cruise and gave a tip every drink. I think I was charged about half the time for the upcharge. I could be wrong because I wasn't paying close attention but that's what I recall. The Haven is so small, you'll know the bartenders before you go to bed on Sunday. They'll take good care of you. 4774Papa Posted January 25, 2019 #48 Share Posted January 25, 2019 I resent being called a cheapskate because I look for value when I pick a cruise. Fortunately, there are many cruise lines and competition is about the only thing that keeps the overall price reasonable. Price bundling by NCL has made it difficult to book with them, except in the rare cases where you don't have to pay for the expensive, overpriced, overrated beverage packages. Royal C doesn't price bundle and I am finding them more competitive. We booked with Royal for our Norway Arctic Circle in June.
sparkmaster Posted January 25, 2019 #49 Share Posted January 25, 2019 Some of the decisions made on the liquor list do strike me as quite peculiar. Rolling Johnnie Walker Black above the UBP threshold but moving Jameson Caskmates down to the included level? 23 minutes ago, Georgie562 said: Those are some hefty overly inflated prices 🤮 A soda on Princess $2 A soda on NCL $3.45 What am I missing here ? I can’t imagine Pepsi products costing so much to NCL NCL is trying to be clever by inflating standard drink prices to move people onto their booking categories that include a perk, which usually ends up being the UBP. It's clever and original for the cruise market.
