There is no problem, at all, if you do not have a SmartPhone, or do not care to use the SmartPhone to interface with the Medallion.

The Medallion can work exactly like the key cards work--they can be used for boarding or leaving the ship, they can open your cabin door, and they can be used for shipboard purchases.  No SmartPhone required.

No personal information is stored on the Medallion.  The only thing stored on the Medallion is a code which identifies itself to the ship's various readers--just like the key cards.

Now, you have been reading about people downloading an app into their SmartPhone and futzing with it.  This is totally optional.  For example, let's say you are lounging by the pool and decide that you could use a drink.  You really don't want to leave your comfortable lounger, and you are now so thirsty you don't want to wait for a server to walk by to take your order.  If you have set up your SmartPhone to work with your Medallion, you can pull it out, order a drink and a server will bring it to you.  By doing so you have reduced the time it takes to get your drink by, at least, three or four minutes.

Again. information that is entered into the SmartPhone app is not stored on the Medallion  It is stored on some Princess system.  Now, consider that even with the current system you and I are keying in our passport number and our credit card number into the Princess system via the Cruise Personalizer.  It's a very similar concept.

Thanks for the explanation, I appreciate it.  I am willing to enter my passport and credit card number via the Cruise Personalizer into the computer since I have a security software in place just not through a phone which I don't feel is safe.

Still have to use the cruise card for casino? I suppose. As it is now, you insert your cruise card and then download money to the machine from your onboard account. How does Medallion fit in?

The machines are being retrofitted to allow you to place your medallion against a reader, the same way you would slide your card into a slot. The tables are also set up with a reader.

I will be cruising on the Royal in June.  What if I don't have a "Smart Phone?"  My second thought would be, even if I did have a Smart Phone, I wouldn't feel comfortable downloading passport info or other sensitive information into it.  Do I have to use the Medallion?

The info isn't stored on your cell phone but on their computer system.

From what I was told this week, there won't be an option to use a cruise card, although that's not what they originally said.

Floridalover5623,  Princess told you that they won't be using cruise card for any ships; or they plan on eliminating the cruise card once they get the program working without all the glitches?

Does the new Wi-Fi allow for streaming and video calling/FaceTime?

Per Princess Website

You can download similar security for your phone.

Right, I was looking for an actual experience with someone’s use of the medallionNet Wi-Fi. What Princess says isn’t always so.

When will Medallion be available on the Ruby Princess?  Last I heard was Jan 2019.

Latest reports do not include the Ruby Princess.

Is there a list of all Princess ships with the status of Medallion completion?

I’ve only seen future availability by email & news releases.

The Princess MedallionClass webpage doesn’t list any future implementation dates probably due to their inability to meet past deadlines.  When that happened they provided some type of compensation to upset passengers so now they’re more cautious about promoting rollout dates.

At the bottom on the page is a link to current MC cruises which were only on the Caribbean & Regal the last time I checked.  Princess has stated the Royal will have it in April however none of the Royal’s cruises are currently listed as MedallionClass.

I would have rather they spent all the millions they spent on this on increasing food quality. I would rather have that then be able to open my door 1 second quicker.

By the time this is deployed on all the ships, the technology will be outdated.

The link indicates that MedallionNet has been implemented on the Ruby, but no indication of when full Medallion Class will be implemented.

Thanks for the update...the implementation of the new system is continually changing so previous experiences can quickly be outdated.
