Rare scubacruiserx2 Posted March 7, 2019 Author #327 Share Posted March 7, 2019 Before leaving Montevideo , we noticed that we had skipped a few places . So let's return to Cape Horn before sailing to Antarctica . We were up very early near Cape Horn This monument at Cape Horn has this poem I am the albatross that awaits youAt the end of the world.I am the forgotten souls of dead marinersWho passed Cape HornFrom all the oceans of the world. But they did not dieIn the furious waves.Today they sail on my wingsToward eternity,In the last crackOf the Antarctic winds. The weather at the Cape was not very good and the Captain was making the decision of circling the Cape or making the run to Antarctica sooner than scheduled . Decision made

Rare scubacruiserx2 Posted March 10, 2019 Author #341 Share Posted March 10, 2019 We had made dinner reservations for Rudi's Sel De Mer at The Pinnacle Grill for that evening in advance thinking that it would be a night at sea . But with the good weather we decided to have dinner delivered and keep taking photos while the weather was good. The Pinnacle Grill in the Zaandam has no outside windows unlike the Eurodam's where we enjoyed window seating . Dinner for 2 back lit Our favorite Cab The sunrise for the next morning was at 02:30 and the sunset was 23:51 !
Rare scubacruiserx2 Posted March 10, 2019 Author #342 Share Posted March 10, 2019 We had a visit from some birds earlier in the afternoon and it seemed like they were sitting still or flying fast ! Maybe they didn't want to wind up on somebody's dinner plate . Cape Petrel and Wandering Albatross in the rear Cape Petrel feeding A video clip shows how fast they are :
Krazy Kruizers Posted March 10, 2019 #343 Share Posted March 10, 2019 The food looks good and the pictures are great. I don't blame you for ordering in and still be able to take pictures and admire the view. That was one thing we didn't like about the R class ships -- Pinnacle had no windows. 0bnxshs Posted March 10, 2019 #348 Share Posted March 10, 2019 I have a quick question; a member of our roll call for next January's Antarctic cruise says that on a recent cruise she had taken she was told by the FCC that Zaandam offers heavy coats to passengers for use while in cold waters. I've never heard of this but thought to ask y'all since you just recently completed this same cruise. Appreciate any information you may have regarding this. Love your photos and descriptions.
