A true service dog does not change outfits twice in a day and have a cardboard sign on the basket that says "Service Dog".  Then one of the owners in a motorized wheelchair jumps up and moves quickly to get the fresh bakery items arriving at the Cafe.

This whole things reminds me of the Miracle in the Air.  There were 8 individuals needing assistance who boarded early.   Then when the plane arrived in FLL,  these individuals were seen moving nicely UP the ramp off the plane.  No wheelchairs needed any more.  Miracle in the Air.

The post I responded to did not state it was wearing clothes nor did they say the person was in a scooter that got up quickly to get the fresh bakery items.

People will not stop thinking about themselves no matter what type of law is inacted.  There are always going to be those who decide that the law is not about them...we live in a system where entitlments are the way of life, and no one better dare say differently...we have so many laws now that are not enforced...period.  Making the laws are the easy part; enforcing them are a whole different animal...no pun intended!  I was told on this board a few years ago that there is no such thing as common sense...really...this person still posts on here today...and I must be really, really old to think that exists!

Agree with you however in this case our lawmakers created a law (ADA) that is difficult to enforce for imposters. Made even worse now because most conflate Support dogs with Service dogs

Hopefully Captain Kate will take charge and throw these people and their imposter Service/Support Animals off the ship.

What about her emotional support kitty cat?

We have seen dogs on ships even before there were discussions about them being controverisal on board. For some it's like children, who do you leave them with, how much does it cost to leave them with someone you don't know for a week or more...there are lots of creative ways to make it work on board and at no cost for the cruise guest because some people just have no integrity that way and use the system.

I don't dwell on it too much, the lack of intertiy in people is pretty overwhelming. I prefer to not get bogged down it that drama.

Really?  You're kidding?   There's lots of advantages to people having pets, but there are also other constraints.  There are additional costs and issues about their care when the owners aren't available.   But that doesn't require that the rest of the world needs to find creative ways to take care of your pets.  If you have pets board them, find a pet sitter or find your own creative solution but don't think you have a right to bring them onboard a cruise ship.  Everyone's pet is cute until it hurts someone.  Don't try to bend the rules and equate your pet with a legitimate service animal.

Your rationale and excuses for people bringing pets onboard a ship.

You are off the frigging reservation. What do you think the reasons are that people use... I just gave you a few. I board my dogs. THREE OF THEM. Do you have any idea what THAT costs? I dont think so. So just stop.

That's exactly the point.  If you choose to have 3 dogs, don't complain about the cost of boarding the dogs.  Don't try to use that cost as a reason to bring your pets on a ship.

I don't complain about it, you should learn how to read and interpet better.

But the fact remains there is a cost and fear associated with leaving pets behind, just like parents of children feel,  and I suspect that some guests find ways to avoid this reality in terms of cost and angst.

Kids can sail free and parents sure do captialize on that! I suspect that parents of dog kids are vying for a similar equality  in order for them to have their kids tag along too.

(Note peepool if you can't comprehend this simple stuff and continue to misread and antagonize me then I am going to do something about it.)

There was a dog on our Equinox cruise back in 2014 that pooped in the casino and some lady stepped in it and brought the offending shoe to the lurser’s desk and asked what they were going to do about it, and they offered to clean it. Same dog peed in someone’s cabin during a cabin crawl and pooped at the martini bar. Funny thing is, the dog was supposedly for the wife, yet the husband was the one carrying dog around all week.  Many of us were discussing  this and comparing stories on the CC board after cruise had ended. I don’t think any of us realized how many incidents and problems were created by this dog until after the cruise was over. Oh yeah, dog barked in cabin for several hours several times when  one of them wasn’t around to tend to it, too.

So sick and tired of faux “service” dogs.

I think i will ask to bring  my Emotional Support Cats onboard the next cruise.

Perhaps this is the real issue.  Children and dog kids are not the same and do not deserve equality.

We just completed our cruise on the Edge, 20 Jan - 27 Jan, and spotted a small dog being carried around by a passenger.  She took it in a small bag to a show in the theater and into the cafe!! We questioned a staff member at Guest Services and he said they have to go through a lot of paperwork to bring a dog on board and are told that some ports will not let animals off the ship. He said that there was a place on deck 5 where the dog can do their ‘business’. IMHO, I think this is setting  dangerous precedent after what has happened with the airlines.

In August of 2018 RCCL and all its brands banned ESA's (Emotional Support Animal) of any kind. Anyone who had booked before then are still allowed to bring their pets on so that's probably one of the earlier booked pets . Anyone who requested to bring one after that date was told NO, not allowed.

Service animals are still allowed (A service animal is a dog that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for a person with a disability), just no longer ESA since people were abusing the intent of the policy and taking pets on vacation with them.

Watching a service dog work is truly amazing if you've never seen it. Like a well oiled best friend/coworker helping when needed, true professionals, and grateful for those that train and work with them.

Very true, dogs are way better. Give me them over children running wild any day.

In al of the excitement, I forgot about this.  It will be interesting to see if they really enforce this policy.  So based on this policy, we can expect to see ESAs through 2020, but they should be gone after that.

That is a good first step but as I mentioned in an earlier post is we don’t know what these people are telling the cruise line.  Are they saying it’s an ESA or a service dog, if they are saying it’s a service dog the only thing they can do is get proactive and watch behavior once on board.

This cracked me up. We see this every single time we board a flight in Boston. By the time we reach Sarasota - they are all cured.

Back to the dogs - on a recent flight from Boston to Sarasota,, out of 8 dogs onboard, ours were the only 2 NOT flying as ESAs. One so called support animal was a 13 year old blind poodle; the owner was bragging about rescuing a month prior.

I'm really sick of it! (So sick and anxiety-ridden on every fliught now that I think I may need a support animal!)

Does this mean my support pit viper will or will not be allowed on the ship next time? It does a great job of clearing out chair hogs.

What more could you ask from a support animal...

  Phil.............floridacruisers..

P.S. When it dies it will make for a nice pair of shoes

We are on the Equinox and there are at least two dogs onboard. One has been petted by so many people that I am surprised it has any hair left. But that also tells me that it is not a working animal.

I do not care to step around a dog every time I enter Michael's Club, either.

That must be a truly terrible experience that could ruin the cruise.
