Last November in FLL a nice young lady escorted us aboard the CB.

Last Sunday when we boarded the Grand in SFO a young man just appeared out of the blue and asked if we wanted an escort aboard. I replied, if it gets us on board faster, then yes. And away we went. Straight to CC dining for lunch.

Great!  Just wondering if you were able to get to your cabin to leave your carry-ons  before going to CC for lunch?

Not on this particular cruise. The fire doors from the elevator lobbies to the cabin corridors remained locked until exactly 1:00 PM.

We left our carryons at the entrance to CC. In the past we’ve put the carryons next to our lunch table. Other times cabins were available before 1. Luck of the draw I suppose

We were escorted to CC dining and told our rooms would be available after lunch.  She offered to take our carry-ons to the room, but we declined.

It seems to be the norm now for suites stays leaving from San Fran.

I guess we'll see tomorrow if it holds true!

Happy cruising!

We were unable to access our suite on the CB until 1pm. Fire doors were closed. The door would alarm if opened.  We went to the DR for lunch.

You can't use the cabin as they might be finishing cleaning it but you can always drop off your luggage & then go to lunch.

No one wants to carry around their carry on luggage to the DR.

Definitely possible albeit somewhat unlikely.

Totally dependent on long how cleaning and refurbishment takes on a given deck. We’ve experienced both sets of circumstances.

I don't care if they are cleaning the cabin as long as I can dump my stuff & leave it there while I go to lunch. They never seem to mind.

As long as the fire doors aren’t shut, I’m right there with you.

It seems that recently they have been closing the fire doors, and passengers are not allowed to access their cabins until 1:00 p.m., not even to drop off carry-ons.

That was the case on 2 out of my 3 cruises last year.

Then how do you explain about people that are in-transit accessing their cabins prior to 1 PM. They're certainly allowed to open the fire doors & proceed to their cabins.

Our last 2 cruises they didn't even mention the cabins not being available until 1 PM. On one trip the room wasn't finished & we just told the crew member we were dropping our luggage off & he said, fine. On the other trip the cabin was finished.

If anyone says a word just tell them that your in-transit & going to your cabin.

The problem with that is that your steward knows who is in-transit and may challenge that statement.    Now that you have told everyone to do this, the hallways are going to be full of people dropping their luggage off.   Or people who need to use the restroom,  someone who wants to change into their swimming suit or take a picture from their balcony to post on social media.

All this making it more difficult for the steward to get his cabins cleaned and ready for the next group.

This could cause the cruise line to postpone the boarding for passengers.

Just wait until 1pm and walk right on and go to your cabin.

But I was in transit and just wanted to get rid of my suitcase.

Actually they don't know any different between the passengers unless they check each one.

Sitting on Deck 5 sipping hot chocolate and about ready to walk off. Having a few minutes, I thought I’d do the math.

Though I’m sure the numbers vary slightly, our RS told us he’s responsible for 18 cabins. This means he needs to strip, clean and make ready for the next bunch of pax all of his cabins between 8AM and 1 PM. That gives him only between 15 and 20 minutes on average to do each cabin.

Our RS knocked on our door at about 7:45. He already had beads of perspiration on his face.

Based on all of this, it occurs to me that on future cruises we will wait patiently clear of the room corridors until 1PM.

Yes, most crew does not know.  I am talking about the steward for your cabin when you get to your section.  I have been on many b2b.   Our person will call us by name.  One time I wanted to show my husband the grand suite since we had it booked for a long cruise a few months later.   We were not in there 1 minute and the steward came in and asked if we needed help.   I told him the truth and he said no problem.

Most people are honest and would never do that.   What is the big deal with holding on to your luggage while at lunch or for a hour?
