hunt182644 Posted March 23, 2019 #1 Share Posted March 23, 2019 Has anyone ever missed a port stop at Greenock due to weather. This will be an overnight stop on our 2020 August British isle cruise. Read where someone mentioned the possibility of the ship not stopping at this port due to weather. Am trying to find out if this is a common occurrence or not. majortom10 Posted March 23, 2019 #2 Share Posted March 23, 2019 Done 5 BI cruises and never once missed Greenock due to weather. Guernsey is a regular port to miss even if weather isnt bad due to tide conditions. We have also missed Dublin when the ship broke down and then on same cruise we missed Kirkwall due to weather. 2theship Posted March 23, 2019 #3 Share Posted March 23, 2019 An overnight stop in Greenock in August implies that there will be excursions that drive across Scotland to go to the Edinburgh Tattoo which is a spectacular event. We've cruised the British Isles a few times and have never missed Greenock.
cnd crsr Posted March 23, 2019 #4 Share Posted March 23, 2019 We have docked there 5 times, each and every time it was a scheduled stop for us.

We were on that one too! Caribbean Princess? Have also done 5 BI cruises and another one booked for Crown Princess this July. We always sail July/August (school holidays). No, I have never missed Greenock either. Tracey

Sailing 24th July this year, last year was also the same week on Royal. Most sailings have been last week of July and once in August (I think). Only missed one year since 2012 🙂
Rare cruisequeen4ever Posted March 23, 2019 #8 Share Posted March 23, 2019 The water was calm where we tendered in Greenock last summer. If it’s during the Tattoo, that’s the main event, so they’re gonna make every effort to ensure people get that experience.
Rare geoherb Posted March 24, 2019 #9 Share Posted March 24, 2019 Is it a true overnight or just a really late departure? When we did our British Isles cruise, the ship was scheduled to leave at 2 a.m. It ended up leaving a little bit later due to some excursion buses getting back late from the Tattoo. majortom10 Posted March 24, 2019 #10 Share Posted March 24, 2019 On 17/8 BI cruise we leave Greenock at 2am so not a true overnight stop dont know if it is the same for all BI cruises or just those in August to allow time to return to ship from the Tattoo. hunt182644 Posted March 24, 2019 Author #11 Share Posted March 24, 2019 The Aug 2020 is scheduled for a 2:am departure. Thanks to those who replied, had a person who claimed to have knowledge about this port remark hope you can make this port. The Tatoo is our main reason for this trip , certainly hoping for calm sea's.

Could you be thinking of South Queensferry? We didn't miss Greenock but we did miss Guernsey.

Greenock was a normal docking.
lstone19 Posted March 25, 2019 #14 Share Posted March 25, 2019 Greenock is all the way up the Firth of Clyde, about where the River Clyde turns into the Firth of Clyde. So it's on very protected waters. As such, very unlikely that it would be missed.
