Cruisinrog Posted May 29, 2019 #1 Share Posted May 29, 2019 Say there's a closed loop cruise from NY with a stop in Montego Bay, can someone get on the ship for the return trip to NY?
spookwife Posted May 29, 2019 #2 Share Posted May 29, 2019 Not necessarily and there is no discount. You’d have to pay full price.

Generally, no. But, rarely, it's done with prior consent from the cruise line. That is, you must contact the cruise line, before the cruise begins, and ask permission. Most of the time the answer is "no".

Aplmac Posted May 29, 2019 #5 Share Posted May 29, 2019 Carnival's Southern Caribbean cruise allows boarding at both San Juan,PR and at Bridgetown Barbados -one of very few such situations I suspect. Very lucky for those of us who live on the island! .
Aplmac Posted May 29, 2019 #6 Share Posted May 29, 2019 Generally speaking.. No, you cannot hop on at any given stop. It's not at all like the airline industry, where anywhere the plane lands you can get on and off.
evandbob Posted May 29, 2019 #7 Share Posted May 29, 2019 (edited) I joined a 10 day Journeys cruise that left Miami in Antigua on its 5th day because my Mom's funeral ( a celebration of her life as she did at 96) occurred on sailaway day. I needed prior approval and was required to bring her death certificate as proof of my failure to board the cruise from its onset. But when I boarded late in Antigua, no one at Carnival asked me for the documentation. I had no issues boarding the 2nd half of this B2B in SJU for the succeeding 11 day Journeys sailing. It proceeded as any normal B2B would. Edited May 29, 2019 by evandbob
paul929207 Posted May 29, 2019 #8 Share Posted May 29, 2019 Some cruises have more than one boarding point. Last summer, Princess had a cruise you could start in Fort Lauderdale or NYC. In either case, it ended in Dover England.

Notice the OP specified a closed loop cruise in his original question.

I would think you cannot debark in Barbados, or vice/versa, board in Barbados but not debark in SJU? Yes/no?

I would think you cannot debark in Barbados, or vice/versa, board in Barbados but not debark in SJU? Yes/no? Under normal conditions, booking a 7-day cruise (in either direction) no, you cannot disembark halfway. BUT there are odd times, every few years? when the ship gets chartered for a week or suchlike when Barbadian islanders get to buy a half-cruise only i.e. from Barbados to Puerto Rico(only) --OR-- from P.Rico to Barbados(only). Back in April 2011, such a situation presented itself and we bought both half-cruises, with a week in between to be spent in P.Rico! Luckily I had an old school friend in PR with whom we spent an enjoyable week seeing more of P.Rico than most of you ever have, or ever will! Turned out to be our best cruise holiday ever, cruising from Barbados to P.Rico, spending a week on PR and then cruise back home to Barbados! Counts as two cruises ... WAS two cruises... and we have the two cruise cards each, on record! Did I mention...Noooo flying to get anywhere..?! Hope this answers your question. Rare geoherb Posted May 29, 2019 #12 Share Posted May 29, 2019 Some people do this accidentally by missing the ship. We were on a Celebrity cruise that a lot of folks missed due to canceled flights from the northeast due to a blizzard. Many of them were able to join the cruise in St. Thomas. But if you're intending to board your cruise at a different port all along, check with the cruise line for the best answer.
