Sydney Ports update

Recommended Posts

After checking Sydney Ports RCCL has some interesting entries in 2021/2022 cruise season.

The first one is a Unnamed vessel arriving 2nd November 2021 and as a regular visitor until 7 June2022

The other interesting vessel is Voyager of the Seas showing as a regular visitor until 17 June 2022.

Is RCCL going to commence year round cruising from Australia, and basing 2 ships here year round?

(The schedule only goes up to June 2022 )

Princess is also showing that Royal Princess will be calling Sydney home in this season instead of Regal Princess

I wouldn't rely on the long term bookings too much. Sometimes a cruise line uses a ship as a placeholder then updates the booking with the actual ship once the itineraries have been finalised.

I agree that cruise lines often just use place holders, but am optimistic if they have places booked into June. It could be that they may trial a longer season here (means shorter elsewhere) and may be tied in with the proposed private island that Royal want to kit out like in the Caribbean (coco cays) with a resort/ water park, etc.

It would be nice to have RCCL here year round I’d love some more Winter options

I'd like to see Princess offering the same level of winter itineraries as they did in 2015/16. These days there is nothing. Sea is off dping long itineraries including the world cruise

Sun gets shunted all over the place but mostly away from Australia and there is no longer a third ship wintering over.

Ships go where the market is, and there's substantially less demand here in Winter. Most people don't want to cruise then.

Perhaps that is because they aren’t being offered?

The old “if you build it, they will come” -

Stands to reason

- “if you offer it, they will book it?” 🤔

I think the popularity of P&O in the winter shows people want to cruise

Looking good for cruising........

Future port bookings are not made lightly by the cruise lines. In order to secure the space they have to pay a substantial holding deposit which is non refundable.

It used to be the North Americans want to escape the cold but there’s a growing trend for escaping the heat .

Friends who used to live in Sydney, which now live in Oklahoma ,Told me the summer is becoming unbearable and they come back to Sydney in July.

There’s talk Royal Caribbean is exploring that market.

Would be grand if they explore it with some vessels here.

Especially oasis 5 being built right now.

Speculation is it will be called Melody of the seas and be Asianised

I am not so sure the asianised ships do as well as the standard set up for other cruises. Bigger Casino and smaller bars isn't the greatest for Aussies cruising.

I mainly cruise to cooler climes anyway so more winter would be lovely, something in July school holidays from Princess, Celebrity or similar would be just perfect.

Out of Sydney of course.

Hopefully they will do something smart, like make the Casino space modular and break it up for other purposes when the ship is not serving the Chinese market.
