tjc73 Posted August 4, 2019 #1 Share Posted August 4, 2019 Hi! This is my first cruise with Celebrity and just wondering if they provide lanyards for your sea pass? I know some cruise lines do and others don’t.
Happy Cruiser 6143 Posted August 4, 2019 #2 Share Posted August 4, 2019 Celebrity does not provide lanyards. However, you may purchase them in the shops on board. Or bring your own.

Rare Turtles06 Posted August 4, 2019 #5 Share Posted August 4, 2019 They don't provide lanyards -- but Guest Services will hole-punch your sea pass card for free. 🤣 (And, in fact, if you are on a "revolutionized" ship, where, I believe, RFID cards are being used now, you definitely want to have them punch the hole at GS so that the chip is not compromised.) Last summer, we took our first HAL cruise. We were pleasantly surprised at check-in to be given sea pass cards that were already hole-punched. Atwell Posted August 4, 2019 #6 Share Posted August 4, 2019 At the Guest Relations desk, they will punch a hole in your SeaPass card so you can attach your lanyard.
Rare 1025cruise Posted August 4, 2019 #7 Share Posted August 4, 2019 I have never seen a cruise line give a lanyard for free (well, the casino might). I personally don't use a lanyard so it's not a problem for me.

MJSailors Posted August 4, 2019 #9 Share Posted August 4, 2019 tjc73- I have been on several Celebrity cruises and as I recall, I didn’t notice many passengers with cruise cards on lanyards. Not that I was taking an officially poll (LOL) ,but just something that I didn’t notice. Celebrity doesn’t provide lanyards probably because the demand for them is not great. So,of course you can purchase one pre cruise or at the gift shop if you choose. Just a note for safety,I do not think it is a good idea when disembarking at a port to wear the lanyards . Although most passengers on a cruise ship are easily recognizable in a foreign port, the lanyards are a clear mark that you are a tourist. Best to leave them in a secure pocket, tote or purse. iMHO. Smeecanada- Disney provides lanyards because of their comparatively higher fares, passengers should feel as though they are getting something “free”. On a visit to Disneyworld a few years ago,we purchased park tickets at the Bonnet Creek Hilton where they attached the passes to lanyards. I kept them in my bag as we are not fans of wearing them around our necks. YMMV
Rare 1025cruise Posted August 4, 2019 #10 Share Posted August 4, 2019 I cruised DCL and did not receive a lanyard. I believe it's a gift for returning cruisers.

On the Edge in April they would not punch a hole in our card because of the chip and let us know that we could purchase lanyards with the plastic sleeve attached at the gift shop. Key West was our first port so we waited and bought the plastic sleeve lanyard there for a little less than what the ship was charging.

RCI has been using RFID cards for years on their Quantum class ships. We’ve sailed on Anthem twice — Guest Services knew exactly where to punch the hole to avoid the chip. Makes sense. I wouldn’t spend the money on a lanyard, as I would never use it for anything else and I imagine most people would feel the same. I’ve done several cruises with a Disney and they give out Lanyards. It’s just a convenient way to carry your sea pass around on the ship and not lose it or deactivate it if you carry it with your cell phone. I would never where a lanyard off the ship. Just not smart or safe as you mentioned. But once I’m off the ship and toss it in my bag the lanyard helps me locate it too! i cruises HAL once, no lanyard, but it just seemed weird to carry my purse around the ship everywhere so I had a place for my card. I would also carry it with my phone and managed to demagnetized my card almost everyday! Oh well, we are in port almost every day in this cruise so shouldn’t have to worry too much about where to put my card.
Muffinz Posted August 5, 2019 #15 Share Posted August 5, 2019 we cruised on Solstice March / April 2018 and the seapass cards already had a hole / slot punched in the top - we had purchased cheap lanyards for less that $2 NZ from a cheap gift type shop before we departed for our cruise
MJSailors Posted August 5, 2019 #16 Share Posted August 5, 2019 tjz73 When we were on the Summit about seven years ago, they gave Conceierge Class passengers a “leather” card carry case. I have used it on subsequent cruises for my cabin card and on Princess for the cards they sold for specialty coffees and gelato. I nstead of a large purse, I keep it in a small crossbody bag while on the ship as I need to carry asthma medication with me at all times. We leave our cell phones in the safe. Unfortunately, Celebrity does not offer such a case these days. On a Summit cruise last year,we were given a plastic case that was not easy to open to get to the card. It must be a cost saving plan. I must have 30 of those credit card leather cases. Not helpful for me- works for my DH. We were given the type that fastens on our phone on the Edge in December- Perhaps Celebrity only gives to suites now. I did not use the phone one as I didn't want to fasten onto my case. It wouldn't work well. Lanyards the best for me.

It wouldn't work well. Lanyards the best for me. I too have a very substantial collection of the credit card-sized leather cases; like your husband, they work really well for me... I sailed Edge to the Caribbean for a week in March and again for fifteen days on the April/May Transatlantic... As I've reported here in the past, the credit-card sized "leather" cases are [or perhaps, were] back--only difference is that they are now light gray rather than black--for the Transatlantic and were distributed, as has always been true, to guests traveling in Concierge Class, AquaClass and Suites... I don't yet know if they've been returned for distribution to guests occupying the same stateroom categories aboard other ships in the fleet... girljerk Posted August 5, 2019 #19 Share Posted August 5, 2019 I always use a lanyard. The clothes I cruise with tend not to have pockets. Celebrity has a great assortment for purchase on the shop. I have a collection of beaded ones I match with my outfits. The ones I purchased don’t require the card to be punched. When I go ashore, I put a copy of my passport in my lanyard with my sea pass. I then wear it inside my shirt so it isn’t visible. Sherri
CardRock Posted August 5, 2019 #20 Share Posted August 5, 2019 Witr the new RFID cards, I do not know if they can punch holes in them anymore. I was planning on using a lanyard in June, but ended up not using the one I brought (because I was not sure about the hole, and then because I did not feel it was necessary). All of the ones in the gift shop had the clear pocket to slip the card into. Also, as others had mentioned, there were very few folks with lanyards on the ship. Tatka Posted August 5, 2019 #22 Share Posted August 5, 2019 4 years ago we won them playing in shuffleboard tournament on Summit . They are not plastic and two sided. One side has a place for the card and another has a small pocket with a zipper. Very cool looking.

Rare cgolf1 Posted August 6, 2019 #24 Share Posted August 6, 2019 I was surprised how many sea pass cards i saw in the bottom of the pool on the edge. Guessing a lot of people forgot to take them out of their pockets before they went swimming;) Agree with everyone about Disneys prices now, but when we sailed they gave them away even when their prices were competitive with RCCL. We still use our Disney lanyards. While I understand they don’t work for all, they work very well for us.
