More Late Night Food Cuts

That where NCL outshines CCL , 24 hour sit down restaurant. Granted limited menu , but cooked to order.

I liked the late night snacks at the buffet though in reality if we grabbing something late it was usually from room service.  The new menu is certainly nothing to be excited about.  My main complaint is putting it all at the pizza place.  The line could already back up at times, this will make it much worse.

 

NCL has late night grub figured out with the sports pub theme.

Been cruisin' since the early 80s and I don't recall ever paying anything extra. Little envelopes were left on your cabin desk on the last nite for tips to those you thought deserving. A bus TOUR of Vancouver Island and the famous Buschart Gardens was even included on one cruise from LA to Vancouver.

Really? Think a little harder 😉  Photos of you and the x with the captain $$. Skeet shooting off the fantail $$. The envelopes also including one for the head waiter and another for the maitre d' plus one each for the waiter, the bus boy and the cabin steward. We older folk remember the maitre d' standing in the lobby just outside the MDR for you to hand him his envelope. Cocktails were pricey then too compared to shoreside bars and the gift shops didn't give away cartons of cigarettes and fifths of hooch for free. Spa services and art auctions, all extras. The hidden costs of cruising have been there since 1988 when we began with Carnival.

I remember back on the Holiday in 1987, they served sandwiches from the bus they had on Broadway (the Promenade deck).  I believe they had other late night food offerings around there, too (French onion soup, etc).  Of course, this was conveniently located right outside the casino and Reflections Disco.

The deli at night would be awesome, those chicken sandwiches are a major improvement over the old stuff. I always hear people raving about the hotdogs too, never had one but they could make a lot of people happy offering a skeleton menu of just a few things.

 

As a complete aside about the shooting and environment, someone used to make a soy-based “clay pigeon” in the late 90s and early naughties, haven’t seen them on the market since. Would be really cool if they’d bring back shooting and decent TV

The question was about getting food. If you include service you can say the same about the pizza lines on CCL.

 

I've not found the service to be that bad at The Local. But then again comparing bad service to torture is a stretch.

...and I thought penicillin was going to solve that problem.   I actually enjoy reminiscing about how cruising has evolved....just a little humor.  The maitre’d tipping is a significant change.  I pretty much agree with your post..It beats the my cruise line is better than yours regurgitation

Yes, I know and I still enjoy reading declarative sentences ending with a period rather than dangling................

This is not a correction of punctuation but a friendly long, ongoing banter about when making a point end with a ( period ) and be done with it.  😉

Lol, sorry could not help it.  While I agree with your view on how cruising was back then, I do not remember thinking that things were out of focus back then, pricing on drinks as an example. I also remember way back then being able to buy a bottle for your room (gift shop sale pricing vs price gouging Bon Voyage of today).  I also know why they changed it, abuse by their clients.

Quite true. Most cruise lines rightfully tightened and fine tuned as they better learned to control revenue streams. One of the early and obvious revenue losses for Carnival in our experience was being allowed to purchase liquor in port and have it delivered to our cabin while we were at the beach or touring!

This was common on west coast Mexican Riviera sailings from San Pedro. In Puerto Vallarta before beginning our day ashore we'd stop at the liquor store nearest the pier, order and pay for the booze and when we returned to the ship our packaged order was outside the door to our cabin ready to crack open and enjoy when and where we pleased on the ship. Those were the days.

The only meal that really stood out to me on my last NCL cruise was the late night Osheehans, so I think it's something Carnival needs to do better and I'd probably stay up later. As it is my time on the Elation last time the place was dead by 11pm outside of the casino so I didn't bother.
