People on CC have said that they have gotten items from the MDR that are not on the every night items in Blu. This is not the norm. If like the MDR menu you can dine in Select Dining area of the MDR. We have done this the 1st night as Blu was not serving prime rib.

We were on Infinity (M Class) in the Med in August. There was no problem ordering off of the MDR Menu. We did it every night except the one where we at at LPC. Each night we took a picture of the MDR Menu and simply ordered what we wanted that evening.

No problem on the M Class ships since MDR and Blu share the same Galley. However, the OP is taking a S Class ship where the galleys are in different locations and are far apart.

It depends on the wait staff.

Keep in mind, that there is no connection between Blu and MDR kitchen, so there must go somebody down, thru MDR, pick your meal up and walk all the way back.

Correct

On M class it is easy

For S class--the kitchens are on different decks...and it is a big "ask" to get your server to bring something.. couple of decks of escalators.

We did see folks who had a "standing order" of escargot in Blu each night--

The server confided in us he brought them up at 5:30ish to hold for them--

How was the service generally in BLU?

Lately we find BLU has been slow out of the kitchen..esp on EDGE

.Can't imagine this would help on  S and E class ships....but I understand that some nights there isn't anything that appealing,.  We usually check the menu at breakfast and usually go elsewhere if nothing stands out... have also gone to MDR first night for Prime Rib...easy to get an early res.  We do enjoy MDR Beef Wellington as well.

When we have done Aqua on the S-Class ships (4 cruises in that class) we were not able to order items from the MDR.  However,  Blu had a "secret menu"  (no longer a secret) of several items from the MDR menu that were available in Blu (they had these items in Blu's galley).  As I recall they were Shrimp Cocktail, Escargot, French Onion Soup, and Cheesecake.  There were never any main course entrees available.

  • 2 weeks later...

Last year on Eclipse, we were told can only order the "common list" of MDR items like Shrimp Cocktail, Escargot, Caesar Salad, etc.  Last month on the Equinox however, the staff did not hesitate to bring ANYTHING we wanted from the MDR.  They even had a MDR menu handy to peruse from.  As another on this forum also did, we asked for the MDR prime rib on day 1 as Blu does not have it.  It arrived cooked to order and still hot.  The staff did not seem to mind fetching MDR items at all (unlike Eclipse).  We ensured they all received extra gratuity for the outstanding service.  Our wait staff was Andy and Tatiana.
