New ship

Images of the deck plans for Queen Anne have been leaked elsewhere. I'm not at liberty to share those images, but they do confirm what has been suspected (feared) about the promenade deck. It looks quite similar to the promenade deck layout for Koningsdam. Perhaps a slightly longer open area around midships but not much.

After a bit of searching I found the deck plans (assuming they are genuine). I was hoping that a new ship would offer more accessible staterooms but there seems to be even less than on any other ship I've seen (just talking about inside cabins). I guess I'll have to book really early if I want to go on her.

This is interesting indeed.

If they’re not genuine plans, someone has creating an absolutely perfect mimicry of the Cunard style to the point of including details about sofa bed configurations. I’ll take it as final as we’re going to get - even if this is draft, the detail speaks of it being set in stone enough to justify a lot of effort.

I assumed the buffet-adjacent Indian and Mediterranean restaurants were part-time, as on the current Queens, but the architecture around them seems to be more closed off and potentially implies a permanent setup. The Pan-Asian and Grill restaurants look tiny though. As does the Britannia restaurant itself, actually, relative to the usual proportions on QE/QV/QM2.

I’m interested in what concept they’ll give the large bar adjacent to the Golden Lion (there’s already a Chart Room and Carinthia) and the ‘Drawing Room’ looks intriguing.

Infinity whirlpools for the Grills deck, lovely, but I’m surprised at the inclusion of a screen outdoors on a Cunard vessel! I shall reserve judgement though, size and use are guesswork at this point.

I know the inclusion or otherwise of a promenade deck is divisive, so I will merely note that it is gratifying to see that one can walk around a complete circuit low-down on the ship. Personally, that’s enough for me (although at six feet in height, I hope the lifeboats are mounted high)…

OK, this looks like an official pdf document of the Queen Anne deck plans that can be shared.

queen-anne-deck-plans.pdf 4.32 MB · 43 downloads

That is most interesting - and the big difference to the other three ships that we immediately notice is that the dance floor in the Queen's Room seems quite a lot smaller than that of QV and QE!  I know that the beam of QA is 35metres which is about 3 metres wider than QE/QV, but even so the length of the oval dance floor seems to be about the width of three and a bit staterooms whereas the QE/QV Queen's Room dance floor looks like being about 6 stateroom widths - so unless the rooms are significantly different in size on QA compared to QE/QV then the dance floor may be a disappointment for ballroom dance fans!  Maybe someone knows the length and width of the QA Queen's Room dance floor and can tell me I am wrong?

The lifeboat height won’t matter as you won’t be walking under them. They sit almost directly on the deck, and the narrow walkway is behind the boats.  So no view to the ocean except in a few open spots.

I took this on NIEUW STATENDAM , which is a sister ship to QA.

I had another look at the plan and used the approximate scale of the width of the ship to estimate the Queen's Room dance floor size - from the QA deck plan it looks like the floor will be around 9m x 9m but a weird oval shape which makes like difficult for the ballroom dances, though not quite as bad for Latin dances, but is is only 60% of the length of the QE/QV floor, but a little bit wider by about 5 or 6 feet. QE is approximately 93 metres squared (length 12.88m x width 7.23m)

The floor area looks to be about 75 to 80 m2 compared to QM2 117sq m or QE/QV of 93sq m.  So a significant reduction in ballroom floor space. This will not please those who can really dance.

Interesting deck plan. The deck 4 balcony's with the lifeboats has a note that during Panama Canal transit they move the lifeboats in. And some balcony's are visible from above.

Very good catch and interesting indeed.  Sounds like during a canal transit the boats will be raised up to Deck 4 to bring them tighter to the side of the ship, decreasing the overall width but totally blocking the view.  This may also mean a wider promenade deck compared to HAL’s K-dam ships but the view is still likely totally blocked by boats.

The biggest change I’ve noticed in the gym and spa have been moved to Deck 1 forward.  I’m assuming no windows.  Not sure I’ll enjoy working out with no view.

The Grills complex being directly midship may prove problematic for those not in the grills wanting to stroll forward to aft.  I’m guessing through access will be denied and you will have to go down a couple decks, then walk aft then back up.  Not ideal but we shall see.

The speciality restaurants in the buffet are likely similar in concept to Canaletto on HAL from whence the overall design originated, albeit altered throughout to a much greater degree than I was expecting.

They are likely to be partially walled off but used during the day as overflow seating for the buffet.

Oh wow… that’s a much more intrusive arrangement than I’d interpreted from the plans!

A selling point to those interested in nautical equipment, perhaps, but a poorer vista for the walker, and certainly not conducive to those who like a lounger in such a location.

Library looks a little disappointing compared to QM2's big forward-facing space, and QV and QE's double decker with spiral staircase. On QA it looks crammed into a small single level just behind the commodore club 😟

As I thought from the restaurant renders, the Britannia club is significantly bigger than on the other ships, I guess that is Cunard's solution to the open dining conundrum. That does seem to be what has displaced the library though.

Grill restaurants layout looks weird, QG very long and thin, like a (I'm sure gorgeously appointed, window-lined, high-up) corridor. Princess Grill is much larger, and Queens Grill seems to be accessed via the grills lounge which will have no view at all... Courtyard also missing, no al-fresco dining on warm weather cruises for Grill guests on this ship.

Nice to see a chart room, and apparently plentiful bar space, but also no boxes in the theatre.

I agree about the library.  Looks small and certainly no better than some other cruise lines.  I doubt there will be a librarian onboard.  Like the traditional promenade deck,, out with the old and in with the new at Cunard.

I also agree about the QG.  It's exceptionally long and narrow.  Very odd.  I'm sure it will be nice but probably not too grand considering the shape.

Here are a couple renderings.

A couple observations from the Queen Anne deck plans.

Further to the discussion of the dance floor in the Queens Room, is anyone seeing another venue with a dance floor similar to the Yacht Club/G32 night clubs/discos on the other ships? There's the suggestion of an area near the piano in the center of the Commodore Club that might serve as a tiny dance floor. Otherwise I'm not seeing much.

Also, I'm not seeing an indication of any single occupancy cabins in the Stateroom Category legend.

I also don't see any single cabins, but I'm fairly certain I read she will have them.  The single cabins on HAL's version (K-Dam ships) are on Deck 1 forward, but on QA this is where the spa is.

This area across from the Golden Lion might be a nightclub of sorts with a dance floor.  The location seems appropriate, across from the pub and just below the casino with a connecting staircase.  All the late nightlife in one spot.  There is where all the late night entertainment is on the HAL K-Dam ships as well.  Similar layout.

From the email I was sent yesterday, looks like the Britannia Restaurant chairs do not have arm rests. I do not like to sit for a long meal without arm rests.

The Queens Grill restaurant looks absolutely lovely, if indeed the colours are light green and beige. I will not be eating there, but hope to get a peek at it.

Unless of course I completely avoid Queen Anne because I do not have a promenade deck to sit on.

Ive said it before and ill repeat it again now....ugly as sin and absolutely no interest in sailing on her. The dsigners have lost the plot as far as me and my demographics go so good luck if this is the path that Cunard will be in the future, Ill stick to the Qv as long as possible,

I was prepared to give QA the benefit of the doubt and if an itinerary suited, possibly give her a whirl.

If the deck plans depicted are the reality, the Grills lounge and restaurant area and in particular QG are an absolute turn off.

No thanks.

QV for us with the occasional side trip on her sister.

I must concur. I think in days gone by we referred to them as 'carvers'.

On the odd occasion of first arriving in the Grills and an 'armless' was at the table I've always ensured our table had 'carvers' for subsequent meals..

Good morning Roscoe.

I'm at the opposite end of the scale. I'm excited at trying out this new venture by Cunard as are numerous members of my dedicated Cunard fb groups.

It will be my sixth Cunarder and I've enjoyed all as they have evolved and I see no reason to deviate from that view. All I would wish is for a reasonable Cunard experience with possibly some newer  evolving itineraries.

I've never been one to stick with the same ship in the vain hope the staff, 'who one knows you so well', will never change and, who knows, the new ship may well be my opportunity to rekindle an old love affair. 😂

With just a little bit of luck what chance a Maiden in the Maiden season?

It's interesting  how we all have different ideas. To me, the QG restaurant colours remind me of an upmarket canteen scheme. No elegance at all but then, maybe that's what the new era is about.

As to  the layout, what on earth were the  designers on when they came up with what I can only call almost strip dining!
