Embarkation - favourite spot whilst waiting for suite

Is there anything that Regent regulars would suggest we do early on boarding? 

For example on Crystal we would go to the Library and get our tickets for our preferred performance by the Crystal Magicians at Sea (audiences are limited to 15-20 people per show)  and I’d also visit the Specialty Restaurant Maitre d and make additional bookings at the two Specialty restaurants that take reservations

We have taken our list of booked excursions along to the destinations desk to check if we've made the best choices and/or if there's something we might prefer.  Occasionally, there's been a missed opportunity to capitalise on our time in a port and we've been able to fit in a second tour or switch timings to something more convenient.

Once in our suite, I check our specialty restaurant bookings so that if there's a problem, I can go to the maitre'd and adjust them (sometimes things get changed, this has happened to us.)   

 

Ditto excursions, good idea to check all your vouchers, looking for adjustments or missing ones.

If you would like to do a tour of the bridge or the galley, go to reception and ask to be put on a list for these.  If they get enough (we have always had one) you will get an invite to one or both.  This will be on a shore day so will be completing with excursions.

If I don't have a book to read I go to the library and get a book.

Check out all of the public areas on the ship.

Sadly books and I are just not a thing....I have carried some books around the world - some multiple times, and never read more than a few pages (beats drugs to assist sleeping I guess)

 

My sole use of the Library is to get Magic Castle tickets (now the Crystal Magicians at Sea programme) 

 

Now if they happen to have comfy lounge chairs I may still drop by...

Which ship are you going on?  Explorer has very comfy chairs there. Navigator has chairs that I find comfy but others have disagreed.  I haven't been on Voyager or Mariner since their last re-dos.

The library will also have copies of several national/international newspapers. (Not sure about embarkation day) If I have around 10-15 minutes between activities I will stop by and read/glance at a newspaper.

I've never noticed any bag drop-off on Regent. We normally only have one carry-on roller, and our personal items so we would not leave them anyway. I only remember having a place to drop bags before disembarking if you leave your cabin before breakfast. It was definitely not the casino on Mariner or Voyager. I'm sure it was the theater. I'll look for a drop-off next month when we embark on Voyager, but we'll still keep our hand luggage with us onboard until we have access to our cabin. It's just what we do.

On every Regent cruise we have taken there have been porters at the dock who take suitcases, put them into big bins and then get them to the ship.  These are local port staff, not RSSC crew and they expect tips.  But tip or no they are there to take your bags which then re-appear in your suite some hours later.  You do not have to bring your own luggage on board, just  your carry on - though you can give them that too if it is properly tagged and there are no valuables/breakables in it.

I thought this discussion about boarding was referring to carry ons, and what you do with them on embarkation.

We have always done transfers from the airport to the ship through Regent. Our luggage has already been put on board by Regent. We've never met any local port staff doing that so we haven't tipped them. We always carry our valuables and meds with us, and take them on the ship with us in our carry on bags. We keep those with us while going to the pool grill for lunch and drinks while we wait for our cabin to be ready.

When we got onboard Voyager there was an announcement that there was a luggage  check spot available if you wanted to leave a bag(s) there while you waited for the cabins to be ready. There was staff there to watch over the luggage at all times and you received a claim check so you could return to pick up your pieces when ready. Can't remember which lounge it was. We didn't have a roller bag and just small carryon so didn't take advantage of the service.

If you are interested in participating in exercise classes during your cruise, I suggest you go up to the gym when you board and sign up for those.  The gyms are small, and classes tend to fill up quickly.

 

After that, I head for lunch at La Veranda.
