Help! Cabin upgrade on Viking Sky and we sail in 2 days!

PV rooms come in two types, those with the slider, and those with a picture window and push out door.  We prefer the slider, so we have a list of those room and try to get one (although we had the window/door combo on the WC last year, and that was fine.)  As for the drawers in the closet, that varies by ship (unless the older ships have been retrofitted). Starting with the Sun, for the first WC, they put drawers in closets.  I hung blouses above, but as mentioned, very little room for shoes.  So I put most of my shoes in my small suitcase under the bed, and just pulled it out each morning and chose a pair.  I gave my husband the closet.  If I can get him to put them away at all, I am doing well.

There are two configurations for the PV cabin access to the balcony. Some cabins have sliders and others have a door.

I would love to be able to figure out which rooms have the sliders. The people at Viking don't seem to know. We are leaving on another trip in a few weeks and were thinking maybe we could tell by looking at the rooms from the dock.

I’m going to attach a screen shot of an answer I got off CC a few years ago.  We like deck 6 forward PV cabins, so this was helpful.  But it is all I have.  I also remember standing alongside the docked ship in Stavanger two years ago counting the rooms and sliders.  But again, both are fine.  The photo Viking shows of the PV cabins shows the window door configuration.  We just tie both curtains back when we don’t have a slider.

We were in a PV3 on Viking Sky two weeks ago - there were no drawers in the closet.  Our cabin had a slider to the veranda.  We had previously had a DV cabin and would have a hard time going back to a DV after the PV.

Yep.  We got upgraded to PV1 from DV5 on our last cruise.  The extra space is appreciated, particularly on longer cruises.  I am booking a 44 day back to back next year and upgraded us to the same cabin we had on our South American cruise last month.  We didn’t use all the drawers on that cruise, but the next one is twice as long.  It was nice to have a ‘laundry drawer’ to corral all the dirty clothes.

I noted which PV cabins have hinged doors from a previous post. We have stayed in both, no preference.

We were in 6076 on the Jan. 10 cruise.  Our cabin had a picture window and then a separate door to the balcony - no slider.

The pattern is two sliders, two doors repeating.

I believe each pair is a mirrored pair with one having the bed feet forward and the other feet aft.

Port (even numbers) and Starboard (odd numbers) are identical.

We stayed in 5021 (door; feet forward)

Verify the cabins when you book! Don’t depend on my notes and typing abilities!
The door configurations were explained as the structural ‘Bones’ of the ship.
When we booked, and our TA was on the phone with the Viking agent, we had her ask. The agent told her that all PV cabins would have a slider. We knew that was incorrect, but didn't push it because the agent was obviously clueless.

The cabins on our three Viking cruises last year (Sun, Sky, Orion) each had a push-out door.  I didn't know until I read this thread that some cabins have sliders.

Our Jupiter cabin next month is 6009, which apparently means we'll have a slider.  I'm generally agnostic on this issue, though I'm curious whether the slider, when closed, has the same soundproof seal as the push-out.  On our earlier cruises, I enjoyed opening the door into a sometimes-howling wind, and then closing the door and achieving total silence.

just_dont - it certainly appears that way (2 sliders, two doors repeating).  I hadn't noticed that.

Posted last year by someone - this document has proven valuable!  When reserving a room, Viking person even told us we weren't supposed to have that knowledge and wondered how we got it.

Here is the list of PV Sliders (again).

Seems a sliding door is more ideal than a hinged door. But its my first time in a PV...so what do I know. What do others think?
We had a door. It was fine. The window location is aside the sofa, so (possibly) easier to see out when sitting there.

Just booked our first Viking Ocean trip for April (Trade Routes) due to China River being cancelled through June. Booked a PV2 on level 5, which seems to have the window/door arrangement (5010). I can't see what major difference it will make, but I guess that I'll find out soon. Sooo looking forward to experiencing our first ocean cruise, and our first Viking Ocean trip 🙂
