We have hit 15 several times. At 15, you are not "supposed" to be able to get anymore drinks, even if you purchase them. We have had bartenders warn us ahead of time so we could purchase. But, one time when we were at 14 and tried to buy a drink, the bartender said he couln't do it because he knew we were buying drinks for each other. This only happened to us once and we had been tipping this guy all cruise. Other times I have seen cruisers use their spouses card to get more drinks when the spouse was not there. Just goes to show that all rules are subject to the bartender and that tips don't always guarantee results.

Been there...you are cut off.  When you start drinking at 10am on a sea day it is very doable especially if you are a beer drinker. They generally tell you once you get to 12, 13 or 14 that you are getting close.  There are always ways around the rules.  In this case I have given the money to someone else to buy the drink for me.

If you think you will hit 15 a few times on your trip, buy a bottle from the shops and have room drinks to fill the gap.

That's what we do and it works out just fine.  A liter is somewhere around $80-$100 but cheaper than buying drinks one by one unless you think you just need a couple for the whole trip.

Living at high altitude is a real bummer when on a cruise cuz you can drink so, so much more before being tipsy!  lol

Have a great trip!

On my last cruise both myself and a lady I was hanging out with had hit our 15 for the day and the bartender was very sweet in letting us know.  Then a gentleman came cruising up to the bar announcing he had just won a bunch of money in the casino and offered to buy us drinks, we looked at the bartender and he said that was absolutely within the rules.

I've never tried the buying at 14 to prevent hitting 15, so I cannot speak to that, but as others have said,  which bartender you have could make the difference.

I had went on a taste testing adventure one day and tried multiple types of drinks I don't normally drink. Several I just pushed back to the bartender and ordered something else, I got weird looks from fellow passengers. I had a few of the shakes with shots and an irish coffee early in the morning.  I was in no way drunk late in the evening and went to get another spiked shake, and the guy said I had my 15 limit, and asked me how I was even able to stand up, lol. He wouldn't even let me buy it on my SS card!

we hit the 15 almost every trip, as others have said once you hit 10 the number shows up on your receipt then usually the bartender will say hey you have X amount left and then on your 14th they will say you have one more. From our experience we have always been able to purchase drinks between the 14th and 15th, Although I always hit 15 my wife may get to 10 or 12 so she will give me her extras too and depending on the how well you know the bartender we've been able to buy more or even gotten free drinks past our 15th as long as you are not completely drunk.

This will be my first time using Cheers. Are you supposed to tip? I know I paid a gratuity when I purchased the program.

Bring a stack of $1 bills to tip with, I always tip at least $1 per drink to the bartender that I like, after the first day I can walk up and he or she will come straight to me and get my drink going, helps out a lot if there is a big crowd around the bar. If you tip on your S&S card its not always a guarantee that the person helping you will end up with the full amount tipped. Well that's what the last bartender told me at the casino and alchemy bar on the Inspiration.

We have hit our 15 limit many times on many cruises and yet to have a bartender allow us to purchase drinks in between, and we tip nicely. We have used our SS cards for each other however if one has more left, usually my wife... lol. You can also purchase buckets of beer via room service before reaching 15, but not after, and it will not count against your cheers. Also as others have stated you can order bottles of liquor to your room. I order a bottle of Crown before every cruise to drink in the suite. Also before hitting 15 you can purchase bottles of wine, with a cheers discount, and they will not count towards the 15 limit either. Bottom line when you hit 15 you will not be able to purchase another drink until the next morning.

This is very good to know as my husband just drinks beer and he likes them in a bucket with ice.  That’s what got me concerned because he could easily hit 15 and still walk a straight line LOL.

I always reach the 15 limit. DW usually  1 or 2 times a cruise, depending on the length of the cruise. Normally she is in the 11-12 range. She will order for me when mine is exhausted. I've been told a couple times by bartenders "your card is about done but you still have some life left on your wife's card". We are firm believers that getting to know a couple of bartenders and $1-$2 a round go a long way. Not counting our specialty coffees in the mornings, DW will have a few bottled waters and I'll have a couple of Powerades, the Cheers package is a no brainer for us!

does anyone know if they will also limit to 15 a day if paying and not on Cheers package?

Are the prices on carnival's website current?

The limit is ridiculous as it does not consider the type of drink, 15 Coors lights are a lot different that 15 Jack and Cokes..also if I order a double, will that be counted as two drinks?

Ok so...

No if you don't have Cheers, you can buy drinks till they think you're too drunk

Price of Cheers???  yes

I've always been told that 12 oz beer = 4 oz wine = 1 oz liquor, so I don't think you're argument holds up

You cannot buy doubles on Cheers (closest you can do is buy a drink, and then 5 minutes later a shot and then pour it into your drink)

You can't buy doubles on Cheers, but you can buy drinks that include more than one shot - manhattan, LIT, etc.

Do you remember if you were allowed to purchase non-alcoholic drinks (coke, ginger ale, etc), or were you completely cut off from all beverage purchases?
