I do know at one place I worked, 3 people were crammed into a little room for phone Butler duty. The lights were brutal. I had maintenance come and remove half the tubes - made it much more tolerable, vision-wise. Wearing a uniform at the time, so arms were covered. I think that was the only place i worked under flourescent lights. My red is dissipating. I won't make that mistake again. i put my sunscreen on my body before I dress or put on my bathing suit so i have less an option of missing a spot. And then I have hubby get around all the edges too. And wear a rash guard. And stay out of the sun. I'm almost paranoid now.
sjb317 Posted May 19, 2022 #5402 Share Posted May 19, 2022 We got off the cruise ship on Saturday, spent the next few days getting ready for a drive up to VA. Husband dropped me off at oldest son’s in Sutherland, close to Richmond. Husband is now on his way to Indianapolis to spend next week working at the Speedway for the Indy 500. Next week, I am catching a train up to Bristow, then spending the rest of my time at youngest son’s. Husband will pick me up after the race and we will head back toFlorida. Crazy, huh? 🙂 We did have a good time on the cruise, just quiet and relaxing. No more cruises now until September, we are doing a Celebrity cruise up the coast to Quebec and back to Boston. At least I hope, it has been cancelled twice! Love catching up on everyone’s trips, plans , health, etc. The Wildman wants to go out to play golf in the backyard again and, even though it is almost 90 degrees outside, I will go! That’s what Mimi’s are for! Sherri🙂
purduemom1 Posted May 19, 2022 #5403 Share Posted May 19, 2022 Sherri, so glad you enjoyed your cruise. Sounds like a busy time for you now with your grands but I know you are enjoying every minute-even the ones that tire you out. Yes, grandparents somehow manage to make it all work out. I bet you are anxious for the kitchen remodel to start. That can be stressful but so worth it when completed. After all the sun exposure talk, I am now carrying a small container of sunblock in my purse. Just in case….. Kat, I’m going to go back and read your description for cooking the pork tenderloins. I too have a small one from TJ’s and you made it sound so easy. Sharon
slidergirl Posted May 19, 2022 Author #5404 Share Posted May 19, 2022 Sharon - the tenderloin was really easy. I love those little tenderloins from TJ's - a good 2 meals for me. The herbs I used - oregano, rosemary, thyme, salt, pepper. And maybe a tsp of brown sugar. Smashed it all together with a spoon because i don't have a mortar/pestle. All in all i think i had maybe 2TBL of mix. Got the appointment for the ultrasound on my thyroid - monday afternoon. At least our local imaging dept, at the hospital is pretty fast - it's getting the appointment with the specialist that's hard, I haven't heard from them yet. The weather is changing again - it's cloudy and 50s, going down to high of mid-40s, maybe more freakin' snow.
awhfy Posted May 19, 2022 #5405 Share Posted May 19, 2022 Kat, weather! We’ve been bone dry & in the 90s now for over a week. Tomorrow that changes. We’re expecting the high to be 28 tomorrow thru Sunday & 8-12” of heavy concrete snow. We need the moisture but that’ll break all the trees down, sigh. We’ll bring in what we can & cover with trash cans/big pots what we can’t. Feast or famine. another idea for pork tenderloin. Sauté the pork in a little butter. Smother with a jar of bottled onions (Nellies, not martini olives) & a can of diced tomatoes, you can add a sliced bell pepper (any color) too. Lower heat, cover & simmer for an hour. Hubs likes his over mashed potatoes, I eat as is. Melody

slidergirl Posted May 20, 2022 Author #5407 Share Posted May 20, 2022 melody - good that all ya'all are getting moisture, even if it is cement! just watch out for any tulips, etc,, that have sprouted - they will get mashed down!! It's why I gave up on my flowers. And, that tenderloin recipe does sound good. never heard of those onions before - have to find some.
awhfy Posted May 20, 2022 #5408 Share Posted May 20, 2022 That recipe is my go to for company as it’s easy & pretty. Slice the tenderloin & arrange the veggies around it. snow is due to start about noon & go till Sunday morning. I’d be really happy with rain
purduemom1 Posted May 20, 2022 #5409 Share Posted May 20, 2022 OMG, Melody, snow now? Hope it doesn’t do too much damage but leaves a good amount of moisture behind. Also hope it doesn’t cause problems with your yard project. I too will have to look for those onions. Any easy recipe that works for company is a good one to have on file. Kat, thanks for the rub ingredients. Going to give it a try this weekend. Hope all turns out ok with the ultrasound. It’s also hard to get appointments around here too, especially with specialists. My doctor has told me that if I don’t hear within a few days when she has made a referral to call the specialist, facility or whatever. Her statement was “the squeaky wheel etc” Shouldn’t be this way, but around here it seems to be. Sharon

There are 2 competing health care providers, the University of Utah and Intermountain Health Care. For up here, the U rotates specialists 1 or 2 days a week and Intermountain has a very small group that also rotates. Even squeeking doesn't help much. melody - i forgot to ask: do you put the liquid from the onion jar in there, too, or just the onions? I have to go down to SLC to my dentist next week, so I might stop by TJ's again. I have to get back on the planning horse and get some restaurant reservations done. Some I can do, some I have to have a concierge to because they are phone-only. I did get my flight to CDG pushed by a day - the on-time record of the flight slc-cdg hasn't been very good on a consistant daily basis, so I decided I wanted a little padding to be able to get a train down to Marseille. now i have 2 days instead of 1 to make it down there. I was able to add a night to my hotel there, so all is good. ootd: vuori joggers and a long sleeve T. have to do a little work inside today since the weather sucks.
awhfy Posted May 20, 2022 #5411 Share Posted May 20, 2022 Nellies bottled onions, liquid & all. Get them at Walmart, Safeway, Kroger, King Soopers (probably at Publix too). You can use frozen Pearl onions too (just add at least a cup of water or white wine with frozen.
Rare Lois R Posted May 20, 2022 #5412 Share Posted May 20, 2022 Hi, I just googled the onions and I come cup with Aunt Nellie's. I knew you meant the small pearl sized onions. They are pickled. Here is a picture of one of the bottles.

awhfy Posted May 21, 2022 #5414 Share Posted May 21, 2022 Little bit of snow this morning (about 11-12” so far). Going to snow all day. Won’t last long. We really need this moisture. Melody
slidergirl Posted May 21, 2022 Author #5415 Share Posted May 21, 2022 melody - that sure looks like cement!!! But it's better than no moisture at all. We dodged the big snow - just some flurries. now it's sunny but a little brisk - in the 40s. For that tenderloin - I forgot that i had added in some TJ's Italian Sofrito Seasoning mix. it's in the spice section. Garlic, oregano, rosemary, sun-dried tomato, onion. i hadn't used it before, so i added just a little - it probably won't matter if you don't have it. Since it's cool today, I think I'm going to go out on the back patio and cut down some of the freakin' mulberry tree shoots. you can't get rid of them - you cut what is there and more show up. Far more 'invasive" than the aspen trees. OOTD: leggings and a long sleeve T and, if I do go out, a baseball hat.

purduemom1 Posted May 22, 2022 #5417 Share Posted May 22, 2022 Kat, I do have that seasoning! Hoping to give the pork loin a try tomorrow. Me,ody, from here the snow covered benches and yard decorations look quite charming. Yay for the moisture that will result. Sharon
Rare cruisemom42 Posted May 22, 2022 #5418 Share Posted May 22, 2022 It's been quite the busy week for me; looking forward to kicking back and relaxing today. I took DS out last night for his 30th birthday and he helped with a few little things around the condo. I also ran a bunch of errands yesterday including picking up a box of stuff from the old house that the new owners had found (left on top shelf of linen closet) that included some old photos I'd definitely have been sorry to lose. And I took some of my antique prints to be re-framed to fit better in the new place.... So...In Search of Italy, in London? Very curious to watch this one. Too bad it wasn't shown before my recent London stay. 😕

Rare Lois R Posted May 23, 2022 #5421 Share Posted May 23, 2022 Good morning😃 Searching for Italy was soooooooo good last night! Stanley was in his home city of London and I learned a lot. I never knew how many Italians had immigrated to London. I LOVED that restaurant with the MOM'S.......looked like so much fun😃 and the Welsh family too.....that segment was great. And those little dumplings looked DELICIOUS too!

I loved "the Mammas" too -- what a great concept. I want to visit that Mayfair Mercato -- looks like a similar idea to the Mercato in Florence. And I've walked by that Roman wall so many times -- never knew to look for arugula there. 🤣
purduemom1 Posted May 25, 2022 #5423 Share Posted May 25, 2022 Dang! I missed it again!! Had it all planned and even watched earlier episodes on Saturday. It all fell apart when I got a phone call from a family member that I needed to take care of. Hot temps tomorrow so just hoping that the power stays on..PG&E does have its problems in that department. Not related to the power “shut offs” that happen in areas prone to wildfires. Rare cruisemom42 Posted May 25, 2022 #5424 Share Posted May 25, 2022 I'm feeling a bit numbed this morning by the latest horrific school shooting in Texas. It's so terrible to think how young those kids were. I just cannot imagine being a parent and hearing such news about my child. I remember DS was just a toddler when the Columbine shooting happened, I believe that was the first "major" school shooting. I was shocked and then filled with dread, and things have only gotten worse. Prayers to all the families and to the community.
