kicia Posted March 19, 2020 #2 Share Posted March 19, 2020 Just saw that. Kudos to Carnival for stepping up in this crisis.
mafig Posted March 19, 2020 #3 Share Posted March 19, 2020 I heard that. Good for him. President Trump said "Carnival" several times. 👍👍

Man, I missed this. Just got home after foraging for hand sanitizer. I'm listening right now.
TNcruising02 Posted March 19, 2020 #6 Share Posted March 19, 2020 Yes, a little bit of positive news. Carnival stepping up with an offer to assist and later president Trump stating that the cruise lines will be included in industries getting assistance.

flyguyjake Posted March 19, 2020 #9 Share Posted March 19, 2020 I'm sure it's a way to generate revenue, but after the Diamond & Grand I cannot imagine people would feel comfortable going back on a ship during these times with the potential of an on-ship outbreak. No thanks.

I'm sure we need doctors right now. They are going to use our naval medical ships for non-coronavirus related treatments. I would hope to God they test anyone before they get on a ship. Staff included and check temperatures daily. Edited March 19, 2020 by flyguyjake
Rare shof515 Posted March 19, 2020 #12 Share Posted March 19, 2020 if this happens, then how will carnival resume cruising in the middle of April?
drsel Posted March 19, 2020 #13 Share Posted March 19, 2020 Cruising in the middle of April is quite unlikely

It's the only way it could work. And what a smart move on Micky's part. It would provide desperately needed income to an otherwise empty ship.
flyguyjake Posted March 19, 2020 #15 Share Posted March 19, 2020 It certainly wouldn't be every ship. Only a few that can stay at port. There's only so many docks available. So "if" cruising could resume, then only certain sailings would be effected.

Highly unlikely anyone will be sailing April 10th or even through the beginning of May. That's just my guess.

bury me at sea Posted March 19, 2020 #22 Share Posted March 19, 2020 If I remember correctly Carnival chartered ships to the government and ported them in New Orleans post Katrina. They housed many many people who were left homeless after the hurricane.

Our very own Cruise Critic has the story here: https://www.cruisecritic.com/news/news.cfm?ID=1389 Two ships were ported in Galveston and one in Mobile. Acheavacci Posted March 19, 2020 #24 Share Posted March 19, 2020 I applaud Carnival for helping. I feel that this pause in cruising is going to last a lot longer than first announced. My workplace daily meeting (now remotely) said we are anticipating 30 days of 25% workplace workforce in NYS if rate of infected does not flatten.
Purvis1231 Posted March 19, 2020 #25 Share Posted March 19, 2020 Cruising is over for now. Maybe for a long time.
