P&O Cruisers - What are things like where YOU are?

Good morning everyone, it seems to be a bit warmer outside this morning but I'm not planning to go anywhere today  I just want a rest.

I have already had a phone call from DH's younger sister.  She wanted me to call my niece's husband and ask him to go to her son's flat today to fix the cistern that is leaking in his toilet.  I told her no because he is busy with his children at weekends since my niece passed away.  DH is furious and has told her to look in yellow pages for a plumber and not to ask us to use our connections.

No iced up windscreen on the car on the this morning so must be warmer than yesterday. Will spend some of the day ensuring there is nothing loose in the garden given the weather due tomorrow with up to 50mph gusts forecast.

And now that the batteries have finally run out, take down the Christmas lights which have been up for 6 weeks.

Kids!!! Well my daughter suggested a meet up for Sunday Lunch somewhere,  us, her and her OH, the grandchildren and their partners, eight  in total.  It was a bit late to book and also it is getting a bit of a bill for eight of us so I told her there was a nice Cafe at £$  *&*&* Road (my house).

They said that would have been nice but felt  me being partially disabled that it might be too much for me to cope with!!!😏   Well that was like a red rag to a bull and adrenaline clicked in , of course I would cope.  Even if on my hands and knees  (but I didn't tell them that)

What I had forgotten was we are going away for a few days so preparing for that, and must clear everything away afterwards.  We have a compromise, I cook etc.  Two come early to carry tables and lay up and carry hot dishes to and from  the kitchen (which I can't do).  With my daughter helping it will be chaos, and I am really looking forward to it.

White Rhino

There were  less than 100 left  in the world and very close to extinction not long ago

Most that are left today have had to have their horns removed sadly to deter poachers trying to kill them

But there's one place (at least) they still exist with their horns intact. And we were there today. Never imagining we would actually find one of them.

This morning we turned a corner following some tracks looking for lions and all of a sudden from nowhere we looked up and we were literally head on facing a white rhino

Spine tingling coming face to face with this magnificent creature

My new favourite animal.

I actually felt honored to be in its presence

We've just had the most amazing 24 hrs we will never ever forget at the most incredible Safari Lodge in South Africa. Absolutely magical from start to finish.IMG-20240120-WA0006.thumb.jpg.c7eb3384c05a862b5c417a7e1c65b3bc.jpg

For Avril and the girls...  Help!!!!!😂

I used to sort out events and things when I was in Ladies Circle many years ago, but seem to be doubting myself now.

Can I prepare potatoes and other veg and put in water in saucepans tonight at my leisure?

Then I can open the Prosecco and wallow in the morning?🙃

ps  the above post makes my problem look miniscule

Yes you can, depending on the vegetables. Root vegetables are fine in water overnight, but leafy veg can be prepared and covered with a lid or plate. Don't forget to drain and rinse well any that have been left in water overnight.

Good luck and try to ignore all waving red rags🐮.

Good afternoon everyone, hope you are all ok.

It’s a busy weekend here, I collected four grandchildren yesterday, they are sleeping for two nights. They are age 15, 13, 11 & 6. The three eldest are boys and they just eat so much!! I have just had to do another Tesco shop. My daughter and her hubby are coming over tomorrow to collect them and she is going to cook for us.

Have a nice day everyone

My wife was able to shoot a video after we all recovered from the shock of our vehicle unexpectedly coming face to face with the white rhino

There was just my wife and I and the guide on the vehicle

It was spine tingling for sure

I will try and load it later

We never found lions or leopards but this will live in the memory forever

It was such a shock to just drive into where the white rhino was

We did 2 game drives. One yesterday early evening and one early this morning. Both absolutely magical.

Yesterday we stumbled into a herd of over 200 elephants!! Which was incredible but also quite scary as we literally ended up surrounded by them. The noises they were making was like Jurassic Park!!

My wife was too scared to even try to video that. Especially after the guide had said elephants are the most dangerous animals as they can tip the vehicle and we try not to let them get behind us!

Soon after we were literally surrounded by them !! They just appeared from nowhere.

Luckily they weren't bothered by us at all and moved on

The guide said on many days they never see a single elephant

And somehow yesterday - 200 arrived at once!!

I often prepare vegetables the night before if I know that I am going to be pushed for time the next day.  So long as they are left  in cold water they are fine.

Enjoy the Prosecco.

This was our room from the outside. By far the most special place we have ever stayed anywhere

It had it's own infinity pool. But we were just there one night from the cruise and literally had no time to use it.

We were up at 4.15am this morning for our game drive

The infinity pool and balcony overlooked a river where the animals would normally cross

But there had been freak rain the day before so the river was too high for animals to attempt to cross whilst we were there

Would love to go back there one day

They aren't allowed to say how many white rhino are in the park now but this park has helped them recover numbers

They have to have security on patrol all the time due to poachers

But sadly because this is the park that still keeps the horns on the white rhino they had 200 white rhino killed by poachers there in 2023 !!

Driven by demand for the horns in China

It's 100,000 hectares and the animals are free to roam anywhere within it

And a large part is called the wilderness where safaris are forbidden to go and where the animals are supposed to flourish without human intervention

But that's why there's no guarantee to see any animals as they can go in and out of the wilderness area as they please

And clearly too big an area to prevent the poachers getting in and out

Another lovely sunny day here (23-25oC), more of a breeze today especially along the prom. We have found a cracking cafe (Gala Cafe) in the next village along (La Guirra) who have the most amazing chocolate cake and excellent coffee. There is a small shopping complex there which has a Eurospar, they have an amazing meat, fish and cheese counter stretching the length of the shop, everything is cut to your requirement so we have purchased a couple of cheeses, pate and cold meats which we are having this evening to be washed down with a Rioja for me and a Sauvignon blanc for Mrs YP. It was market day in town so we had a look this morning.

We must have Hoopoes nesting near by as we have seen them several times in front of our apartment hunting for grubs in the soil, a very pretty bird. There are quite a lot of ring necked doves around which I assume are the Spanish equivalent of Wood pigeons.
