Decor on Carnival Magic

We were booked on the Radiance transatlantic sailing in June which has inevitably been cancelled. Looking for a cruise in 2021 we see that Magic is scheduled for a transatlantic in May.

We've looked at the photos in the Cruise Critic review of the ship and the interiors look very dark. The design theme on board looks a bit weird, like the atrium came from the set off a scary movie or theme park ride. All dark green with bloodshot eyes stirring down at everyone.

The itinerary appeals but the decor of the ship is off putting. Can anyone who's sailed on Magic share their thoughts please.

Thanks

The Magic is probably my favorite ship but oddly I cannot remember décor.  I find their T-Pool in the Spa amazing and Magic and Dream are the ones I purchase the Spa Pass for because of it.

I wouldn't hesitate on the Magic but I am sure you will receive many comments.

The Magic is the newest Carnival ship I have sailed, and I found the decor rather blah.  Not vibrant or memorable like the older ships.  Atrium:

As we don't really pick a ship for it's decor, I can honestly say that Magic was a great ship when we sailed on her in January.  We were actually booked to be on her again yesterday, but of course that was cancelled.  The decor did not bother me in the least.  If the itinerary appeals to you, I would bypass the fact that the decor may not be to your liking.

I wouldn't want the Magic's interior decorator in my home.  On the other hand I wouldn't want the Magic to look like my home.

It's a fun ship.  It's named Carnival.  The decor is fun and sometimes funny.  I laughed daily at the eyeballs in the ceiling.  My grandkids thought they were palm trees.  We got a big kick out of them every evening entering the dining room.

Magic is a fine ship.  Freedom is my favorite but I would sail on the Magic again if she ever comes back to Galveston.

Just back almost 3 weeks. We have sailed the Miracle and the Vista. I consider these to be one end of decor to another. Honestly, I enjoy the quirky decor and found the Vista to be a little blah. My husband like the modern feel of the Vista.

All in the eye of the beholder.

I like the decor of the ships designed by Joe Farcus. Magic is the last ship he designed, which is the last Carnival ship with any character in my opinion. I find the decor on Breeze, Vista and Horizon boring. I assume Panorama is the same way, but I haven’t cruised on that ship yet.

Thanks for the opinions folks. My last couple of Carnival cruises have been on Vista and Horizon, which I really liked as they are bright, light and modern.

I'm not sure I want to spend 5 consecutive sea days on Magic, which I would be on a transatlantic sailing. I'll not commit to booking just yet, more thinking time required.

Farcus worked on the Breeze as well. Obviously not the whole thing, but he did a partial design in some areas to assist with it.

Magic was okay — nothing special. At the time, I liked it. Now, the design doesn’t meet preferences and tastes. The only thing I vividly remember from my cruise on the Magic regarding its decor are the lights and mirrors. Nearly every single scone light and mirror on our cruise needed to be replaced due to vandalism and other factors causing damage. Not sure how frequently it happened but it was extremely common during our cruise on its inaugural transatlantic.

He did very limited work on Breeze (the theater and casino if I recall correctly), which is not much considering the size of the ship. There is a noticeable difference between the decor of Magic and earlier ships compared to Breeze and newer ships. There is no right or wrong here, just personal taste. I personally liked how the ships designed by Farcus had a consistent theme thru out the entire ship. On the older ships you definitely knew what ship you were on just looking at the decor. The newer ships all look to similar to me, although I realize I am in the minority liking the older, tackier ships.

I am one who also always enjoyed the Farcus decors.  I know that nowadays it is not a popular design or choice of the younger generation, but I have enjoyed them all, except one.  The Valor did not appeal to me.  It was a great cruise, but just somehow did not appeal decor wise.  I am also not a person who needs decor to make my experience, just something that I notice or observe.  I have not been on any Carnival ship newer than Conquest class, but have to say that from photos I have seen here on reviews or elsewhere, the Dream and the Magic, do appeal in that sense.  The Breeze not so much, and the newer ships are just ok.  Not bad, but just not something memorable.  This just me though.  I am someone who does very much like color, eclectic, and glitz. Not a fan of muted, brown and beiges. Again just me.  But have to say, that I would love to sail Magic some day, not just because of  the decor.

Personally for us. I think because we have cruised so many years and are of the older generation. We love the older ships with beautiful nautical decor. It just fits and is so beautiful to look at. Warm feeling and so comfortable. All the newer ships are very nice but we get a cold feeling on them. All the bright work. Like fancy hotels instead of a SHIP. I know many love the new ships and the way they look. One that turned us off completely and we hated the ship the Celebrity Edge. A big black horse on the upper deck and glass table tops being held up by pigs. It is to be a ship not a farm thank you. There was nothing nautical at all about it. Again that is us and it was voted the best. So who are we to say. Just getting old I guess.
