The One Question Cruise Lines Need to Answer to Bring Back Bookings!

Recommended Posts

There is one question above all you find is not answered on Cruise websites, which if answered would help Cruise lines bring back bookings rocket fast! And that is:

what new process have you worked out with US Authorities so the entire ship doesn’t get quarantined upon return to its home port because of COVID-19?

A major issue I and many others have is, that very few, if any people can afford to be out of work 14 or more days on top of their vacation time and that is keeping a lot of people from taking a risk and going on a cruise and possibly loosing their jobs over a vacation. Passengers cannot be stuck in limbo because one person gets sick and then when you return to home port it causes the ship to not be allowed to disembark passengers! The odds of one person out of 5,000 (crew and passengers) getting some type of flu like symptoms COVID-19 or not is almost certain and If cruise lines cannot work out a new protocol with CDC and Local US authorities they will not recover anytime soon.

If they haven’t ready done so they need to get on this and figure it out before they resume cruising in May or June...passengers need certainty that they can go on cruise without the worry they won’t be able to get back home once Cruise is over. Thoughts?

My thought would be that in these unprecedented times, there is NO certainty. Not now nor in the near future. This is a pandemic that some take seriously and isolate, practise social distancing etc. and unfortunately, others that do not. Then there are the unknowns, those who are asymptomatic and feel great about being out and about and those that show symptoms, haven't been tested, are still out and about and just don't care

I have strong doubts that we will be leaving our homes in May, much less boarding a cruise ship.

True I don’t see them starting in may either, but either way the question should be resolved for the future I know every pandemic will be different but if every time a bug comes out of some part of the world this happens the travel industry will never recover.

I find it interesting they take this action with cruise lines but yet they let anyone board a plane spread it around on that flying tube for a few hours, land two hours later and all those plane passengers Deborah and become new vectors of the disease all over the country! Makes no sense you either lock planes and ships down or neither. But I understand I’m not a dr so maybe I’m wrong in my thinking.

Most passengers who board a plane take their seat and stay there for the duration of the flight.  They are not moving around the cabin the way people do on a cruise ship. Most domestic flights only last a few hours, where as most cruises are a week or more.  The airline can disinfect in between flights.  Passengers on planes are not eating at self serve buffets.  Air travel is more of a neccessity than cruise travel (which is entirely done for leisure purposes).

I can definitely understand why cruises are grounded but planes are not.

Good points although I would highly dispute airlines ever “disinfect’ anything I’ve never gotten sick on a cruise...on a plane though, very often.

I don’t see cruises starting again until there is a vaccine in place and that you can prove you have had the vaccine or the virus and cannot be contagious again. Many workplaces, including mine and my daughter’s, put in place a 14 quarantine period that employees must wait before returning to work if they take a cruise or visit a foreign country. These rules were put in place a few weeks before the travel bans began, but I expect these to stay in place until a vaccine is available. Most people will not be willing or able to take an additional 14 days off work after their travel.

I've seen numerous pictures since this virus outbreak of planes being disinected.  I'm the opposite - I've never gotten sick on a plane but have on a cruise.

My point is that air travel is far more of a necessity compared to cruise travel.  Hence why planes are operating and cruises are not.

I've said airlines should be shut down. And dart here, with all their germs surfaces

Politicians need airlines not cruises. Dart is money to dallas so its allowed.

Cruise lines need to answer how they are going to keep their ships clean.  I believe one step would be a huge improvement... serve people at the buffets rather than having cruisers serve themselves with shared tongs.  Those are the grossest item on the ship, and elevator buttons probably a distant 2nd place.

I'd put the hot tubs over buffet for grossest item 🙂 And yet I love both. Not too worried about elevator buttons as I don't have the patience to wait for an elevator, and the stairs help with too many trips to the buffet.

What is dart?

Dart is the name of dallas mass traffic

Makes me mad who is open and who isnt. It has nothing to do with virus spread. My cpa cant open and do my taxes, but the liquor stores are open and dry cleaners. Which has more traffic? My cpa can work from home.

Yet my cousins kid had to go to georgia for some convention type thing, she is essential, she works for chewy. If alcoholics dont get their liquor they will take up hospital beds. I can get my lawn mowed and if I had a pool get it cleaned, just cant get my taxes done or stuff like that.

I got a know it all cousin who is paid by the hour as a consultant, hes essential computer work. He is very big on keeping others closed down who can also work from home. It's the guys working and getting paid big money who decide who is essential.

My dad fell and we cant go to ER for xrays (dont dare). The walk in clinics here dont take seniors.

Something has to give. We all worry one of my parents needs medical attention.

One thing at a time. I think cruises will be one of the last things to reopen. Other stuff more important.

Understood.  I don't doubt that mass transit is a potential source for spreading the virus, but the problem with shutting down mass transit is that it is the only way for some people to get to work.  And there are certainly some vital businesses that need to have all of their employees available to work (groceries, food warehouses, utility companies, telecommunications, etc.).

Our Governor in Michigan is talking about a 70 day extension of Stay at Home beginning April 13.  At this rate there won't be any small businesses left.
