Do you Clean or wipe down things in your cabin upon arrival

Likewise. I've never done any of those things you quoted, never been sick on a ship once I'm glad to say. I assume that person also walks around in a perspex bubble too and never eats in the buffet, sits within yards of anyone else or uses any of the public restrooms - that is if they have the time to walk around with all the sanitising and cleaning they're doing - oh and the smelling of drinks 😄. I would have thought this may well be a hoax but apparently not.

yeah of course, wifi, tv, balcony, food, (outside of walking on the promenade deck for about 3 hours each day for exercise), what else could you possibly need?   yeah of course just leave some cleaning supplies in the bathroom, I'll take care of it no big deal, To each their own

You've just described there the exact scenario for all those put into isolation on the Diamond Princess - except they were lucky to get half an hour on deck a day - and yet hundreds of them still caught the virus many many days after they were isolated. Just saying.....

I don't know if it's because I have a good immune system or I'm just extremely lucky but I can't remember the last time I was sick at home and I have never been sick on a cruise. I will say that I don't eat in port unless it's a chain establishment and I don't eat street meat in the city.  I guess that's my phobia. If I had to think about not touching common surfaces and not touching my face I would go insane. I don't know how people can control involuntary motion without having their hands constantly in their pockets.  How are these germaphobes handing out the extra tips or removing tips and tipping in cash?  Money circulates around the world and has been used when tipping strippers and rolled up to snort cocaine. Now that straws are taboo it's probably used for that even more.  I would be more worried about where the money in my wallet has been than how many people pressed an elevator button or who slept on the pillow last.  Where are all of the studies or reports claiming elevator buttons and pillows have been the cause of Noro, influenza or any other virus?

Sounds like what I have been doing at home for the past 2 months. If I have to do that on vacation I would rather stay in the comfort of my own home and not be confined to 182 sf room with a balcony.  For me quarantine is more of an issue than getting sick which is why I'm not even looking at cruises until cruising actually starts up.

Actually as far as paper money goes cruises are pretty safe as  most everything is put on your seapass card. You don't have to tip extra with cash. You can always add the extra tip to your account.

I wipe down the room once when we first board but not again. The only people in your room after boarding are the room stewart and you. You are way more likely to pick something up on the rest of the ship.

If you are a true germaphobe then cruising is not the vacation for you😊

Who's to know whether the precautions I take, or you don't take, are what keep us healthy?  I'm fully aware that what I do may, or may not, keep viruses from me.  All I DO know is that it makes me feel better about potential harm.  If you don't need to do that, then that's great!  More wipes for me!  Having worked in many hospitals, I just can't help it.  😎

I got a chuckle about the pillow conversation. Back in the day before we had kids (now toddler and infant) and had some spare time ......vacation (especially cruise vacation) pillows made great apparatuses for improved angling.  Pretty much everyone I know uses them at times for the same purpose. 

 

Now our kids just throw up on them. Lots of throw up everywhere on our last cruise this past Feb. We don't wipe things down beforehand (kids need to be exposed to germs) but the people after us may want to do a good hosedown.

I had a conversation with our cabin steward once about a "lifestyle" cruise that happened on our ship 2 weeks prior to our sailing. That deserves it's own thread though really.

Oh, we had a GREAT thread here about that... maybe four or five years ago?  

I think it got started b/c people were complaining about all the kids on cruises, and someone else mentioned that they took swingers cruises even though they aren't in that lifestyle themselves -- just because they are automatically child-free.  

Man, that was entertaining... I wonder if that thread is still around?

Have never even considered wiping down the room. I can live my life and assume things will probably be okay, or I can be afraid of every T.V. remote or buffet utensil. I'm 58, I'm never sick...going to go with optimism.

Do a basic wipe down, remote, phone etc, then that’s it,  also do this in hotel rooms and on planes, wipe screen and tray table.

i travel (until this year) 3 or 4 times a year mostly international to catch cruises.

Over 30 cruises and only been sick once, bronchitis when everyone else was very ill with same or pneumonia.  8 day cruise to South Pacific, rained and blew a gale every day.

Be sensible but not paranoid.

Well clearly they aren't following the rules.  I've seen them use the same dirty rag in cabin after cabin.

While I do wipe down a few things and carry packaged individual wipes in my purse with me, I find my focus is sanitizing my seating area on the plane.  Flight turnover is half an hour.  No way your area is sanitized.  We fly first class to have our own row as well.  On the ship, frequent hand washing and some targeted sanitizing works...remote, door handles,  switches etc.
