Mr Google suggests it's a Norwegian name, which is a move away from their normal Scottish names.

I explained the link in a post just before yours.  A family name and the family are Norwegian.  They have a long shipping history as well, which they often use for publicity.

I posted a video of Fred jnr's announcement on the Fred boards, which was filmed in the family's original home village.   Fred jnr runs the cruise arm of the business, which is a small part of it, and now lives in Tenerife.  Fred snr still lives in Scotland I think, and has done for a long time.

So two Carnival ships are leaving the fleet (Fantasy & Inspiration) and two are going into cold layup (Imagination & Fascination).

How many is that gone now out of the 13 (or is it 19 now?)?

Also announced is that Oceana has been sold to Greek ferry operator Sea Jets, she will be named "Queen Of The Oceans"

Wow.

The Carnival news was only announced earlier today and as far as I’m aware the Oceana news was announced last night? Am I missing something?

Carnival Fantasy was widely reported that she was in Izmir, Turkey ready to be broken up on July 13th and officially released on 233rd July and Oceana being renamed was mentioned on here yesterday.

And the sale of Oceana was announced a couple of weeks ago.

I’m aware I was talking in this thread about it, the recent news is just of the name and confirmation of new operator - and the fact she was officially handed over yesterday
