Carnival cancelled until Sept 30, 2020

I am also booked in October, for a 6-night sailing.  Check available cruises for the month of October; you will find that the only available cruises are 3-5 nights, nothing longer.  We are making alternate plans for when/if longer sailings in October are cancelled.  In limbo longer!

I booked our cruise a year ago. It's an 8-day Southern cruise. I understand about the 3-5 day cruises being all that's left to choose from.

I do price checks on all my cruises literally every morning.  There was plenty of availability on the Breeze for October 4 right up until a few days ago, when somebody else posted that all longer sailings in October had disappeared.  I hope they are closed due to capacity already being reached, but I find it highly unlikely that all cruises over 5 nights hit that point simultaneously.  My fear is that Carnival plans to start with shorter cruises and is still deciding what to do about the longer ones.

I don't mean to be argumentative, but how will September 30th be different from today, in terms of what is causing the cancellations?  I suspect they will cancel for the rest of the year in August.

I get the gist of your question. I THINK what will change by Sept 30th is that by then a set of guidelines will have been agreed to by the cruise companies, the CDC and the various government agencies (countries, ports, etc.) that will allow the cruise industry to sail again despite the presence of the corona virus. If by then certain air filters are installed and there are plans for masks, social distancing etc that seem feasible, enforceable and not too miserable for the cruisers, then we'll be able to go. We're probably also waiting on reliable, quick testing and an agreed to plan on what to do should passengers get sick while aboard. All of this requires a lot of parties coming together and agreeing on things, signing off and probably drawing up insurance arrangements and passenger waivers (us signing on that we are aware of risks). Once ALL those things are done, then we will sail. My guess is that Carnival has a reasonable expectation that it can all be nailed down by 9/30 and that it definitely won't be ready before then. So that's what I, in my humble opinion think will change. And I'm hopeful that it can be done. Good luck to us all!

Of course this new/updated announcement was clearly & certainly INEVITABLE.

People may be ready to cruise, however THE VIRUS IS NOT READY FOR THEM TO DO SO...

😷

The delay in cruising is due to the CDC's stonewalling the release of the health and safety standards that the cruise lines must meet. Not sure why the CDC seems to be so prejudiced against the cruise industries. The CDC is allowing airlines, restaurants,  and amusement parks, etc open up using locally created rules, but banning cruising until the CDC gets around to releasing the rules the cruise lines have to follow. Not fair...

Its my birthday.  I do not like my present.  😞  I kind of want to take my money and buy a small pontoon boat.  Then I remember Id only tool around the same lake and I'd get bored.  I guess if I cancel at this moment, I'll lose my air fare if I cancel, or they'll give me future credit also.

Sigh, this is going to be a huge mess.  My cruise was booked with 4 different credit cards, from 3 different people.

More importantly hubby just is not comfortable cruising any time soon.  I already have way much cruise credits in the limbo, not sure when they will all materialize.  Will just get refund this time.

It's clear no one is cruising until there is a vaccine. We had the summer to get it under control, well that's not going to happen. Once Fall hits and its back to flu and cold season, its game over.

Things are not going to magically get better after 90 days.

A question for those of you who've already experienced the CCL cancel/re-book process . . .

Approximately how long did it take (from the day of official announcement) until you received your e-mail from Carnival?  I realize there are quite a few being sent out in this newest wave of cancellations, so I shouldn't be surprised that mine has still not shown up.  I already know the option I'm going to choose, and have researched the replacement for this one, but I assume the embedded link in the e-mail is the only way to make that happen.

Thanks for any response from those who also didn't get a same-day message in the past, or are still awaiting this one.  (It could still arrive later today.  Yes, I did check junk mail file)

Sure it’s fair. What happens if there is an outbreak on the ship?  Who will provide the care ?  In the case of the crew, who is going to pay for the hospital treatment even if their is enough space?  Are we going to have to ration ICU beds?   The cruiselines couldn’t contain Norovirus from one cruise to the next What makes you think COVID will be any better?  I don’t think the cruise lines can be trusted to even report accurately.  Too bad for them. The executives made a ton of money on the backs of the poor crew.  They still haven’t gotten all the crew home yet....the cruise lines deserve what they get and then some.

We got our official announcement today. We've had 3 cruises canceled recently but this is the earliest we've been notified. I think we will  rebook something next year. Not sure how American Aiines will handle this one. They've moved this booking once already for us. We talked about a late spring rebook, try to let winter get past us. We currently still have a booking on the Horizon for September 2021.

Our September cruise was our second cancellation after the one in March. I thought about taking the refund this time, but with it possibly taking up to 90 days I decided to let it ride. Since we've got plenty of time to use the FCC I'll just wait until cruising opens back up. If they start back in October I'll try and book for November or December. If not, then maybe next summer.

With the reduction of administrative staff in CCL Headquarters, they can only process cancellations through September. As soon as this volume is processed, the 4th quarter cruises will be cancelled. They need the 4th quarter cruises to pay in full before cancellation. The cancellation process is all about cash flow. When will the public catch on? The CDC cancels cruises through July 24 and CCL was booking cruises with June departures (back in May). People are still giving CCL money and they will continue to take it.

trophy post! You called it right. Thanks for speaking an unpopular truth.

Now wait for the inevitable chorus of 'basher!' and 'Debbie Downer' and every other witlessly snarky, rude "retort" that the cheerleaders can repeat yet again.

I agree. A vaccine will not be available until 2021.  I do not see much on the news now about a vaccine. Ports such as Aruba with low Covid19 cases are not going to let 3000 people off a ship into their country. They will not not let US citizen fly there now. I booked a cruise before covid19 to the ABC islands. Final payment due 7/19. Why not cancel and let me out of the final payment? No, they need the cash. They will cancel after the final payments. They are giving us false hope to reduce the draw on their line of credit.

I believe this, it makes sense. I'm one of the ones waiting on a cancellation for October. I hate being held up because I'd like to make other plans but it is what it is.

I have a sinking feelin (no pun intended) that my October 10 BTB cruise on the Breeze will be cancelled.  This was a rebook from the cancelled Mardi Gras.  Need a spreadsheet to keep track of credits, OBS's and pricing changes!  My TA said that all credits and OBC's will carry over to my next booking if Carnival cancels and not me.  Hope that is true as my OBC total right now is a bit over $600.  But if I read the posts correctly, I may lose some of the original OBC.

What a mess....

We have 7 rooms booked on Mardi Gras for Dec 12th. Hopefully this doesn't get canceled too

If the ship is ready on time, I 'm worried about our Feb 6th 2021 sailing.
