Bookings are up - prices to rise

Who would book a cruise without knowing the final details if  someone gets the virus  while on the ship?

Is the CDC going to quarantine the ship for month's? Way to risky for me to take a cruise.

Don't forget there are always two sides to the price equation.  Demand is one, and supply is the other.  I'd be pretty surprised if RCI is sailing 26 ships in 2021.

Best prices I ever received for cruises were in 2008-2009.  Remember those financial times?  We were also getting very large Michigan resident discounts as the car companies were facing bankruptcy.   And there were no mega ships then, just "normal" sized ships.

what were the prices and great deals that you remember?
How much was the cost per night? Did it drop below $30 per person per night?

I don't really remember.  I do remember putting down deposits and then having at least 2 price drops before final payments were due.  I also remember pointing it out on the roll calls and getting some "thank you" drinks from others who took advantage of the drops when I made mention of them.

I have never been on Carnival and have not been following them, but at this time I would never book anything with a non-refundable deposit. That goes for any cruise line.

Idk about princess, I'm down to 1 on carnival, $600 obc to rebook, $100 to book early saver, non refundable deposit, $100 stockholders obv. $800 obc is a big inducement. 

 

I asked for a refund last cancellation, all that obc is driving carnival prices higher than I'd pay without covid. I wish I'd booked a year later, only moved it to oct 2020. I've been overly optimistic it seems. Back in may seemed like october was a long ways off. Carnival and probably princess with stackable obc, some have tons. If your fcc is more than new cruise, up to $500 can be stacked with the other obc, and some got free obc from casino. 

 

I can see the temptation to book. Right now I have 5 rcl and 1 ccl booked.

I frequently do price checks on our booked cruises.  I did today and one our  b2b we have booked in january on rhapsody and both legs are lower by $250 +/-  .   Guess I'll call tomorrow and see about reprice for both of them.

So I read your post and said ok, tried to check and I never can find prices that match what my TA booked. At least 2 I cant even find the category I'm booked in. Rcl prices remain a mystery. I am happy with the prices my TA booked but for the most part cant duplicate them. 

 

Carnival is so easy, but I prefer rcl. Doesnt help I'm booking solo and rcl runs most sales for 60% off 2nd pax. If I see another 30% off all pax then I'll try. 2 lift and shifts no pt in trying, I had a 2d, downgraded to 4d to get that corner aft facing after the lift and shift, and after the move from allure to liberty. 

 

Some times it's just good to be happy with what I got and sure hoping that it goes.

I frequently do price checks on our booked cruises.  I did today and one our  b2b we have booked in january on rhapsody and both legs are lower by $250 +/-  .   Guess I'll call tomorrow and see about reprice for both of them. 

Already 4 price drops since 15 April 2020 on the carnival Cruises I am looking at in 2021.
They are dirt cheap now, but all the cabins are still available.
So I am still waiting

That's the elephant in the room that isn't getting much discussion here.  Everyone's talking about "social distancing" etc when cruising starts, but no ship is sailing until there is a definitive plan for dealing with a positive covid test on a ship.

They have a plan.
A covid positive patient will be isolated and treated in a special isolation cabin near the medical centre.
These isolation wards are not accessible to any other passenger.

Would not want to be on a ship where even one  passenger has covid. That one positive passenger started the spread to who knows how many more people. Then the whole ship will be quartanteed for who knows how long. That's not an idea of a vacation for me.

Agreed. I am sure many others share your view point.

That is exactly why I expect that demand will be very low.

Hence, most cruise prices are expected to fall every week possibly.

I think we were paying $600/person for a balcony cabin on a 7 night  Princess cruises (that was back in the day that we were skipping between cruise lines).  I remember this number because it matched the price I paid for an inside cabin on Carnival's Carnivale ship in 1982, and that was with 3 other just graduated High School seniors (it was a senior class cruise)

Our cruise ws cancelled....turned around and booked (New booking) for a cruise in 2021.

I wonder how many new bookings are first time cruisers, not someone who had. cruise cancelled.

 

Marketing Hype...bookings are up..things are looking good!
