Some lines may accept higher rates of missed calls due to weather conditions such as wind.  Some lines may avoid purposely creating itineraries for a ship that will result in higher rates of missed calls.

Virgin has one ship (so far) and Cuba was supposed to be a jewel in their route offerings so they may have been willing to accept more potential missed calls due to wind compared to what Royal may like to accept for a given ship while they had smaller ships in the fleet.

If Royal loses Empress and Majesty AND Cuba reopens perhaps Royal would be more willing to accept higher rates of potential missed calls there too for a different class of ship.

To your point about azipod and power, I recall being on Voyager class ship on a windy day.  We made it into Costa Maya like a champ and then watched two older Carnival ships approach and give up, aborting their calls.  They were not azipod ships.  On another cruise we were held off waiting 30 minutes for an older MSC ship to get docked on a windy day.  Once they finally were secured we popped in on Indy in minutes making it look easy.  We were late to arrive but only because we had to wait for that non-azipod ship to dock.  If I recall from a bridge tour Freedom class can dock with up to 35 knots of cross wind on the ship.  Pretty impressive.

I have watched Mighty Cruise Ships episodes an they show ships docking using azipods  with a  computer generated explanation of the process.  Very impressive.

Goodbye,

As we continue to navigate through this very fluid time together, it’s important that we connect on the latest news and updates. That’s why you’re among the first to learn that, sadly, Empress of the Seas® and Majesty of the Seas® will soon be leaving the Royal Caribbean fleet.

Fan favorites for 30 years, Empress and Majesty of the Seas certainly made their mark on the cruise industry. Empress, launched in 1990, was the first ship specifically designed for short 3- and 4-night itineraries, with her first cruises visiting The Bahamas from Miami. And years later, she wasn’t finished making history. In 2004, Empress became the first cruise ship to sail from Cape Liberty in Bayonne, New Jersey, when we opened our terminal. And in 2017, Empress took the limelight once again as she embarked on Royal Caribbean’s inaugural cruise to Cuba.

Likewise, Majesty captured the hearts of many during her time in our service. She was the third ship to round out the impressive Sovereign Class. More than twice the size of the average cruise ship, Majesty was the largest ship in our fleet when she debuted in 1992. Her adventures began with 7-night Western Caribbean cruises departing Miami.

Through the years, Empress and Majesty have created incredible memories for so many of our guests and crew members. Many of your clients think fondly of these ships, and we know this will be a bittersweet goodbye. Their departure from the Royal Caribbean fleet is a major moment in our brand’s history and was a decision that was not made lightly. However, as our fleet evolves, decisions like these pave the way for the introduction of new and reimagined innovative ships. And if you’re wondering about crew members being impacted by this, rest assured they’ll be transferred to other ships in our fleet where unforgettable vacations will soon continue. As we bid our farewells, we greatly encourage you to share your favorite memories onboard Empress and Majesty on Vicki’s Facebook page!

Should you have clients confirmed on future Empress or Majesty of the Seas sailings, please know that you will be contacted shortly regarding their options.

As always, we thank you for your continued loyalty and support. Your partnership means the world to us!

Stay Safe!

As some few have predicted earlier here in this thread😝

As I have stated in the Majesty thread, we have sailed on her 3b2b in February 2020.

The memories are not favorable due to the company denying us Q& A and suite guests experiencing the "normal" RCI standard.

So all ok here- bye bye and gone

Just a matter of time

First of all, I may have mentioned before, I really like your avatar. Looks a lot like our Oreo.

Looking at an option for Empress, Radiance has a 7 day Anchorage to Vancouver, which we could B2B from Vancouver to LA. Then there is nothing listed for Radiance until October. Radiance is our favorite ship.

That looks exactly what Sparky would look like anytime it snowed.  She loved the winter and would lie outside for hours.

Unfortunately you can't do the ANC to YVR and YVR to LAX as that would be a violation of the PVSA as you do not stop at a distant foreign port
